Soo.. What's SRB2 Starlight?

Basically.. SRB2 Starlight tries to recreate all the Open-World and Cyberspace stages from Sonic Frontiers.. I am just a beginner in this and i have still have to learn a lot.. This is just a DEMO and the full version is in progress... For now i am focusing on remaking all the stages of the demo (including open-zone which took me 3-4 months to be done)... I am hoping to see you guys in the future update!

- Huge Open-World Stage for Exploration and stuff... -
srb20002.png

- There are 7 playable Cyber Space stages, All of them are Inspired by Sonic Frontiers -
(Few of them have different themes from the original game)

NOTE:
- All the Stages are Intended to be played as Modern Sonic! (Take this as the main point here..)
- Playing this in OpenGL is Highly Recommend! as the Software rendering may make everything to glitched out at certain stages..
- For those who suffer from lag in the open-zone, please use the minimum resolution for smooth experience, this point is specially for Potato-users! (Specially if you're using v2.2.14, i have tested this one in previous versions and it ran pretty well).
- There might be some small bugs or problems in the mod (which will eventually be fixed in future).

Do you know?
if you type "map 42" or "map kronos" in the console, you can access Kronos Island (which is unfinished atm lol but still explorable).

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! One of the few greatest map packs!
I neevr really liked frontiers, but now, seeing how much there is to DO, I might have to try it again to compare it to this!
I've completed Cyberspaces 1, 2, and 5 at the moment. I knwo what I'ma do TODAY!
The open zone IS big tho...

Its a decent pack, especially for your first (at least I assume its your first I didn't really check), though it has a lot of problems. For the cyberspace problems, my first one would be the over abundance of invisible walls. Seriously, for every decent shortcut there's an invisible wall: Time save by falling onto the springs? Invisible wall. Monitors extremely close to the path I'm on? Invisible wall. You see what I mean, and the last point transitions perfectly to my next criticism - the monitors / game-play in the distance are distracting. It really messes up the composition when there's game-play in the back of a level, yet you can't go there. I know they're there to spice things up, but it just messes up any resemblance of order. My fix would be to just remove any monitors/rings/end-goals etc. in the background to make it more clear where you're supposed to go, and if you really want them then just make it so you can actually go to them. Still in cyberspace, the level design is a bit boring: a lot of hallway design and just going straight with very little platforming and a lot of automation. and when it does have platforming/obstacles it's way enclosed to be fun due to the levels having so many background details. My tip? remove the background details for more space and add more platforming. There's also a weird cage part in the final cyberspace level where you're supposed to light speed dash, but it just kinda doesn't work.

Onto the open zone, and it isn't bad, but it's very lacking in some areas. For one, the open zone is way too samey - as everything uses pretty much the exact same textures, this makes it hard to tell where you are. While frontiers did also kinda have this problem, it fixed it by having significant landmarks in each splice of the map: like the tower, diamond thing, and Giganto fight in Kronos. This only has one landmark, so I'd add more. While it is somewhat fun to explore, I don't like how there is no reward aside from emeralds. I would put emblems all over the map as mini rewards, so the area is put to good use. I think the trees should be depleted, as it doesn't really look good when a bunch are in a concentrated amount too.

Overall, the maps are decent, but could use a few touch ups and tweaks to be the best it can.

Overall, a really solid addon, though the rails don't quite work (you can grind but can't really switch between rails and keep grinding) and yeah, the open zone is pretty laggy (some optimizations would be nice). Aside from that, a really cool mod. Looking forward to seeing what future updates bring

this is honestly pretty good! i love how large the open zone is and the cyber space levels are pretty solid!

but i feel like the optimization could be better in the open zone by removing some trees cause theres just alot of trees very close together in different styles which dont really mesh well and i think are the culprit for the lag since theres alot of objects. you could just pick one tree and if you're using UZB maybe make some of the trees random sizes to make it feel less repetitive if that was the reason there was so many different trees. and of course space them out instead of clumping them together. and different rock textures dotted around could help the look of the terrain and maybe better distinguish areas from each other to help exploration. and finally the cyber stages could be a bit wider, its a little too easy to boost off the edges.

but for a first mod this is pretty good! i wish you luck on the full thing and hope you take some of this feedback into account.

Should upgrade the high recommendation of OpenGL to OpenGL being the required setting at the moment. There are tricks you can learn to make this addon far more robust in the Software engine, but until then...

Most of the critique I have in mind has already been covered, I concur with the issue of finding all the shards at this point because I collected them thinking it was the key to unveiling certain content, only to get locked out of the hub (which I am guessing is due to the SOC for level selection not being set up).

I love the frontiers style of the levels and the island one thing is that there's a problem on mobile were if you look at the island it's starts lagging so much hope you can fix it so I can play properly

I can't even fully digest the mod due to the overworld making it hard to find the rest of the levels. You should really add a version for people that want JUST the levels. I had fun speedrunning the first stage as Modern Sonic tho. The overworld is too big for its own good. A huge problem is that it's so laggy. A certain lagkiller script does help a bit, but there's still a few hiccups. I'm sure there would be a huge lag reduction if there wasn't so much foliage spam.

Another big problem is that if you do decide to collect all the emerald shards, the game will mark your save file as not only completed, but also completely useless and actually unusable. Since the mod doesn't have level select data, the game says that there's no selectable levels, meaning you can't warp to any level, meaning your save file is essentially fucked. Cool. 2/5.
