Spinarak holding a Carbos bottle

"Someone must've left these bottles of Carbos around the Greenflower Region, Maybe we could take usage of them and become more faster and stronger!"

Thanks for still playing Spinarakrb2 even after the addition of the rewritten lua abilities! This is Part 2 of the major v2 update! This final part improves the said character abilities to make them even more playable as well as fixing some issues!

Okay this update was supposed to be out way a lot sooner, but where do I even begin? The computer I previously used apparently hit a fuse during the progress, so I had to start all over on a new one but here we are, as well as many hours spent fixing up stuff when the update was deemed ready numerous times!

Anyways, here's what has changed for each character:

MAJOR UPDATE
: Spinarak finally gets an all new resprite with better quality and less janky sprites to fit in with my current artstyle! This was a really hard decision to make as I was deeply attached with Spinarak's previous design before this update, but the design felt very off when the pack was being used alongside with other people's character packs in servers so I decided to resprite him. The previous sprites were actually re-used from his Ring Racers counterpart which probably explains the jankiness...

Spinarak's Toxic Thread ability now finally works as a trap (which has been planned ever since v1.1 of the solo Spinarak addon was made, but the trap mechanic never worked).

In Multiplayer, Toxic Threads are now recolored to the player's color to tell who spun the web, they will still fade to white if playing on Co-op mode. But in PvP modes, Toxic Threads laying on the ground can now explode and damage opposing players who end up landing on it! Not only that but the trap works against enemies in Co-op mode as well!

ADDITIONAL CHANGES:
- Spinarak has been given a new jump sound, one that doesn't vibrate my speakers all the time...
- Fixed bug where Spinarak can get stuck in his Lunge state if touching 2 corners while in goop.
- Speaking of goop, Spinarak's Lunge boost now works differently inside of it.
- Spinarak now uses a new set of sprites when falling off a wall instead of his pain sprites.
- In the Team Match and Capture The Flag modes, Spinarak's thok effects are now recolored to his team's color.
- Toxic Threads are no longer considered solid, you can no longer stack them ontop of each other. This was done to prevent other players from being killed by getting crushed by stacks of webs easily.

STAPY
stapwanted.png

srb20018.gif

Stapy can now use his Stapler Gun during his Long Jump, a much faster way of travel! Additionally, Stapy can get a slightly better boost when fastfalling onto things.

ADDITIONAL CHANGES:
-
Stapy now has a custom death sound that varies if that was his last life or not (TPOT 25 Spoilers).
- Stapy can now get his Stapler Gun boost while Super, even if he's below 25 rings.
- Softened a majority of Stapy's voice clips.

MOTOBUG
mbugwanted.png

srb20016.gif

Tired of Motobug being labeled as "The Speedrunner" yet is locked to only land with no aerial abilities to speed blitz through the zones? Well look no further as Motobug now gets an additional ability known as "Rocket Boost" which he can use midair.

Hold Spin midair to charge up a secondary jump and let go to release the charge! It charges up pretty quickly and you can tell it's fully ready to go once Motobug flashes. However, your fall won't slow down during the charge and landing can cancel it midcharge so be careful!

ADDITIONAL CHANGES:
- Removed a purple stray pixel in DRWNC0 (in which has been there ever since the rebrand apparently, this may or may not be the whole reason why this update even started)
- Drop Dash sound differs when using it in Boost Mode.
- After Drop Dashing directly onto a spring, you can now release the extra boost much earlier!
- Dying in a death pit will no longer release the multiplayer-exclusive Pocky since it always despawns the second it appears anyways.

SUPER ABILITY - FUSION BOLT

srb20024.gif

In addition with the character changes, their exclusive Super ability has been tweaked as well!

The toggle dsh_darkstonepowers is now Off by default, this is because most players mainly came for the characters themselves, and not for their out-of-character AU appearances. You can always turn it back on in the console if you want to!

Spinarak, Stapy, and Motobug can no longer go Super unless if dsh_darkstonepowers is toggled On. However, external addons can still force these characters to go Super without much problem. Toggling it back Off will forcibly remove the Super effects from any player using these characters.

I still do not plan to make separate super sprites for any of these characters.

ADDITIONAL CHANGES:
- Bug fix where trying to use Fusion Bolt inside goop will constantly spawn in the explosion effects that normally play after landing. Now, it cannot be used at all inside goop.
- Altered the console messages that show up when changing the toggle of this ability.

OTHER CHANGES:

srb20093.png
srb20094.png
srb20095.png

- All three characters now have new higher quality character select portraits and new backgrounds!
- Converted all SOC objects into Lua objects.
- All addon sound effects now have custom subtitles.
- Added a console message that shows up upon loading this addon on a different version other than the SRB2 version this pack was made for, in that case: v2.2.15
- Changed the sound effect that plays upon loading the addon or toggling dsh_darkstonepowers
- Fixed issue where multiple warnings would appear in the console upon spectating this with addon loaded. (I apparently had this issue listed as something I couldn't fix, but realized I already did a lua script that patched that issue, Thanks String Spit Pack)
- Updated the unused MODICON graphic
- Switching between these characters during death should be less buggy now.

Please note that due to several changes made to the pack, any record attack ghosts saved from versions v2.0 or earlier may show sprite errors in the console.

