I am extremely disappointed.
This has got to be the first big mod that cannot complete the vanilla game, and somehow it got passed during testing.
This right here, THIS RIGHT HERE, is why no matter what playstyle you use, it SHOULD be tested throughout the main campaign. No exceptions.
For context, attempting to fight Metal Sonic as Elfilin results in a softlock, either because his AI is stuck in place or because Elfilin's attacks aren't designed with this in mind. As a result; in Update 1.1, Metal sonic just self destructs and text appearing at the top of the screen saying "๐๐๐๐จ ๐๐ค๐จ๐จ ๐จ๐ค๐๐ฉ๐ก๐ค๐๐ ๐จ ๐๐ก๐๐๐ก๐๐ฃ ๐๐ช๐ ๐ฉ๐ค ๐๐ฉ๐จ ๐ฌ๐๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ช๐๐๐ฎ ๐ฃ๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ง๐, ๐จ๐ค ๐ฎ๐ค๐ช ๐๐ช๐จ๐ฉ ๐๐๐ฉ ๐ฉ๐ค ๐จ๐ ๐๐ฅ ๐๐ฉ. ๐๐ค๐ค๐ง๐๐ฎ!"
This is nothing but a band-aid fix. It does not solve anything nor does it do anything. At least with Kirby's mod the author made it optional to skip the boss, as Metal Sonic's attacks can spawn stars which Kirby can inhale, and when Metal Sonic dodges it also spawns stars, which allows him to take damage. Meanwhile the re-precautions of this band-aid fix means any custom mappack or mod that relies on Metal Sonic as a boss is affected by this, which may not be to the user's liking.
It baffles me even more there wasn't even an attempt at fixing it, either his portals could trigger his dodging animation or the abnormally large hitbox for the spears he throws out could trigger it, but all we get is some cheap insta-kill method which ends the level shortly afterwards. This is a poor design choice, and even in 1.0 this SOMEHOW got through bug testing and managed to be released onto the message board.
I thought unfinished level packs were bad enough, but a character mod from a judge that cannot beat the vanilla game itself? This has hit a new low.
I'm genuinely surprised no one else has talked about this.
As for why it wasn't caught in testing, it's hard to get the bug to occur twice in a row. It's common enough to be a problem, but just infrequent enough to have been missed. I'm still not even sure why this only gets triggered *sometimes*, I haven't the slightest clue what could even be causing such seemingly random behavior in a game with largely pre-determined "RNG".
