X Sonic

X Sonic v1.1c

i love this mod so much but why did you make the worst boss in the game even worse
Why does every attack from Metal Sonic knock you against the wall when he's surrounded by a bottomless pit

tee hee just asking

So for some reason it wouldn't save my progress when collecting fake emeralds and whatnot.

Is there an admin command to just give them back to myself?

I just found out that Sonic X can do Spindash.

This character mod is insane, but I have only one complaint.

Why is it that when reverting from Super Sonic, all of his rings go with him? It doesn't make sense.

Dark Sonic is even more LITERALLY insane. The combos I pulled off with that form was astronomical. Though I don't recognize his theme song anywhere. Is it from Devil May Cry or something? I feel like I'm Here from Frontiers (Final Horizon) would fit so much more, but that's just me.

I'm sorry but I'm here would N O T fit for dark sonic

I love seeing the amount of passion and care taken in his sprite work. He looks so clean in all his forms. That being said, in terms of gameplay, he seems profoundly limited to speedrunning predetermined routes and that's just about it. His moveset is actually detrimental in pretty much all gameplay that doesn't involve skipping most of the levels. I still enjoy playing him, but it's hard to justify picking X Sonic in maps not designed specifically for him, or that aren't generally composed of a lot of straight lines.

If there's actual platforming involved or precarious areas, he's kind of frustrating to play. His 0-100 playstyle is certainly flashy and cool, but functionally doesn't seem to fit into 90% of the content SRB2 has to offer, which is a shame because I still want to keep playing him. But not by figuring out all the angles to skip the levels. It kinda seems like he was designed to be played exclusively by grindersky or by veterans who have nothing left to experience besides beating the levels comically fast.

There is undeniable skill and passion used to make X Sonic. But functionally, he doesn't seem to be made to be played outside of maps designed for him, as you're either uncontrollably fast or disappointingly slow with no granularity in between. In typical gameplay that results in you ironically being slower than most characters because unless you're skipping platforming, you're accidentally overshooting it with no way to course correct unless every move you make is pixel perfect, which is just unwieldy and unrealistic. Also, the circumstances for a helpful wallrun are way too strict for it to be a reliable method of traversal, and most of the time you try it, you don't get to where you want to be. Zip-dashing around looks cool, but is almost always an impractical choice so players feel the need to just walk around at a slower than normal Sonic pace. Though, despite my criticisms, I feel that with some thoughtful modifications or perhaps an alternate setting/mode/moveset for him, he could be perfect.

I'll be watching the development closely though as this mod was made with talent.
Are you sure these are issues with the character mod inherently, or are you just making poor usage of him? You seem to be speaking on behalf of the... "players", but from what I can tell, there aren't too many people with the same complaints you're making. I can't even vouch for what you're saying; X Sonic seems to work just fine in the vanilla maps, you just need to know what you're doing.

He's a skilled-based character, he takes skill to use, and skill takes time and practice to build up. I didn't pick him up and run through levels perfectly right off the bat, I had to actually put in the time and effort to try and make the most of his skillset.

Either you need to practise more, or he just isn't for you, friend. I don't believe this is anything to do with poor design, frankly

Maybe not the original version. I was talking about both versions from the Final Horizon.
I still stand by my opinion that the current dark sonic theme is better.

Sorry I just can't see either of the I'm here themes being used for dark sonic
Especially with him being a fuckin killing machine

So... I just played Azure Temple with X Sonic. Well, attempted anyway. And I have to ask: was underwater gameplay not tested at all or was it made the way it is on purpose as one big joke?

First of all, underwater jumps.
Every time X Sonic is underwater and his feet are not touching the ground all of his momentum gets reduced to abysmal level making almost every instance of underwater platforming impossible without spending rings. I can live with Zip Dash being disabled and an already weak spindash becoming even weaker but this seems unreasonably crippling.

Second of all, speed shoes.
This has to be a joke done on purpose. The thing is, X Sonic can actually run decently fast underwater if you just let him run around... However if you pick up speed shoes X Sonic for some reason slows down to a crawl.

Of course, almost all of X Sonic's underwater problems disappear if you pick up an Elemental/Bubble shield but depending on a typically rare power-up to have normal underwater gameplay seems wrong to me.
It's supposed to be accurate to the anime
So for some reason it wouldn't save my progress when collecting fake emeralds and whatnot.

Is there an admin command to just give them back to myself?
no but there is an reset emeralds data command

Super time attack is always on you can choose beetween dark fulldark super off it only works in record attack or marathon run

So the character is absolutely nuts but I have to be specific about where some of my praise is coming from cause it's kinda contrarian to what I'm hearing is his weakest points re; water. I've beaten the main campaign and most of the latest OLDC maps with X Sonic and the learning curve was already steep but it came to a crawl when going underwater. Now, good Sonic stages usually don't make you be in water for a long time and give you options, and X Sonic exacerbates this by being useless in water... except for that he has a get-out-of-jail-free card move for any situation called Ring Burst.

Ring Burst was VERY unruly for me at first, probably the hardest move to control, but making him a glass canon and balancing his weakest state with a hard to use move to me was very, very satisfying. In almost every situation, as long as I've played good and kept my rings, I can get out of the worst watery situations thanks to Ring Burst. And It's given me a reason to rely on it and 'git gud' at X Sonic.
This is barring stuff like Azure Temple which is literally intended to be the hardest challenge stage. It's already very difficult to clear regardless of character so I don't think bringing it up here is a fair way to criticize X Sonic.

I could say a lot about balancing and who's OP/broken in terms of chars in SRB2, some definitely just kinda make every stage easier and it's not always a bad thing but X Sonic is def not one of those for me. For someone who has way too many hrs in this game I think he's great.
