This is absolutely amazing, genuinely the best mod for this game imo, 100% well worth the wait for such an awesome mod, my only gripes with it are how completely useless he is underwater but i guess thats anime accurate lol, and i wish the snap dive was a little bit easier to control cus its so cool, i find that after doing the snap dive i fly off in a direction i didnt want to and find it hard to chain snap dives, and sometimes it doesnt lock on at all despite being close to an enemy

A mighty fine Sonic. Has a steep learning curve, but once you get the hang of him he's really fun to play around with.
He has the fault of only really being good in larger maps, as his moveset tailors to open areas. He is AWFUL underwater, being basically pathetic without an Elemental Shield (which is surprisingly rare in water stages? I havent seen one in Deep Sea at least).
Balance wise, he could be adjusted, but as he is now, he's great.

For being one of the most anticipated mods of all time, this absolutely lives up to the hype. I love every bit of this mod. It feels like you took Sonic right out of Sonic X and put him directly into SRB2. The single player color options are a great touch that allows you to customize your X Sonic to your liking. Super Sonic is absolutely destructive, and without spoiling it for people who read reviews first, going out of your way to search for secrets may net you a little extra something something which is absolutely brutal in the best way.

My only real 'complaint' is the skill floor. It feels really high up, so X Sonic's not exactly a 'pick up and play' character. His delayed jump and speed using the Zip Dash make him really hard to get a proper hang of, although learning to use him is very rewarding in that regard. But, we were kinda warned about that on the mod page, so anyone docking their rating because of it must not have been paying attention (Looking at you, RetroRampage).

All in all, X Sonic 100% lives up to the hype he's been building up. A character that you have to sink time and effort to learn, for sure, but a great character nonetheless that'll net you just as great rewards for your dedication.

I LIKE IT SO MUCH
but deep sea and azure temple is very hard

imagine a sonic mod that's based on sonic x
add devil may cry combos
a fucking dragon ball z combat system
so much attention to detail it's not even comprehendable
and you get this

but i can't give it 5 stars because water levels are now even more awful than before WHY DO NONE OF HIS ABILITIES WORK UNDERWATER I GET IT'S ACCURATE BUT DEEP SEA IS INSUFFERABLE DUE TO THIS CHANGE

Yooo X sonic is sick, He looks great in sprite art and at first he wa hard to get a hold of but once you get used to it he's really fun.

i will agree with the last review that the delayed jump is a flaw
however
i actually have quite the affinity for the way this mod handles speed
it's kinda brilliant, the fact that despite not having a focus on momentum retention, everything is kept from that. you need more room to build up speed to gain more verticality, you need to be able to handle your speed well in order to keep it enough to have a good time, and you need to trade your speed for verticality
the snap dive feels like thok-bouncing in practice, and the zip dash, without any of the zip dash leap stuff adding that "nuance based on momentum-based gameplay without actually being momentum-based", feels like thokking around a level.
everything feels surprisingly grounded unless you're allowed either horizontal room or resources, and taking advantage of any verticality takes significant execution.
point is
it feels like a mix of momentum-based sonics and vanilla sonic while being better-balanced than either

and then there's the ring burst
love this ability
it feels surprisingly restricted, needing you to charge it up well in advance, draining your rings ridiculously fast, etc.
and it's easy to lose control with it, because you feel like a pinball (yet another thing "kept from momentum-based sonic without actually being momentum-based", but more in a sensory way this time)
and yet.
it's possibly the best ability for speedrun routing

hopefully i'm making any sense, i did just recently wake up and type up this review. i just really like this mod's way of balancing speed despite also giving it all to you
and i think that because it handles things this way, you also don't have to panic about adjusting for jumps or turns taking away your speed, which obviously is better for getting through levels faster.
and also because the mod's willing to take away your speed in the air you also don't have to worry about the player flying over everything unearned because of a jump that wasn't even well-placed

This has been my most anticipated mod for SRB2 for such a long time, so it really pains me to rate this as low as I am, but this character is just not fun to play in any content designed for a normal character.

If it's a level that was designed FOR XSonic, I feel like his moveset would be great. But as he is right now, in the stages we have access to, he's a pain.

First off, the delayed jump. I like the extra flare in that there's the crouching animation before he actually takes off, but in practice it means I need to press and hold the jump button much earlier than I'm used to because no matter what I do, there's a delay.

Second, the acceleration. It feels both too fast, and too momentum driven. During precise platforming sections, i'd often overshoot platforms, and changing directions would take so long that there was basically no way to course-correct aside from using the jump ability to completely flip my momentum, which feels awkward.

Third, the zip dash. Fun in theory, but in practice, it's so fast and unwieldy that the only way you can get any use out of it is if you are so absurdly good at the game that you can skip basically everything. On top of the fact that when you let go, there's the automatic braking so you can't actually carry that speed anywhere unless you jump. I like the idea of braking and aiming up a second dash, but I think it should be a separate button to initiate the brakes, rather than automatically losing all of your speed the moment you stop dashing.

Fourth, a speed cap when you aren't dashing. I know "earning your speed" isn't really the goal with this kind of character, but given how unwieldy zip dash actually is, most of the time you won't be dashing, so you're gonna be running SLOWER than normal sonic.

