What in the world is SRB2 Workshop?

I did do research. I understand why fans hate portlegs. I even disagree with Sandwichface on some things. View attachment 101249
This was just taken straight from his vid that I linked already. I'm getting sick of these arguments.

Why can't we solve this properly? Just get STJR, the WS mods, and HAVE A CONVERSATION ON WHY THEY DO WHAT THEY DO. I DON'T CARE THAT THE WS DOES PORTLEGS. JUST HAVE A CONVERSATION ON A PRIVATE VOICE CHAT OR CHAT ON DISCORD TO DISCUSS THIS CRAP. I LEGITMATELY CANNOT STAND THIS COMMUNITY DIVIDED ANYMORE.
This isn't about solving anything, because at the end of the day, its the creator of the workshops choice if they want to keep hosting portlegs/mods with stolen content. It sucks that people can't respect modders wishes and not take things that souly belong to them without permission, but what can anyone do about this exactly? Nothing.

But also, its your choice to use the site or not. You can post your things on the workshop, game banana or here if you want to, but at the end of the day its your choice. Its honestly silly that you think the community is going to be dived over that mediocre site. Grass is still going to grow, Sun is still going to go up and down with or without the workshop.

Honestly, I recommend everyone in this thread to simply stay away from it, it really is just a bootleg MB and its worse in every way. But its your choice if you want to. Download, Upload, do anything you want on the site and the world will not end.

Can confirm that you cannot do this, you literally can't just change if your mod is reusable or not if its already released. That would be stupid.

I'm pretty sure sandwich face made a point about this in his video he did about reusability and id assume that's were he got it from, if that's the case then yall need to do some research LOL
you literally cannot do this lmao
Wanted to make a quick note that I did a test myself and it seems that yes, you can freely modify a mod's reusability as much as you want:

huh, ive never actually seen this part when I was waiting for my addon to be accepted. well you proved me wrong

however, there's probably some sort of thing to make it so that getting half of your mods progress deleted because of this won't or rarely will happen

there's another thing I want to point out as well, if something like this DID happen, it would be a setback for sure but then you can take the time to learn how to make a script similar to that one yourself, even take some reference. it would be a setback for sure but it would also be a learning experience.

I believe there's been a big misunderstanding - there is nothing for STJr dev and staff to discuss with the Workshop administration about anything. Our policies have existed and continue to exist independent of them, and we have no stake in the existence of alternate communities. The idea that there's any "division" in the community regarding the Workshop is completely fabricated.

While I understand to respect people's wishes, what if it was reusable? Then suddenly its not, and now your entire mod is ruined. They were perfectly ok before, but now they changed their mind on a whim, without any communication to me, the modder of his mod. How is that fair? Also, I'm gonna stop taking Sandwich's points on the errors of the reusability system, just watch the vid right here. And before I get a reply saying he doesn't give a shit on "artists", WATCH THE DAMN VIDEO. I say this strictly for context, as this points out a lot of things wrong with the reusability system.

You are completely correct, but this existing is purely just a forum issue. I was only made aware of it for the first time the other day when someone reported it to me. (Yes, it went several months without anyone reporting it) But what really caught me off guard was that our new-ish forum software doesn't provide a way to track the history of someone changing that either, which is absurd and annoying. I tried to immediately resolve it and experimented with a few settings, but it's going to require a more labor intensive solution (expect an update to the whole system in the next week or two).

Here's the silver lining though: If a mod says [Open Assets], it means it's truly open assets regardless of whatever else it says, because that's not something the author can change or take away once they've asked for it.

Otherwise, I'll say that aside from any forum issue, you're preaching to the choir here. We've never let people do takebacksies on permission in practice, because you're correct, that is extremely unfair, and we've been treating that as unfair for as long as I've been staff. There have been situations with people who tried to revoke permission on others in the past, and it's never flown.

(Proof: Here's me dealing with a similar issue in 2020 on the old forum software)

I COMPLETELY agree with you on this. Your ancient-ass mod 9/10 isn't gonna be ported to 2.2 by you, so let people who actually enjoyed your work do it for you.
IDK WHY PEOPLE CRY ABOUT THAT.
it's because, literally. your mod will be known more if its ported.
they might even add more cool shit (i'm looking at you, reminiscenes pack)

1. The person that created the mod should be the one to port it unless they don't want it to be or give someone else permission too because they made the mod.

2. The "add cool shit" part is ironically only true for the ports that had permission for it, the truth is that most of these ports are trash and don't do the original mod justice, like the Inazuma port on the workshop.

there's a reason to not want your mod to be ported by a complete stranger.

With all due respect, you don’t make mods, and so don’t have a clear picture of how we feel about our mods. It’s not about the attention for us.

Ok, so how do you genuinely feel about your mods then?
I can’t answer for all modders, that’s why the MB gives you multiple options about whether it’s okay or not to maintain your mods. Personally, I like the idea of my mods being fondly remembered enough to be ported, but I don’t want edits of them to be uploaded otherwise. I spent countless hours of my free time on them, I don’t think “Please don’t reupload edits of my mods without permission” is an unreasonable ask. Apparently though, some people are not only incapable of asking for permission, but they will get mad if you say they should’ve.

"And so, the Sandwichface's road came to an end... for now. In the New World of the SRB2 Message Board, arguing continued, sweat was spilled, and many were unbanned and banned just as they had in the Old World. Because war... War never changes."

nobody cares if you add more stuff. if i explicitly request that my mod not be tampered with i expect that request to be met with understanding, not "b-but it'll look so much cooler when im done!! promise!!!"

Once again issuing a small correction here. It seems you are also able to revoke a mod's "Open Assets" tag, and in fact if you do so there doesn't seem to be a way to readd it again.

Of course as you also stated this wouldn't fly regardless with the forum rules, but it's an issue with the software that should be addressed.

Are we still allowed to download mods from another website like gamebanana or srb2 ws?
i don't believe there's any rules stating you can't use srb2ws

They stated the Open Assets tag cannot be revoked, and I'm demonstrating that this is not the case.

Wasn't Fsonic reuseable within the last 3 to 4 years?

Because during that time frame we knew Fsonic was used as a dev version of 2.2 sonic and also during that time his front walking franes got added to Srb2 the past. A mod were everything in it is supposed to be an open asset.

Edit: just double checked, reusability of F sonic was indeed revoked.

Ok, but my argument here is not about edits of pre-existing mods, it's about whether a mod can be ported without needing to ask someone every goddamn time whether or not I can.
