[TRAILER]
Made by the amazing Director Star. You gotta watch this.
[NOTES]
This level was designed around the Boostmentum mod by Star - please install it for the intended experience!
This looks best in OpenGL but has been updated to work better in Software mode.
[DESCRIPTION]
Presenting, Nu Angel Island Zone - Act 1
The introductory level of Sonic 3 re-created in full 3D! Run along the ocean to reach the fallen island, rush through its lush jungles, and zoom across its many rivers and waterfalls. Re-experience the level's iconic set-pieces as well as many new areas that interconnect with multiple pathways and routes. With classic Sonic level design in mind, you can stay on the top paths to beat the level in record time or slow down to explore the level's many hidden secrets. This is the definitive way to play Angel Island Act 1 and it's all right here in SRB2.
So, get your sneakers on and just speed right on through! Or just take your time and maybe you'll find some Hidden places to explore...
[3D Models]
Along with the level are some 3D models for the custom enemies and objects that I made which you can plug into your "models" folder. Just follow these instructions:
1. Make sure that your options in-game are set to render in OpenGL and that the Models option is enabled. General instructions on enabling 3D models can be found in the Forums.
2. Simply extract the contents of "models.zip" into your game's root directory (where your srb2whatever.exe is). This will place the "models" folder and the "models.dat" file in your game's root folder.
2a. If you already have a "models.dat" file then you can just copy the contents of the one I've supplied (by extracting it to another location and opening it in a Text Editor like Notepad) and paste it somewhere into your existing "models.dat" file. It shouldn't matter where you paste it into the file.
[MOD RECOMMENDATIONS]
• Boostmentum
This level is built around the Boostmentum mod by Star! Use your momentum to gain speed down slopes and maintain your boost with skillful platforming. Remember that this doesn't give you a boost on command, but rather that you earn it by keeping your movement without stopping. It is required for some water running segments so you won't get to experience all of the paths and routes without it. The level can still be played without it but it wouldn't be the intended experience.
If you're worried that the mod will interfere with other momentum mods in other levels, there are helpful console commands you can input to toggle it on/off in various capacities. Check the [COMMANDS] section of the mods page for more information.
The rest of the mods below are just for fun that I recommend trying out because they fit well with the style and atmosphere of the level:
• Footsteps
• ChrispyChars
[CREDITS]
Check out all of these really amazing creators that helped make this level possible:
• BIGDOG - The level creator.
• Star - Claims that she made the level. As if I haven't mentioned her enough in this description already; from making the Boostmentum mod that this level is built around, to the phenomenal trailer she made for the level with all of its stunt choreography... I can't possibly give her enough thanks. She also contributed a lot with the creative input and level design ideas as well as playtesting it and providing invaluable feedback. Thanks a million to the coolest Sonic fan I know, and my dear friend, for helping me make this level as amazing as it is.
• SRB2 Discord Community - At the points where I hit a brick wall, the community was ready to help swiftly with helpful solutions. Multiple people helped to the point that I can't name them all, but I immensely appreciate everyone that did. The community in general is pretty great, and I'm happy to be a part of it.
Here are the amazing music tracks that were used in the level:
•Savaged Regime - Angel Island (Present) remix
•Dr Reverbnik - Hidden Palace Classic (Sonic Generations Remix)
Note: The textures credited below have been modified from their original appearances.
•SEGA - The original Sonic 3 and Sonic Mania sprites for Angel Island Zone Act 1
•Grass Texture - Image by macrovector on Freepik
•Rock Top - Granite Surface by AntiD
•Wood Stump - Image from Freepik
•Wood Crack - Image by flatart on Freepik
If there's anyone or anything I've missed then please just let me know!
[COMMENTS]
So yeah, this is just a little something I made back in December-January as I learned Zone Builder along the way, so please forgive me for any rough edges that may appear. This was all planned out with sketches after Star and I thought SRB2 desperately needed an Angel Island remake before I decided to just learn Zone Builder and start zone building. I did plan on making the level a little bigger and with some different level design in some areas, however, I was getting a lot of level-breaking issues based on seemingly arbitrary sector placements, so I had to cut back in some areas and just call it a day. There were some solutions offered by the community, but none solved the issue so I had to cut out whatever was causing the level to break.
I'm not sure when or if I'll get around to making more levels, especially with the inconsistent problems that crop up. If certain issues get fixed, like the level breaking from arbitrary sector placements, then I'll be much more inclined in continuing. I'd love to do a follow-up Act 2, or even a full-game recreation given the free time, so we'll see how it all goes! I'd even love to expand upon this level by adding in some more of my original ideas.
Having said that, I'm very proud of what I'm sharing here with you today and if the existing feedback is anything to go by, you're all in for a very, very good time. So despite the setbacks, I'm still giving you all a level I'm happy for everyone to play.
Hope you all enjoy it! Please let me know about your experiences with it in the comments/reviews sections.