All of these combined ironically enough make one of the fastest characters into one of the most sluggish characters to practically play. Playing through the srb2 campaign twice as well as a bunch of custom stages just left me wishing it controlled better. It's such an interesting and unique moveset, but it's not tuned right. I would never willingly play this character over the dozens of other characters I have right now, which hurts me so much to say.

This mod is sublime, congratulations to all the team that worked on this! I think if there was a new sonic game, this is the perfect gameplay that is going through my head right now. I think it would be even cooler if they gave the possibility to switch between Japanese and American voice lines, something like Adventure Sonic does.

I just wanted to thank everyone on the mod team for the extraordinary work! Seriously, it was hard to believe when I saw the trailer in the premiere on the blue blur channel, it took me a few seconds to come back to reality lol, It's still crazy to think that I'm playing this mod that I've been waiting and hyped for so long, although I think the default sonic needs improvements, like, he's either too fast or he's too slow, he doesn't feel like there's a good balance to it, and that's why playing the vanilla campaign is really not that good... It really didn't give me a good first impression, but as I played different and larger maps, with actual space to use x sonic abilities, I saw how good his moveset can be and how much potential he has to do some cool shit, and it's pretty clear that it was designed with these maps in mind, which I appreciate, but (in my opinion) you should have an option that better accommodates his moveset to the vanilla game, nerfing the speed of some movements and buffing other moviments, something like that

THE SPRITEWORK HOLY SHIT ITS EYE CANDY!!! Seriously, the quality of the animations in this mod is beyond impressive, does beyond justice to sonic x's style and animations for being better and more consistent than the anime itself lol, and the quantity and level of the effects animations is just perfect too, damn I didn't even know you could put so many complex effects in a mod like that

the super transformations are PERFECT!!!!! Super Sonic has a great balance of speed, you can cross the entire map in seconds or you can just go a little slower to explore literally each part of the stage that his moveset accommodates both playstyles, I just think that collecting 100 rings is a very unnecessary requirement, especially in the case of this mod because sonic is too fast and you can take hits from enemies very often, and 100 rings is usually not an amount you occasionally get in stages, it should only be 50 or 70 rings honestly

dark sonic is a dream come true personally, is the perfect vision of what a moveset would be like for him for me, beating enemies until he naturally become "darker" until he reach the final form, It's just brilliant and hitting enemies with him is VERY SATISFYING, I honestly think it's my favorite thing about this mod

In short, the wait was worth it and this mod is the definition of perfection, it's practically a perfect vision of what a playable x sonic would be like honestly, thank you very much to everyone on this team for their hard work!

BY far a hella solid mod. Zip Dash was a bit confusing to work with but then as soon as I immediately got the timing of the jump to wall run I was set. No criticism here from me, amazing job and an amazing addition to the solid line of other distinct Sonic's especially the Adventure and Modern Sonic variants.

Yo, I think this is one of the fastest characters ever. This was 100% worth the wait. In other words, THIS IS PEAK

From what I've played so far, X Sonic was worth the wait. It does in fact feel like I am playing as the Sonic you see in the show. But I got some issues. Mostly, it has to do with the zip-dash. I think it just needs a bit extra. For instance, if you had a visual que as to when your jump would be so high Sonic would go "Wooh!" because I would keep starting a dash, and just barely not make it for Sonic to go "Wooh!" and miss my jump. I also think there should be a visual que for when your break would stop, like maybe the line showing where you would go would get lighter and lighter until you came to a stand still. The zip-dash hit box should be made bigger too, cause I would keep missing my enemies even though I swear I would hit em'! One nitpick I have is how you activate the zip-dash. It's not only Spin, but C1? Why not just make it C1? It would stop be from vaulting and then accidently using my ring-burst! Besides that, the only other thing I don't like is that the jump has that weird warm-up. It looks cool sure, but it can get annoying. Other than that, everything feels neat! It just needs those quality of life improvements to be considered a fantastic mod!

god this is such a fun character, easy one of srb2's best, im not super great but hes fun as all heck. i have GOTTA know what songs are used for both dark forms btw

the logical progression of sms, in my opinion. both extremely high skill ceiling characters that are rewarded with absolute spectacle and feedback that you are playing well. it also takes away one of the biggest complaints people had about sms, the absolute plethora of abilities that are mapped to other buttons where if you didnt know them he would just be an extremely fast sonic with a really fast thok. here, nearly all of sonic's abilities(save for the spindash) are mapped to the basic two buttons. its a much needed streamlining of abilities that his predecessor lacked. so instead of the daunting base speed and abilities, x sonic's difficulty comes from the completely overhauled physics. his jump now has a delay. his spindash is aimed only with the direction keys, if people can even find where it is. his base startup speed is probably even slower than bowser(hyperbole). i have no idea how viable this is in the long run, but maybe its a way for players to overcome the skill ceiling no matter how they play because no matter what they'll eventually get used to the new physics. judging from how the devs have shown his full potential even in casual play, i hope that it is possible. only complaint is that x sonic's iconic junichi kanemaru voice is not available. please add him. luv u all
