Hello! This 1.8 release is mostly bugfixes and maintenance, since it's been a few years(!) and some stuff broke along the way.
Notably, issues with removing bots in singleplayer should now be fixed - additionally, some efforts were made to work around the
current desync issues and should present a stable netplay experience on 2.2.15. Sorry some of these issues went unaddressed for so long!
While the release is lighter in the feature department, there are a few updates to AI behavior, including the option to
significantly increase the maximum target range via the
ai_seekdist console variable. While this has some performance considerations, it's relatively efficient and allows the bot to behave much more independently of the player. Try it out!
Additionally, there is a new
autobot command intended to streamline using a bot in singleplayer. It will automatically setup both the player and bot according to Player 1 / Player 2 settings (name / skin / color) in the multiplayer menu. This also works in multiplayer.
Unfortunately, there still isn't any (proper) gametype support outside of the usual co-op antics. I've put a lot of thought into how this might look for a "foxBot 2.0" of sorts, including extensibility for mod support (target types, gametype goals, etc.), but I haven't taken the time to really plan it out properly. I have
many ideas for how I'd like to tackle this, and it's something I'd love to do some day, I just can't commit to anything yet. :P
In the meantime, thanks to everyone for their support over the years - this bot (and game!) holds a special place in my heart.
Until next time!
