Who's Terios
Shadow's beta design

Really enough if there's enough from Sonic X to be distinct enough from other Sonics

Here's the poll, everybody! https://strawpoll.com/hdcgc3bzc

So, the results are in... and mostly tied.
So, here's what I'm going to do. I will make Terios first. He will have the same moveset as DC-Sonic, and his visual effects will be toned down to a point. The most noticeable differences will be his sprites, his lack of voice clips, and lack of super music. Then, after he's released, I'll start DC-Sonic again.

I'll get to work on making a design that I will use for Terios's sprites, and then start spriting. This will be the first full character that I will be spriting, so please, have patience.

Wait, will DC-Sonic release alongside Terios after he's done? or will it be something else?

Alright guys, I have some good news and some bad news. Basically, after quite a bit of thinking, I felt like the redesign that I came up with for Terios deserves to be more than just a reskin of Dreamcast Sonic, and I never ended up actually drawing it out, because I don't have the skills necessary. So Terios is semi canceled, as I want to make him have his own identity. Besides, part of me just wanted to continue Dreamcast Sonic, but I really didn't know how I would reach the level of quality that SolarStellar (BlueBlur) had on his sprites...

And then it hit me: What if I didn't try to live up to his legacy? What if I could prerender a 3D model that is reusable, has been rigged, and represents the Era? What if... I used that remake of Sonic's CGI cutscene model from SA1?

So basically, not only did I decide on a look I liked, but I also found a blender addon capable of importing SADX and SA2 models, textures, and animations! I simply combined this with a modified version of the SRB2 blender plug in, and the result was a sleek new design with extremely smooth animations that I had to speed up in lua, because a majority of them are 32 frames long! There's a few things to note though...

His angles rendered backwards, and there was no way I could fix it in blender, because rotating the model made the animations break. I'll have to either find a Slade script that can fix this, or do it manually, which will take a really long time.

I did manage to get him to be recolorable, but only outside of his super form. I would have just used Sonic's textures on Super Sonic, except the textures are layed out in a way that's so different that it was actually difficult to even recolor manually! After converting the renders over to SRB2's colors, his fur matched with the shoe buckles, and due to the fact that I'd have to manually recolor about 1000 separate images, his super form is staying this way. The color of his spin trail is going to be a static color for super as well, and the fact that the color is static won't matter as much when I add the super aura. Besides, it's technically accurate to the source material!

So I can't show him off quite yet, despite how much I want to. But I will say this much, all the frames are rendered now and work in game! I'll get back to you guys when the rotation of the angles are fixed, with some gifs. Until then!

What about upgrades?

i'm excited for what you have planned! it's a shame that the plans for actual spritework fell through, but i think the prerendered sprites make up for it enough for it to not be an issue at all. i'm interested to see how the "extremely smooth animations" and of course the rest of the character will play out ingame, good luck man.
