SRB2: Generations

Are the grind rails for everyone, presumably with the roll animation for people who don't have the appropriate sprites, or just for Modern Sonic?

If they're just for Modern Sonic, are they skippable?

I know Modern Sonic is the intended playable character for this mod, but the current demo is completable by basically anyone, and is actually really fun for anyone who can go fast, and it would suck to lose that.

Also, it would maybe go against the "generations" concept some, but have you considered just cutting the classic levels? You didn't change them as far as I can tell so they're kinda just there . . .

The grind rails are accessible for everyone to use. This comes from Golden Shine's Rails mod that is still WIP.

they're for everyone--if the character doesn't have a GRND sprite then it'll default to roll.

no, some stages will have grind rails that you have to take to continue on the level.

there's no promises that everyone could beat the stage unfortunately, I'm more focused on Modern Sonic's kit rather than anyone else's. the simplest way to get past this problem is to use something like BuddyEX and load up tails or Modern Sonic himself to swap when a path requires one of his moves (which is probably just gonna be the ring dash I think?).

Currently, the classic levels are cut off.

The plan I'm trying to do right now about sorting the stages is to find someone that can do Lua magic to make BlueTorch's Stage Gates work more like their real game (Sonic Generations) counterpart--which is being able to choose if you want to play either the Modern or Classic version of the stage.

HELP WANTED :welcometoreleases:

- cool artist to recreate the 'Ready? Go!' sprites from Sonic Generations (Specifically asking for someone to help nx77 with this task.)
- cool musician to make remixes of completed stages (so far as of 9/21/24, GREENFLOWER)

- go ping me in srb2's main discord server or just barge into my dms if interested
- there is no payment for your work, lots of gratitude but I can't pay with actual currency.
- i have to put a standard on quality, as mean as it makes me feel i want to have good looking/sounding stuff jammed in this mod.
- if interested, please send examples of your work, either here or in discord.

I mean, if the rails are for everyone there's no real reason to be skippable.

There's a Light Dash port that feels less jank than it used to (still a bit) and defaults to being for Sonic, you might want to suggest that to people who want to play some variation on normal Sonic in this, or something? Idunno, I just know I had a lot of fun laying what's already here with normal Sonic, a momentum mod, and a drop dash.

Also honestly if you're not going to do new stages for Classic (personally, does not seem worth it, that'd double the work for 3D or probably just kinda suck for 2D, but I always hate 2D sections in SRB2), it kinda seems pointless to even have the gates to get to them?

Light Dash paths are planned to be completely optional so I don't have much of a reason to make this accessible for all characters--not merging this with the level pack would also save possible clashes in movesets with other characters.

SolCam has 2D Mode compatibility now, so it's not that hard to make the camera look a bit more tilted to let the player see what's incoming easier which I'm sure fixes all the jank in 2D Mode. At the moment, I'm still not really up with the idea of making 2D takes for the levels.

No yeah definitely don't merge it, just consider tossing a link it's way for people who wanna play their (probably already modded in some other ways) regular Sonic. Pre-merging things causes conflicts and is actually a bit of a pet peeve of mine.

Making extra 2D stages is absolutely unnecessary, I'm saying if you just want to make Modern stages (cool!) you might as well skip having the teleporters to classic or the special custom teleporters where you can switch, and just have the Modern stages.

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what's SolCam? I've never heard of it. And is it for level building only, or could I use myself to make some of the existing 2D stuff feel less bad? A quick search isn't turning anything up.

I think I got banned(?), so just add me. It's @krissylv_legacy
maybe you should check if you were, just try joining the server:worry:

SolCam is an amazing tool made by Jana Sol, it's a level building thing that opened more possibilities with specific level design since it lets you change where the camera is and how it reacts--it was showcased for a short bit in a GFZ-M video I uploaded in the youtube channel. Unfortunately, you can't just load it in and have 2D Mode fixed, it's really up to the dev team to fix that janky mode I think...

say is there a level addon that uses golden shines rails?
everyone says they're super good yet I've never tried them yet
lots of addons are using gs rails, shown in many gifs in the srb2 discord server
they are very good, like a major upgrade for level design, but you have to be a tester to try them at the moment.

im surprised how i never thought of asking the discord lol, also have fun being one of the many creators who are constantly harassed about a mod, you're famous now :D
