Okay, since I didn't explain my review, as I was excited about Ray finally coming to v2.2, I may as well put my thoughts into this rating. I know that the original review of mine will be removed. Hopefully, this will make sense, as my thoughts on this review will be interesting.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Spritework-

Honestly, this is some really good spritework. I think the team did a great job on what he looks like. He has his waiting animation from Mania, he has his glide and climb animations. And they really feels like v2.2's sprites, this is just like how they did it with The Chaotix mod. And his personally feels so fun and joyful and expressive. This just shows to go that, sometimes. You just have to respect a artist doings, and if you don't. You're just gonna ruin there hobby of becoming an artist.

-Moveset-

I'm not too sure about his moveset, because (if it's just me or anyone) the glide feels really weird. I know, there trying to make this accurate as possible to it's source material. But, it feels off to have w and s be his gliding controls. And since this game is 3D instead of 2D, this makes it hard to keep him going, this doesn't happen with Mania, as it's a 2D space. And his gliding controls work well in 2D, but when it comes to 3D, it's hard to script his gliding ability. Anyway, this drops the review to 4 stars.

-Battlemod-

I guess his moveset for battlemod is good, but idk because I don't play battlemod. I guess I'll keep it 4 stars, as idk honestly.

-Conclusion-

Ray seems to be fun and silly character, he's really a great character to have in SRB2, I just think Ray's gliding ability is just rusty and clunky to control with, but it's great work overall! Hopefully in the future, we'll get to see more mods like this! (I swear that is gonna be a lie, because there is already mods that SOMEHOW got in, just to have the baddest ratings ever)

Great addon with a LOT of effort put in! The visual effects are great and I like the sprites and the designs too! And... Mindscape aswell and Ultimate Inazuma (my favorite part of the mod). Great job!!

our favorite yellow flying squirrel, back in action and right at home!
his glide is SUPER fun, lemme tell ya, and with the proper technique (going back down before you finish turning up to make speed loss NOT happen and going up happen) gliding is the most versatile movement option the little critter has!!! his wall cling is also quite good, if a bit situational (at least, it feels like it to me idk) 10/10, would (and will) play again

It is a very stellar showing of a Ray mod in SRB2. The sprites themselves are colourfully expressive and his abilities complement the design of the game pretty well...

...I WILL say though that Ray's gliding does feel off compared to other games this moveset has appeared in. Particularly there seems to be stuff put into the gliding that are meant to limit him much more than how he is in other games like Mania or the S3 AIR mod of him. These mainly apply with him swinging upwards where he loses speed and can only do so (from what I counted) 5 times.

It's kinda odd when the Mario mod pack with the Cape power works near 1 to 1 and doesn't have this limit, nor does the previous SegaSonic Ray character mod, whether or not you feel the comparison is cheap of worth considering is up for personal preference though.

it’s great but i suck at gliding.
i think it’s mainly because holding the backwards key actually makes you lose speed.
in mania, ray could keep a constant speed while gliding, and for me, holding w and s just feels a bit weird.

besides that, i absolutely love it, and the wall cling is actually pretty useful if you know what you’re doing.

cannot explain how fun this is oh my god!! just soaring around was awesome, not to mention all the new acz skips ray can do. the gliding was already good in other places, but the air boost makes it better, also the wall clinging can be useful and if you don't want it you just hold spin while gliding that's it
looking forward to more semi-obscure characters from you guys in the future!

Love ya boy Ray, was waiting on him to his update. And a battlemod compatibility, sweet
2 nitpicks though, is there a toggle to make him turn left and right in glide, with the camera? or does it have to be left and right input? Cause the camera left and right option would be nice.
Second thing, the wall cling.... can that be held instead of be a toggle?
Besides that amazing mod usual, cant wait to see what come later
(also why not add him into the chaotix as an honorary member, maybe by Mighty)

Took a while to even realize the glide diminished but once I did and adjusted to factor in landings Ray got way more fun.

The wall cling felt a little useless at first, especially in comparison to Mighty's but it's quite useful for getting that last bit of height you need to reach higher ledges in cramped places.

Kind of wish that the glide would work out of springs but other than that, I don't really have any complaints.

This is up there as one of the best mods for just whooshing through a level at top speed.

I enjoy the Sprite work very much, wouldn't be a character I would enjoy playing regularly or not even at all. I am not one to be dishonest with myself nor when I try to push feedback. It lacks comfort and it would perhaps deserve some QOL additions.

While I see quite quality work put there, it doesn't necessarily feel great in the air. I understand I am an oddity and a minority since I am playing with only a keyboard but Ray feels heavy to steer the jaw rotation, simply it is slower than I think would be comfortable.

There are definitely two odd additions in play a bit noisy element is the speed lines, while they give a sense of speed, they literally fly into your face. So I would recommend either making them translucent enough or not having them at all.

Instead of wall clinging (2nd oddity) I would really focus on making touching walls more forgiving, mere touch of corner can cancel out flight. While that's a thing even on the ground, at least you can be sure you are on the ground while in the air you are running into the risk of falling into the pit. And in cases of corners, the clinging function won't even run.

Maybe that isn't your fault and perhaps it already was fixed, but in my current next build of SRB2, Ray defaults to SKINCOLOR_BLUE.

I would like to say something more positive to end this quite negative feedback sandwich, but I don't want to delve into specifics of how good Ray sprites are. However, I can appreciate how Ray is vanilla-styled, I think that deserves a mention.

I've nothing to add to MK's review, but wall climbing feels completely useless and unnecessary (like Mighty's) and this character is still unplayable with automatic play style.

and yes, he has become much weaker and they are now much less interested in playing. I'm upset because this is my favorite character in sonic mania and I want to have fun, which I don't get from this character. definitely needs a buff or rework

It's everything I ever wanted out of a Ray mod, and it's made by the Chads known as Team Combi-Rings themselves! Ray's gliding definitely takes a while to get used to, as pulling up from Ray's glide doesn't always guarantee you getting extra height like SMW's Cape Feather mechanics, but I think that helps it not bust maps wide open. Ray is so expressive and adorable, and I was squealing with delight with every action. Bravo! This was an absolute delight of a surprise!

Sprites are the shining glory here. They look great and 10,000x better than the sega sonic sprite rips from 2.1 ray.

But the gameplay is almost identical to his 2.1 counterpart with balance adjustments and the additions of wall cling and the flutter(?). Once you lock the rhythm down, you can make great distances.

The new additions help make it feel slightly new but its functionally the same ray, thats ok.

I really like that you need to get a good run up or have some altitude to work with for the ability to be effective. The rewards aren't free, but it only takes a little bit of effort to perform some very satisfying movement. Definitely the most fun I've had playing the vanilla campaign in a LONG time. The sprites are also rock-solid, consistent, and have heaps of character.
