So, I finally got around to finishing this guy, after all this time... He's been nearly complete ever since the direct he was featured in aired, I just uh, got a bit distracted by a certain ice dog who'll be releasing in a few days and just finally got around to taking care of the last few bugs now...​

quick bug: you sigsegv if you activate bowser's punch the frame you get hit by an enemy

edit: confirmed it occurs on both software and ogl. hope this helps

Bowser's tail clips into the ground when viewed from behind in many animations in OpenGL, but not in Software. It's a bug I can live with, though.
 
Honestly, I like the character, but he really needs some ironing out. He has one of the EASIEST to trigger SIGSEV errors Ive ever seen: running into a Badnik at the starting frame of a haymaker kills the game; tested it multiple times to make sure I wasn't going crazy

Aside from that the only bug Ive seen visually was him randomly getting stuck in a punch animation loop after doing some specific things but I'm not sure what the cause of that was

Looking forward to hopefully seeing these gone in the future; It's a little annoying to feel like I can't use Bowser's punch at close range without risk of a crash

v1.1: The "How the hell did we not find these bugs during playtesting" Update

Changelog:
Fixed the frame-1 damage punch sigsegv. Was apparently caused by me being a complete idiot a few months ago and changing the dead crawla's mobjtype for... some reason? Genuinely not sure why I was doing that, but no issues seem to occur when that bit of code is removed, and the crash seems to be gone, so that's nice at least.

Fixed the bug where if you managed to hit a horizontal spring while in the punch's windup, you'd stay in a looping version of the punch animation...

I'm not finding the download for the v1.1 update, all I'm getting when I click on the orange download button is the v1. I'm guessing the v1.1 wasn't attached to the update entry?

That's... weird? I get v1.1 when I click the download button...
 
IMHO, I'm somewhat disinclined to say I can really "play" Bowser if I can't breath fire, in any capacity. Like, I get it- attack moves that stop you dead in your tracks like that don't fit Sonic gameplay, but it's just so essential to what makes him Bowser in the first place that it's very noticeable when he doesn't. It's like how despite the name, "Burn Bot" was a robot who didn't attack with fire (at first)


If you'd maybe put it on another custom button or one of the Ring Fire buttons, out of the way of his current button setup, that'd be a perfectly fine way to give players that option if they wanted it. Although, I admit it sounds sorta complicated to have him not get hurt by his own fire without making him completely immune to fire hazards.
 
This mod is great so far, but I think erz1 is impossible because of the fact he's left in his shell spin state, and on the 2nd vent in the no spin route you can literally get stuck bouncing back and forth, and he also bounces on the stairs at the start of the spin route
 
A tad off topic but how is your message board amy themed is this a feature of the site or is this done via some browser extension
It's a feature of the site. Go to your account and then preferences, style is the very first thing you should see at the top and how you can change the look of the site.
 
How to taunt with bowser? I tried every button and waited, but nothing happened.
 
Im glad to see the bugs patched out so fast. Bowser is pretty fun, the only thing I personally think he needs is some more visual flair to his moves

If I can throw out an idea, maybe something like a yellow after-image effect on this punch? Or perhaps a small dust puff behind him when he punches or launches into shell form?

Ooh, that's actually a pretty cool idea! I do have plans for eventual updates that do more then just bugfixes, perhaps I could add something along those lines then.
