After all the waiting, X Sonic absolutely delivers on the spectacle and fun, and it's a genuine love letter to an era of Sonic that most tend to forget. That being said, there are definitely some elements I feel could be touched upon.
X Sonic has a far steeper learning curve than most character mods, and that's definitely due to the creativity on display that attempts to mimick how Sonic's abilities are portrayed in the anime. While each ability is definitely a blast to use, I find it really difficult to make them flow together in a way that keeps general movement from feeling very stop-and-go.
We've seen what X Sonic is capable of and no doubt mastering him will be immensely satisfying, but especially with Vanilla SRB2, it can be a bit difficult (but certainly not undoable) for myself and others to reach a particularly satisfying flow with him. Learning curves are not a bad thing by any stretch, but I can't help but feel some elements like wall jumps, the camera on abilities and the overall control could be a tiny bit tighter and more fine-tuned. But as is, he's a difficult character that still has fun merits even on casual runs.
My biggest issues come down to two things: Water and rings. While I think nerfing X Sonic underwater makes perfect sense for how utterly worthless he is when water is involved in the show, it still feels a tad much and makes what already a not-well-liked aspect of Sonic games and triples the problem. Having absolutely no access to the Zip Dash is AGONIZING. I feel it would at least be nice to have a psudeo peel-out effect under the water to at least make getting up to a slightly faster underwater speed better, especially with how much X Sonic emphasizes zero-to-one hundred bursts of speed. Nothing that would make him any faster underwater than vanilla Sonic, but something to at least make his acceleration not mind numbingly slow.
It would also be nice if the elemental/bubble shield gave you access to a more standard Zip Dash, because as it is now with the buff it gives it just doesn't feel right at all.
The other issue, though much smaller, is Super Sonic, and the "other form" to a lesser extent. I completely understand ditching the 50 ring cap with how insanely powerful Super's abilities are, but I feel making the minimum 100, especially when he lacks any kind of lightning shield and eats through rings like a monster when he's using the... ring makes it so even custom levels filled with rings only ever let you see him for less than a minute at the end. Especially when characters like Adventure Sonic keep the flight and then some without any of the major restrictions.
I feel like I would prefer keeping the 50 ring cap, with abilities like the ring Dash and flight taking a more sizeable chunk of rings on the countdown when using them. Just so, if nothing else, base SS can be used more frequently in tandem with X Sonic's regular abilities.
But that's definitely it. Insanely fun character with a lot of absolute love put into it, and I cannot even begin to tell you how much "that" form made me smile like an edgy teenager again, me and my friends absolutely ate it up like jumpfood, absurdly fun. Thanks to you and the team for bringing something truly unique to the community!
