Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Bros. Version 2.3

Alright, I felt I should make another review about this mod since i felt i didn't exactly get my true feelings through last time. First off, I'll talk about the general "lack of flow", per se? Like, in Odyssey, after doing a dive you could cancel it into a roll and go from there. But here, there's not only no roll boost (which I can understand, it was meant to be used only like the normal roll in srb2, and that's fine), but you can't do that same dive cancel, either. Same thing goes for long jumps, in Odyssey you could go smoothly from a long jump to a roll by simply holding crouch (or i assume, at least) but here, you have to manually start rolling even if you DO hold crouch. And I appreciate that jumping on a normal enemy actually has Mario physically jump off of that enemy, but it just seems odd that the same thing doesn't happen with bosses or enemies that take multiple hits. Last but not least, i feel i should talk about the powerups, more specifically the Gold Flower and Ice flower, since you'll genuinely NEVER see them in the main campaign due to the level design having Mini Mushrooms and Metal caps instead. This isn't much of a problem most of the time, but there tends to be rings around sections where Mini Mushrooms are, due to them being Attraction Shield replacements. With that being said, this is still a pretty good mod.

It's Mario, sporting a very similar moveset from all the main 3d Mario games. He plays very well and adds a whole new way of play to SRB2, and the newest update allows the toggling of powerups making him much more fair in multiplayer gamemodes such as ringslinger.
The only problem is the custom buttons and work you have to do to get the best control scheme set up for this character, while you could play with the two main buttons many of the more advanced and powerful acrobatics require the use of custom 1 and 2. I personally have to remap my right shoulder button to crouch/ground pound for the character to work best for me.
Besides that one issue, you got yourself a perfect character right here.

mario does not curl when he jumps with the power star

Been using this mod since this came out and I love it, but the way the new dive works feels not good, would be nice if it was optional to have it work how it did in previous version were it was where you pointed

Great mod but why'd you have to change the super soundtrack.

Mod is cool.
-2 from the multiplayer lag.

Alright, first off: the Mega Mushroom theme sounds EXACTLY like it'd be a Silvagunner track.
Besides that, the powerups are great (granted, i wish the mini mushroom and gold flower were swapped around), Mario getting the Red Star when he enters a NiGHTS stage is genius, and SRB2Persona support just turning the game into an amalgamation into Mario RPG, M&L, and Paper Mario is genuinely amazing. Hopefully we get a Luigi somewhere later down the line.
Second off, here's some of my gripes:
Personally, I'd prefer if there was option to set dive to a separate button, since I either have to choose between only being able to dive odyssey style or not being able to change direction in the air while using my hammer.
It'd be a lot more convenient if the "hey stinky" emote could be moved to a button rather than being chat-only. Also, hitting anything that's relatively high in the air with a flower-type powerup is a pain. Maybe make it so that you can change the trajectory by moving the camera up or down?
Besides all that, pretty good character. I would recommend.

It's alright. The numerous custom features are probably the best part about this addon, and really serve as a highlight of what Lua can do in SRB2 these days! The sprites are fine, and making so many different animations at so many angles is certainly an impressive feat, but they're not really something that particularly wowed me.

After seeing so many rave reviews about Mario's gameplay complementing SRB2 itself quite well, I guess my expectations became a bit too high. The many abilities that Mario has are definitely fun to use, but for some reason Mario feels way too slippery to me, which really brought down my enjoyment of basic platforming...

If you have time, would you elaborate on Mario's slipperiness? Would help if we get a better grasp on the situation and maybe we can try our best to figure something out for it in a patch.
