Messed up some stuff with V4.6, so here's another update.

  • Kick decel has been buffed to function more as a spacing tool.
  • Reverted the springs sending Mario and Luigi into the Ground Pound Jump state.
  • Minor audio changes.
  • Enemies more smoothly transition into being punched or kicked. Mario and Luigi's bounce trajectory from this now considers the enemies' location.
  • Older versions of CustomHUD no longer produce errors.
  • Mario and Luigi can now perform their jump abilities when near walls.
  • Other minor bugfixes.
N64 Mario Bros.'s footsteps now allow levels to have custom entries.

Just type this in and use a value from the surfaces table in the footstep Lua and you're good to go.
Footstep Example:
if not N64FlatSounds
    rawset(_G, "N64FlatSounds", {})
end

N64FlatSounds["XXXXX"] = N64SurfacesTable.Concrete

  • Power meter heals the same way SM64 does.
  • N64 HUD more aggressively fights off the CustomHUD Library.
  • Buffed Mario's grounded Lunge Jump.
  • Beta styles has a new flame graphic.
  • Minor bugfixes.
Here's the last (hopefully) update to the N64 Mario Bros. before 2.3 unless a major issue I wasn't aware of shows up.

  • The Power Meter has been tweaked to move more like its original appearance. It also kicks in when in a Space Countdown sector.
  • Sound design changes. Certain sounds are clearer, higher quality, or are mixed with other sounds mostly because I think it sounded nicer. Some are also adjusted to mitigate clipping.
  • Some voiceclip changes for both Mario and Luigi.
  • The music made by Church of Kondo are using the FLAC versions.
  • Physics changes. Mario and Luigi lose 20% of their momentum when Single, Double, or Triple Jumping. Their Double and Triple Jump heights are buffed as well (they gave the same height as a Single Jump originally).
  • The Triple Jump criteria functions more like it does in SM64.
  • The Kick's air decel works in Simple mode as well.
  • Death animations are able to transition into each other and respond differently depending on the environment.
  • Mario can now Lunge Jump when crouching.
  • New taunts can be performed by holding both Weapon Next and Weapon Prev before Custom 2.
  • Sound captions have been truncated to be within the caption limit.
  • Minor code refactors.
  • Lots and lots of bugfixes and tweaks.
  • Proper GS rails support.
    • Mario and Luigi have slower Twist Drives and sidehops.
    • Luigi has higher launch power at the cost of stronger slope physics and an even slower Twist Drive.
  • Fixed a hiccup with the Power meter when taking damage at full health.
  • The timer now accounts for when a map has a countdown.
  • Better Power meter placement whenever the Custom HUD library's loaded.
  • The HUD (excluding the Power meter) properly disappears when in an OLDC hub.
  • The Ground Pound now has a proper hitbox to reduce clipping through monitors or Badniks.
  • Mario and Luigi produce more sounds when on or leaving Rollout Rocks.
  • More accurate checks for fire damage.
  • Crush damage recovery no longer sets the Mario Bros. into the idle state every tic.
  • Minor sound caption changes.
  • Fixed an animation error in which Mario or Luigi would remain in their burning animations while walking.
  • Fixed console errors being produced from switching to Mario or Luigi in Singleplayer.
  • Fixed the prone landing sound not playing when Mario or Luigi land in death, specifically landing on lava with low health.
I might make some changes to the overview page (mostly grammatical errors or other small things that bother me) so don't be too alarmed if it goes down.
Reuploaded the sound packs and updated the version number in the lua code.
There was an unused variable running in a global MobjThinker hook. Not sure what it was used for or even when it was written. It's gone now.
After 4 years in development, Green Mario has finally joined Mario in his quest!

