Classic Sounds

Classic Sounds 5.0.1

Classic Sounds
After a little over a year, I'm back with a big update. A lot of changes have been made to improve this mod (as well as making sure this mod is up to snuff with my current tastes), but mainly two (if you don't want to read the changelog):
  • As of this update, Classic Sounds is no longer about improving sound quality, but improving sound assignments. The goal of this mod is to replace most of Sonic Robo Blast 2's sounds with ones from the Genesis games, not to refine and polish existing ones. As such, the higher-quality Genesis sounds have been removed and replaced with the low-quality ones from the original game's files (mostly Sonic 3 & Knuckles sounds); others are outsourced.
  • This update uses sounds that are way closer to the Genesis games than previous ones. Before this update, I assigned sounds almost randomly. Now, this mod has better sound assignments so you can expect to hear them play almost exactly where they would in the Genesis games.
Now, for the five of you who actually care about details (get ready, it's a big one):

Classic Sounds
  • Classic Sounds no longer uses high-quality sounds. This was supposed to reduce the file size, but using the Genesis sounds from the original game's files instead has ironically increased the file size by approximately 0.8 MB.
  • Sound assignments are more accurate to the Genesis games.
  • [sfx_ambmac] Replaced the HHZ machinery sound with Lava Reef’s spindash lift sound from Sonic & Knuckles.
  • Replaced water ambience sounds with sounds from Sonic 1 (2013) and Hydrocity’s from Sonic Mania. (These were replaced in favor of waterfalls; rivers use the original game’s sounds.)
  • [sfx_appear] Replaced the sound for appearing FOF platforms with Flying Battery’s rotating sphere chain sound from Sonic & Knuckles.
  • [sfx_athunx] Replaced the thunder sounds with Flying Battery's from Sonic Mania.
  • Black Eggman's sounds are more accurate to the Death Egg Robot and Phantom Egg from Sonic Mania, as well as the Egg Spinner and Final Weapon from Sonic CD and Sonic & Knuckles, respectively.
  • Black Eggman’s laughter has been muted.
  • [sfx_bsnipe] Added a replacement sound for touching Egg Robos to be more accurate to speed shoe damage behavior from Sonic 3D Blast: Director’s Cut.
  • [sfx_begoop, sfx_cannon] Replaced old Black Eggman’s / unused cannonball sounds to be more accurate to cannons from Sonic Mania / Sonic Origins.
  • [sfx_chuchu] Replaced ACZ’s train horn sound with Mirage Saloon’s from Sonic Mania.
  • [sfx_deton] Fixed the Deton chase sound.
  • Added new elevator sounds from Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
  • [sfx_fizzle] Replaced Black Eggman’s electric barrier deactivating sound with the water splash from Sonic 3 & Knuckles. (This was replaced to be more consistent to the player’s if they’re in green acid in Black Core Zone Act 3.)
  • [sfx_ghosty] Added a replacement sound for getting hit by a Spinbobert, now using an unused sound from Sonic CD.
  • [sfx_laser] Replaced the laser sound with a continuous version of Mecha Sonic’s spinning spines from Sonic 2.
  • [sfx_litngx] Replaced the lightning sounds with Metallic Madness' thunder from Sonic Mania.
  • [sfx_lvfal1] Fixed the lavafall erupting sound. (This was fixed to be more accurate to Lava Reef from Sonic & Knuckles.)
  • [sfx_mindig] Added a replacement sound for Minus tunneling underground, now using the sound of the Death Egg launching from Sky Sanctuary in Sonic & Knuckles.
  • [sfx_ngskid] Replaced the sound for stopping in NiGHTS Special Stages with the unused shield sound from Sonic 3 & Knuckles. (This was replaced in favor of the Force Shield to be more accurate to 2.2 Shield Abilities, but it unfortunately effects stopping in Special Stages as well.)
  • [sfx_pumpkn] Added a replacement sound for destroying a pumpkin, now using the boss explosion sound from Sonic CD.
  • [sfx_railx] Replaced the Rail Ring sounds with Sonic 3 & Knuckles sounds. (These were replaced to be both more accurate to Super Sonic’s ring fire code from Sonic 3 (Nov 3, 1993 prototype) / Sonic 3C Delta, and consistent with Adventure Sonic’s Far Thok ability.)
  • Fixed air bubble, super transformation and spindash release sounds to be consistent to Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
