A Public beta in my opinion is pushing out the game.... I, like some people.. Want to see the game when it's fully done. You guys have been working hard on this update for about 3 in a half years with this update. Some people don't understand this, It isn't being made by an AAA company... There's a small group working on this.. (a very experienced group of people), The Krew Members have lives too.... And they're allowed to take breaks, and it hurts them the most to see people replicating stuff that isn't even supposed to be released to the public yet, Not a month ago.... I was being begged about my work, not only on the message board. but everywhere I went to post updates, And that day I felt that being in a small group making things that people enjoy isn't easy...
Fame is one thing... Greed is another... With the bad stuff out of the way.... Here are some things people can look forward too!

(migrating to the 2.2 build) - YESSIR
(new tracks) - HYPE FOR SURE
(MAJOR SPRITING WOOOOOO) - HATS OFF TO THE SPRITERS!!!!
(MENU... WOOOOOO BABY!!) - THEME SLAPS - MAJOR PROPS TO THE SCRIPTERS
(Don't forget about Tumble, Hitstun, and Tricks!) - Again MAJOR PROPS TO SCRIPTERS AND THE SPRITE ARTIST!!
(Turnaround sprites are good trolling material too can't wait to use it)

saying all these things makes me hype for this update... now matter what time it comes out at...
I'll still appreciate all the work you guys put in it!
and so will a whole lot of people.... =)

I'll hear you out that games can "look complete" but not be fully finished (I could name a handful of games that show that can absolutely be the case), but people have been starved for this game. We can only speculate for so long before the well runs dry and this whole shindig ends up as a cycle. Even a simple 2-course demo would not only satisfy the desires of the community, but would also let people speculate and form opinions through experience and not just a dump of gifs.
At least, on my end, I really don't see a problem with a public beta.

The only real thing of merit on that list is the 2.2 build for the myriad of features it adds but the only ones off the top of my head I can SEE kart using is the sprite rotating and scaling for visual effects.

Tracks would be taken care of by the community in due time (or it would of been if they didn't opt for the bizarre mod embargo) and its even stranger that they would do this when 1.3's release proved this to be true.

Menus? Really? No one plays games for their menus and I can bet money that anyone who sticks with this game for longer than the initial release will just memorize the button strokes that get them into the game the quickest and try their hardest NOT to be looking at the menus.

Tumble, Hitstun and Tricks? From what we've been shown? I'd really rather they not.
Or at least tell us we have the option of turning them on or off.

Turnaround sprites are just a cosmetic. Not something I would even notice unless I was, for some reason, looking at my character and not the player who's now clearly trying to pass me.

Sup guys. Just wondering what the progress on SRB2 Kart v.2 is right now. I'm so excited to try it out when it releases.

I don't either, but isn't it kinda weird to push out a beta when devs aren't sure what bugs are near?
The devs can do it anytime they like honestly. But isn't this a passion project?
It would benefit the community though....

(Second example: The ridiculous extended airtime and recovery fuckery of this gif, which was never intended to be final and is also fixed as of now)

I'm glad this is fixed!

It's a lot easier to complete things to our satisfaction to a degree we're happy handing to people, and handle things via a patch cycle from there (like we did for v1). Public beta would be cool but has no real advantages to us because we can just adjust things after the fact and don't have to deal with all the "Yeah, we know already, this punish state lasts too long" or "yeah, we know already, this item isn't rolling at the right times" or "yeah, we know, this track has an exploit" (the latter ESPECIALLY as something which only gets tuned up during feature freeze) that would come from a public beta.

I'm not sure why you're suggesting we release without a complete set of tracks :V
Anyhow, I addressed the mod embargo thing in another thread. Embargo is a stupid term to use for it, so the confusion people have doesn't surprise me. I'll quote what I said over there, though:

This is not a kart specific thing, the same thing happens for major SRB2 releases. There's a number of reasons behind it, one of the most major ones other than the overhead ones being "let's give the judges some time to actually play the game, too"

Menus? Really? No one plays games for their menus and I can bet money that anyone who sticks with this game for longer than the initial release will just memorize the button strokes that get them into the game the quickest and try their hardest NOT to be looking at the menus.

SRB2's current menus are one of the things that make it really inaccessible to new players. I know, because I've actually brought the game to indie showcases (just for the fun of it), demoed it at an arcade at request of the owner, showed coworkers, and gotten to watch the uninitiated struggle with understanding how to set it up and play it without me directly going "hang on, gimme the controller for a sec" after watching their confusion.

Splitscreen, local play is actually a very important part of a kart racer's playerbase -- easy to forget when most of us play online -- but it's one of the big things that's going to bring in new players and keep them playing long enough to even *get* to the point where they try playing it online.

Turnaround sprites are just a cosmetic. Not something I would even notice unless I was, for some reason, looking at my character and not the player who's now clearly trying to pass me.

Turnaround sprites are conveyance for when someone is eyeing you up for a shot. You will absolutely notice them and play differently because of them.

This is nice. I get to eye my rivals?!

I've never thought of it this way, But I'm glad the team is always looking out for new players, even if it means a whole overhaul. Doing good things :wow:

Is there any chance that when the first major release of Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers comes out, that a Universal Windows Platform version could start development? It'd be seriously incredible for me and my friends and family to be able to play split-screen and online on our Xbox One and Series X/S systems together!

As a side note, I'm so excited for bots, Ecco (my most wanted character) and Heady becoming playable, the new tracks, the Sonic Riders and Kirby's Air Ride-esqe new mechanics, QoL updates, and the single player content! This update is truly shaping up to be something incredible. I can't wait to play it!

EDIT: Also, is there any possibility of 6 player split-screen being added for people with big groups and large TVs? I know this request is a huuuge stretch, and although I am not a programmer, I imagine getting that many players at once to get to run smoothly and changing the player's individual screen's aspect ratios to accompany 6 players could be quite the task. But if for some reason you guys decided adding 6 players was worth your time, you would propel this game into my number one spot for best racing game ever made, and possibly, my favorite multiplayer experience of all-time. I would be forever grateful!

Besides the release date, can it be cross-platform? with XBOX? yes, and no,

YES :

I heard the Series X can actually run PC apps if you have some sort of developers access. (idk, I don't own a xbox.)
Besides XBOX, People actually do have working Switch Ports for SRB2 2.2 and Kart. But involves Homebrew <Homebrew Nerd here lol.
I've ran SRB2 homebrew and it's kinda unstable if I do say so myself. (It randomly crashes sometimes)
The source code could maybe be released with Ring Racers. But idk. That's up to the devs. Maybe someone can make a xbox port out of the source code.

NO :

no, it can't be ran on xbox without the things I stated above unless someone makes a group with a port attatched to it so it can be downloaded.
but again, idk how it works.

dude *sigh* look i keep trying to play online but i cant bc "there is no server check again" it says and i have conection but it still doesnt look!
pls someone tell me how to fix it

I hate ice maps. All of them.
I don't like the "retexturing" they did for Kodachrome Void zone. It just makes the map look unfinished and a bit more... uh... "bland" than the rest.

Entering a custom resolution in kartconfig now causes the game to always open in a default resolution window even when fullscreen setting is enabled.

So, it looks like Koda?

Also, will there be a Offline Skirmish similar to MM8BDM where you can have bots without the playerbot mod by Sonic1983?
