Absolutely blown away. I had no expectations when playing this stage for the first time, so I was amazed to find out I just experienced one of the best 3D Sonic levels ever made.

There's so much freedom to explore at your own pace with so many routes to choose from. Which also doubles as a great incentive to try to stick to the fastest path for time attack. Boost momentum works really well here since the areas are wide open enough to accommodate for the speed. The pure scope and creativity on display is just so cool for what's meant to be a 3D recreation of angel island act 1. I've replayed this stage so many times I'm probably getting addicted to it by now lol.

You guys even managed to incorporate slopes consistently. Or at least a lot more then most SRB2 stages/mods do. Which makes boost mode feel a lot more versatile then usual. Tipping my imaginary hat to everyone involved. I eagerly await your team's next project. I'm sure it'll be even better.

This isn't at five stars yet? TREASON!
This is one of the best fucking levels I have ever played in my life! The hidden palace is a blast to find. Took me a fun while, and, frankly, visual-wise? I wasn't disappointed. This map is a masterpiece, and outshines most single level packs! This alone could be it's own game! Maybe an open world like Legend of Zelda! But it just feels so much more fun as a SRB2 level! I mean, we got custom enemies(Ones that take inspiration from the monkeys in Sonic 2), a mod to go with it(One that's amazing for characters like Junio Sonic, which makes me love this even more), and the fact that YOU CAN ACTUALLY RUN ACROSS FUCKING TREES! WE'VE NEEDED THAT FOR SO LONG!(And I'm not counting the running across the trunks, you'll know what I mean if ya played this.). All in all, I was blown away. This achieved what it was going for with absolute FLYING colors. I really do hope we can get more like this. Surprise me, friend!

This map is awesome. Using boost momentum with a map that takes advantage of it feels really good. You can make big jumps, run up slanted water falls, find secrets, and end it with a long dash to the finish. It even works amazingly with other momentum based mods, and even custom characters with built in dashmode or uncapped running speed. It helps that the graphics of this level are very pleasant.

I think this might be an oversight, but I really hope this doesn't get changed. This addon can be used as a NG+ for custom characters, and allows you to select any level in the base game after beating Nu Angel Island, which also makes this addon a great way of testing your newly downloaded character mod. It doesn't even replace any level in the level select, so this is another bonus level for your base game. You can even copy your "gamedata.dat" and rename to "nuangelisland.dat" to keep all of your emblem progress.

This addon is completely badass, and deserves a 5 star.

The people who say OpenGL is needed, you're an idiot bc u got 2d sprites. Like dang this is the best Angel Island that includes boosting. I use 2D sprite even though OpenGL is needed. Like, fudge that and go software mode. Anyways, this is a extremely good mod. (I wish that there were more Sonic 3 maps.) I like how the Hidden Palace is easily findable as Knuckles. The chaos emeralds are extremely ez to get. It's a Sonic 3 map. Yeah that's all I gotta say. The trailer was cool but the gameplay is better. Anyway 10/5.

This was truly one of the best maps I have ever downloaded. From barreling down the wide ocean to the textures and placements.

While this map is great and all (Which this isn't rated outstanding), It does need OpenGL for this to work, but I had a hard issue of having OpenGL. Has since it lagged way harder when I go on a server with this addon intacked, I even barely join servers with this addon. And it lags in Singleplayer, It only worked at some months, It then start to run down completely. I have not use it a long time, so I might not come back.

I have no idea what your problem is. The level has started running worse for you over time? I'm not sure how that could be the level's fault. I did also mention it runs best in OpenGL so if you know that OpenGL doesn't run well on your hardware, then why did you expect it to run better than it did for you?

I would give this a higher rating if it worked fine in software mode, but it doesn't. OpenGL is as flawless running as a f**king toaster on mobile, meaning this mod is literally unplayable on my end without running into some visual bugs.

There's nothing I can do to make it run better in Software mode without downgrading it significantly and I've stated it runs best in OpenGL. This was built as a higher-quality level with a lot more graphical detail. I'm sorry it can't run better for you on mobile but I don't see how that's an issue with the level when it's not been designed for that.

Prolly the most fun single level mod.

Really fun re-imagining of Angel Island Zone! I love how much variety there is, making each and every playthrough just a little bit different than the last. The fact that it's built around the Boostmentum mod makes it even better! What an incredible first level, really!

Oh my goodness, I swear I have never seen anything as good or as detailed as this, it needs an act 2.