  • Mario's skin name was updated to n64mario. Any and all progress you made with him will be lost with this update.
  • You can now play as Luigi! See the overview page for his moveset.
  • Fixed health desyncs for good hopefully.
  • Visuals and audio have been completely overhauled once again.
    • Mario's been completely rerendered with an updated model, adjusted animations, and more shading detail.
    • Higher quality sources have been used when available and Mario has voice clips for more actions.
    • The footstep system has been overhauled to cover additional scenarios, such as braking, sliding, and prone landings.
  • New music for game overs, 1UPS, and the continue screen, courtesy of RedVGM and daypeecone respectively.
  • Victory taunt voice clips in Ringslinger now play properly.
  • Taunts have been added. Press Custom 2 and Weapon Next or Weapon Prev.
  • Coins have been rerendered again.
  • VFX now account for antigrav.
  • Mario now has custom HUD.
  • The Ground Pound pushes Mario upwards before sending him down and is more stable overall.
  • The punch combo no longer centers the camera and the timing has been made more consistent, but stricter.
  • Being crushed cause damage more consistently and the softlock failsafe is more aggressive.
  • Better bubble check.
  • Coins spawned from enemies are guaranteed to count.
  • Mario now has animations for moving in quicksand.
  • Footstep sounds now supports most of, if not all, the vanilla game. It also has partial support of 2.2.14's Pipe Towers.
  • Fixed Mario softlocking himself when taking damage while watersliding.
  • Mario is no longer considered kicking when in the kick fall state.
  • Sweep Kick properly removes its flags when ended.
  • Sound captions have been adjusted.
  • New console command! Type 'n64altpref' 0, 1, or 2 to pick your alternate colors.
  • Wall kicks are more reliable in the Simple control style.
  • Invisible wall and incorrect wall kicking conditions behavior has been tweaked to be more clear and less intrusive.
  • Sprites for rail grinding have been added.
  • Many general QoL tweaks and bugfixes.

This will be the final planned major update for the N64 Mario Bros. Any updates from this point forward will be bugfixes.

To celebrate Luigi's arrival, there are not 1, but 2 sound packs to play with, each with server-friendly and singleplayer variants!
For those who want Luigi's voice to be Mario's but higher pitched, get the Smash 64 sound packs. The singleplayer variant gives him his Smash 64 palette.
For those nostalgic for Mario 64's beta, check out the beta sound packs. The singleplayer variant replaces the coins, courtesy of Oreo, and the hud, recreated by Emily/Inky, K-Dubs, Original Chris, 1UP Guy and Diamond Hero.

To everyone who supported this mod for 4 years, thank you!
The code that calls for Mario's unique waterslide animation was being applied to every character. Oops.
Here's a small interim update to play with as I've been tinkering with this mod a lot after making the Ring Racers N64 Promo Bros. mod.

  • Redone crouch sliding to be drawangle-dependent.
  • Fixed the Slide Kick and Crouch conflicting with pain states.
  • Reordered the code to overall be more efficient in terms of hooks. The Triple Jump counter has been made more lenient to account for this.
  • Mario's victory theme now plays when he fails to reach the ground.
  • The Ground Pound Jump's timing has been made more lenient.
  • New sprites for the heart, coins, 1UP, Power Star, and Power meter.
  • .WAV files are replaced with .OGG files for the sake of filesize, neatness, and consistency. Some audio tweaks were made as well.
  • The Ground Pound no longer jolts him closer to the ceiling in antigrav.
  • Mario's NiGHTS mode checks are more accurate, so he'll no longer think he's in NiGHTS mode when in Multiplayer Special Stages.
  • Mario's ring checks are more accurate, so any ring source will heal him accordingly. The old check is still used for when the ring counter's maxed out.
  • Coins spawned from enemies have bigger hitboxes to prevent their collections not counting. They will also always play the 64 coin sound regardless of character skin.
  • Mario now has a pushing animation.
  • Mario's crawling animation now speeds up or slows down depending on his speed. It was also given footstep support.
  • Mario no longer locks up when cancelling a swim while swim drilling.
  • Carry states properly reset Mario, so he'll face the correct angle when jumping and can Lunge in scenarios he previously couldn't.
  • Metal Mario has a buffed Ground Pound that can kill enemies and destroy spikes with the shockwave.
  • Console commands have been reverted and made admin-exclusive to prevent resyncs in netgames.
  • A new animation system has been implemented. It's only used for the Side Somersault at the moment, but it'll be used for any custom states Mario has to shave off freeslots.
  • Health system has been tweaked to prevent desyncs.
  • Mario descends faster after Ground Pounding through a breakable floor.
  • Mario's sounds now have proper captions.
  • Mario's preferred opposite colors have been changed for the signpost and CSS.
  • Invincible Mario is no longer affected by colormaps. The sparkles he emits are adjusted to reflect how he doesn't react to lighting.
  • Axis2D support has been completely dropped, due to remaining in a broken state as of this update.
  • General QoL tweaks and bugfixes.

Due to life obligations, progress on Luigi has been on hold during the development of this update. Sorry for saying this update will include him.
If for whatever reason, V3.4 ends up being the final update, it's been a fun time.