EXTERNAL ADDON COMPATIBLITIES:
All three characters also have extra sprites and graphics made specifically for certain external addons, I do not plan to include any extra lua scripts to tweak their abilities there without breaking the main addon. So far these external addons include:

- SUGOI: Intro poses for Dimension Disaster Zone and Burnt Death sprites.
- Manhunt: Last Man Standing renders, made specifically for the upcoming v2 update of that addon.
- EPIC! Murder Mystery: Dead body sprites and showdown sprites.

I hope you enjoy the update as much as I enjoyed making it! This update should hopefully be the last for a while, hopefully no hotfixes either. Feel free to report any issues you find or give suggestions on what external addons I should try to add compatibility for the next future update!

LAST SPINARAK STANDING.png
spinarakrb2 v2.PNG

"Our three very unexpected heroes managed to bring the Dark Stone back to Dragonspiral Tower after a long journey in the Greenflower Region and managed to awaken the legendary dragon Zekrom within the stone. Unexpectedly in return he lent over some of his power to the trio!?"

Thanks for still playing Spinarakrb2 after the character pack rebrand. This took a long time but Version 2 is finally OUT! This update reworks all of the characters' abilities with the usage of Lua. Their gameplay should be a bit similar with their lualess counterparts.

srb20079.gif

Firstly, let's go over one of the biggest changes yet, both Stapy and Motobug can now become Super alongside Spinarak (who could already go super since the beginning, though none of these characters still have alternate sprites when super, Sorry!) with the addition of the special move "Fusion Bolt" all 3 characters can utilize while Super. Become one with a massive ball of electricity and release it upon your foes!

This ability is toggleable and is On by default. It can be toggled Off for those who dislike the idea of this. The command for this ability is dsh_darkstonepowers

This special move was originally called "Bolt Strike" during development (that's why the attack is yellow), but I wanted to rename it to "Fusion Bolt" since some players (like me) using it might end up staying in the air for the whole time without even releasing the attack, and with "fusion" in the name I guess you become one with the massive ball of electricity during the attack.

srb20077.gif
srb20076.gif

Additionally, all 3 characters' movesets have been reworked in which could heavily change their gameplay experiences. You may also notice that:

- Stapy is now as fast as the other 2 in the pack, as well as his Long Jump being slightly buffed.

- Motobug loses his Flame Wheel ability, being replaced with a simple spindash. But can also regain his mobility without having to do a Twinspin!

- Spinarak can now use Toxic Thread midair, similar to how Fang will be able to use his popgun midair in the planned SRB2 v2.3 update!

I'm still kinda new to lua scripting so please expect several bugs to occur while playing! Feel free to report any bugs you find and see if I can fix them! Please refer to the Overview page for a full detailed description of these characters and a list of bugs I currently cannot fix as of now.

I hope you enjoy this pack as much as I enjoyed updating it!

spinarakrb2 v1.2.png

Thanks for still playing Spinarakrb2! Even though it was only one week after the previous update, I decided to give this pack a major update and rebranded the lone Spinarak addon into a full character pack, now known as Stapy's Dark Stone Heroes.

This update adds in Stapy and Motobug as playable characters to accompany Spinarak on his adventures.

You can find what the two newcomers can do on the overview page.

Also, Spinarak's height hitbox has finally changed to be small enough to perfectly fit inside gaps that normally require a spindash to get through, this also means that Spinarak can beat Haunted Heights Zone and Azure Temple Zone! Thanks to his smaller size, Spinarak should set up bouncy webs much more easier now! And lastly, Spinarak's signpost and hud icon have been resprited.
Key Art for Release v1.1, depicting Spinarak using a dried out web as a spring

Thanks for playing the Spinarakrb2 addon! Almost 700 downloads for my first vanilla SRB2 addon? Impressive.

Anyways, this is the first update dropped after the initial release in which improves Spinarak's spin ability, Toxic Thread.

Spinarak tries to get up the tall platform with his Lunge ability, not working so he instead uses his Toxic Thread ability to make it up.

While Toxic Thread still works like your average Gunslinger ability, Toxic Thread now has an extra usage for it instead of just breaking apart after touching the floor. Now if there is no target when the attack is fired, the web will temporarily slide onto the ground, drying it's venom out before turning white where you can use it as a spring instead, allowing Spinarak and his friends to jump higher than before! Not only the web springs players upwards but it can also let them use their abilities midair too!

When a dried out web is used by a player, it will temporarily regain it's venom before quickly drying out again, allowing itself to be used as a spring again! Dried out webs will despawn if no player interacts with them for at least 10 seconds!

When firing a Toxic Thread for this purpose, be careful that the web can still break when colliding with walls if it's in it's venomous state. You'd want to make a certain distance for it if you want the web to dry out!
It's been quite a long wait but Spinarak is finally here and available to download for vanilla Sonic Robo Blast 2!

This very minor update applies some hotfix patches I had to do during the wait:
- Resolved some miscolored pixels from Spinarak's side-walk animation
- Removed a duplicate XTRAB0 that contained Spinarak's prototype signpost
- Fixed Spinarak's life icon

With that out of the way, I hope you have fun with the String Spit Pokémon throughout your journey!