This is a pretty good 3d recreation of angel island act 1 from sonic 3 and love the secrets would love to see more!

This has been the best map I've ever played so far throughout this year. it's rear to seeing slope mastery. I'm excited to see what more of these types of maps appear in the future. this map captures the classic vibe perfectly. lots of room to go fast at. and the platforming sections flow are near perfect. this is an absolute outstanding map, keep up the good work!

Bro I have never seen any level as good as this one from the ziplining to the huge map to run through with millions of routes to go through making it a bit different each time.

holy, I've see a lot of big maps but I have never seen one that was actually good, this map made my day because it avoids every single problem that I have with huge maps. You feel too slow when your running normally? The momentum mod recommended is peak as hell. You don't know where to go? There's arrows so you never feel lost. The map looks bland anyways? The visual flair here is so good that im surprised that its possible within srb2 builder, let alone the doom engine itself! Actually RUNNING towards the island itself instead of just spawning on to it, CUSTOM CODED S3K ENEMIES, ziplines and hang swings?? this has to be my favorite, no BEST MAP I've ever played in srb2 to this DAY. You sir did a amazing job on this, once im done writing this im going to look for all the secrets that I missed (only saw the zipline on my second knuckles playthrough) as tails. Thank you for this amazing 30 mins im going to spend on this map.

Thank you very much! Some of these ideas were Star's so you got her to thank for that too. :D
Glad you liked it alot, I was quite surprised at what I was able to pull off with Zone Builder graphically, but I can also see why other creators keep things looking a bit more simple lol.

Nicely done...it's interesting to see how Angel Island can be translated into 3d

Your adaptation uses a lot of slopes so it doesn't seem as talls as it might have if you had used sharp cliffs...though I get that that slopes are what you were going for

The "tree" has always been one of my favorite Sonic setpieces too and I am always happy to see it

Have you played Sonic Encore? There is a 3d Angel Island in that game that is similar to yours in some ways in that it is very momentum based

Interestingly they broke from the original made and the "tree" a downward section rather than an upward one

Thanks for the review! Glad you liked it. :D
Yes it's built around boostmentum so slopes are much in-line with how that mod plays, as they contribute a lot to building momentum. Verticality exists as high and low routes throughout the level, and the original level was more of a horizontal level anyway.
The tree at the end works as a test for boostmentum users as you can shoot up it at lightning-fast speeds if you if built up enough from the previous section and can control it well-enough while going up the spiral inside the tree; slower players will get slowed down by the spiral and so it incentivizes better handling of the boost from the mod.

A very fun take on Angel Island and works well with the kind of momentum the mod it is designed around provides. I myself do not have performance issues on my GTX 1060 6GB card though there are pauses as the shaders compile. Overall, no notable bugs with 2.2.11 RC1. Regarding the graphics itself, everything looks great with mip-mapping and anisotropic filtering enabled.

With all of the possible paths, I am starting to figure it will take a while to find all of the paths, but that is a good thing since it adds replayability. A good way for me at least to spend a rainy Mother's Day here in the middle of the US.

Great work overall. I hope this concept can be expanded to other Sonic 3&K acts, though I will let you decide on what is next.

Glad you liked it so much! Hope you can find all of the various routes and hidden paths, there's a big secret in there somewhere!
I'd love to continue on remaking the S3&K levels so we'll see how things go. :D

SRB2 could really take advantage of this type-of-stage built on Speed and Momentum on mind , however there are some problems related to this... :

Low End PC Users (including me) may suffer with endurace lag , which dastrically reduces the intended way to play the level with smooth framerate (i can run it on 15 to 30fps at least)

Open and Freedom like stages (imo) kinda makes the exploration and the replayabilty harder beacuse it's a "Gotta Go Fast" and searching secrets in every corner by each area takes longer due to the fact that the stage is really really big

Asides of that , i cant wait for NU Angel Island Act 2 , hopefully it will release on the futures versions of SRB2 (2.2.12 or higher) or as the creator said , when Zone Builder gets updated soon

Thank you so much for playing! Am glad you enjoyed it so much. :D
Regarding the lag, yea it's a bit of a detailed level, but I've been given advice to make it run smoother in Software mode, so perhaps that will fix or mitigate the issue.
The secrets are just there for a little bit of extra depth for people to explore if they feel like it. The majority of pathways are integral to the overall A-to-B design of the level, so it does heavily focus on finding the most optimal route. I just wanted to make something that had a unique experience for every type of player.
Yup I'm excited to get to work on an Act 2, so here's hoping!
