Sonic 1 Badniks

[Open Assets] Sonic 1 Badniks 1

What permissions do you give others to modify and/or maintain your submission?
Modify: YES - Maintain: YES - I give permission for my entire submission to be modified by others or used in their own work. I give permission for my entire submission to be maintained by others as well.
A small badnik pack that contains badniks from Sonic 1, from Green Hill Zone to Scrap Brain Zone, these dumb automated idiots are ready to take down Sonic once again. Also includes sprite edits of some existing classic badniks and stuff, So let's get on to some of them.

First of all of them is the Motobug
srb20000.gif

It chases you when it sees you, pathetic but it works for a basic ground enemy

Next is the Buzz Bomber
srb20002.gif

A flying enemy that will chase you relentlessly, dangerous when in a group of 2 or more, so try not staying in one place when near one. oh and it doesnt like to go up or down so don't place it high enough where most characters can't reach it

The Jaws
srb20009.gif

A shark-like enemy that bounces whenever its out of le water(wait how's it able to do that). acts like a jet jaw but is goofier and a bit more predictable

Roller
srb20010.gif

It's finally in 3D, the roller tries to imitate sonic's signature spindash. As they are the earlier "sonic clones", you can make it spindash to it's demise.

Bat Brain
srb20006.gif

Coming from Glaber's Badnik Pack is the Bat Brain, with a little sprite edit, Original sprites by Monster Lestyn(started the original sprites), Glaber(finished up the original) and Vee(touch-ups on the original)
. Check out Badnik Pack DX by Glaber and MIDIman.

Spikes
srb20011.gif

This hermit crab has spikes on its shell hence its name, dont jump on it obviously.

Burrobot
srb20008.gif

This mole-like badnik burrows underground and waits for their target to pass by. You can still see their noses are poking out so they aren't that smart either.

Thats all I'm gonna show for now
If you're the one to goof around with anything you could find, there's 4 vanilla maps which recieved enemy placement edits so you could see what they do in a stage(I'm bad at this wth). You could also play with some with Chaos mode
Still missing two more badniks, will come soon.

That's all and oh yeah almost forgot

Just noticed this yesterday, and had a blast messing around with them in objectplace! This honestly deserves more attention, because any effort to give this game more Badniks is always appreciated! The Spritework here is good, and the Badniks themselves have the potential to be used very effectively!

There are a few minor tweaks / nitpicks I'd like to see addressed before people start using them in levels.
1. Compared to the original game: Motobug, Spikes, and Blue Newtron all move too slow, and Burrobot moves too fast. I'd suggest swaping the speed values of Motobug and Burrobot, And giving Spikes and Blue Newtron a speed value somewhere in-between that of Motobug and Burrobot
2. I think for the sake of being in a 3 Dimentional Space, Crabmeat should fire his projectiles in a circlular radius as opposes to just 2 directions. This will allow his attack to be just as threatening to the player in 3D as it would be in 2D
3. I was kinda disappointed when I found out Caterkiller doesn't split when hit from the body as opposed to the head. If you end up adding this be sure to have the segments disappear after they bounce for a while, to simulate the effect of the object despawning when it goes off-screen in the original and for the sake of net-games
4. BatBrain's flying animation feels static. I'd recommend adjusting his offsets to give him a similar bounce to the one he has in Sonic 1. Aside from that, I noticed his D3D7 sprite has a stray pixel floating in the upper left-hand corner of the frame! It may seem minor, but trust me when I say people will notice it and be bothered by it if you don't fix it.

All in all, fantastic work on this, and I'm excited to see what more you'll do with this! Perhaps some S2 or SCD Badniks could join in to make this a sort of "Classic Badniks" pack?

Welcome to releases! ...And apologies for taking so long.
While quite a few of these are just reskins of existing enemies, the new ones like Rollers, Buzz Bombers, Spikes, and Burrobots could be used to great effect in custom stages in the future. Really hope this ends up getting used!