  • [sfx_shrpgo] Fixed the sound for Spincushion launching towards the player to be more consistent to the player’s action sounds, which are now all consistent to Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
  • [sfx_splash] Added a replacement sound for running on lava, now being an echo of “sfx_lvfal1”. (This was replaced to be more consistent to the new lavafall erupting sound from Sonic & Knuckles.)
  • [sfx_telept] Replaced the Egg Mobile dashing sound with the Egg Drillster Mk.II’s from Sonic 3.
  • [sfx_wdjump] Replaced the Whirlwind Shield jump with the sound of Egg Robo launching from the Death Egg in Sky Sanctuary from Sonic & Knuckles. (This was replaced to be more consistent to the gas jet sounds, which have also been replaced in previous updates.)
  • [sfx_wslap] Added a replacement sound for water skipping, now using a splash sound from Sonic Mania.
  • [sfx_s1ab] Replaced the Jet Jaw chomping sound with a more fitting sound from Sonic 2.
  • [sfx_s3k40] Replaced the Attraction Shield homing attack sound with the Insta-Shield sound from Sonic 3 & Knuckles. (This was replaced to be more accurate to the Gold Shield from Sonic 3D Blast.)
  • [sfx_s3k52] Replaced the spike pop-up sound with Batbrain's flying sound from Sonic 1. (This was replaced in favor of Hangster in Haunted Heights to be more accurate to Batbrains, but it unfortunately effects Robo-Hood's arrows as well.)
  • [sfx_s3k58, sfx_s3k9a] Replaced door and button sounds with Flying Battery’s from Sonic & Knuckles. (These were replaced to make it more obvious that doors are being opened and buttons/switches activated.)
  • [sfx_s3kc5s] Replaced Egg Guard's revving sound with unused revving sound from Sonic 3 & Knuckles. (This was replaced to be more consistent to Stegway's attack behavior from Sonic 2 (2013).)
  • [sfx_kc6b] Fixed the sound for ascending in the Continue screen. Now it uses both left and right channels properly. (This was fixed to be more accurate to Knuckles’ Chaotix prototypes.)
Extra Sounds
  • It’s called “Extra Sounds” now. Deal with it.
  • [sfx_s3k63] Redid alternate starpost sound.
  • Redid blue / red spring sounds with Sonic 3 & Knuckles’s from the original game’s files.
  • [sfx_wdring] Replaced homemade super ring monitor sound with the actual one from Sonic Worlds.
  • Metal Sonic and Metal Knuckles’s sound assignments have been changed to be more accurate to Metal Knuckles in HPZ for Sonic 3 A.I.R.
  • Removed unnecessary sound assignments from the SOC.
  • Minor sound tweaks.
Congratulations, nerds! You read the whole thing! See you another year, or something.
Added Metal sound support for Metal Knuckles (CSP only).
Swapped DSRAIL (far thok) sounds so they're more in-line with Adventure Sonic's.
  • Updated Classic Sounds with missing sounds.
  • Only Metal Sonic uses CD sounds now (Sounds+ only.)
  • Updated Sounds+ with a new starpost sound that has a familiar melody...
  • Added new token sound.
Sorry about the frequent updates. Needed to do one more before I leave this alone for a while.
  • The Skins folder has been moved to Sounds+.
    • This means the CD sounds for Amy, Fang and Metal are only included in there.
    • The standalone file actually SAVES now.
  • The SOC from the original file has been moved a separate file called Sounds+.
    • Because of this, new sounds such as the Super Ring, red and blue springs, and Sonic 1 2013 menu sounds will be included in that separate file.
    • This was done so that the original file can save game progress.
    • Also, to a lesser extent, the Green Spring Shell badnik from Techno Hill now uses the blue spring sound (SOC only).
Hey, guys. Been a while, huh?

This is really just an update to for me adjust myself to the new SRB2 Message Board, but you can take it as an actual update if you wish! I've also added an orange download link for the new version at the top of the page. Old versions, however, will remain as attachments from now on (along with the new update). Enjoy the update, guys!

Here's the new stuff:
  • File size has been decreased from 15 MB to 4 MB.
  • The Super Ring box has been given a unique sound similar to Not So Simple Sonic Worlds.
  • Red and blue springs have been given unique variants similar to Sonic Time Twisted.
  • Added new menu sounds from Sonic 1 2013.
  • Adjusted and replaced specific sounds that were too loud.
  • Removed accidental copies of DSS3KCBS and DSS3KCBL.
  • Modified SOC.
