INFINITE
"Give into your fear. Flee, screaming, and I'll let you live."
The former "ultimate mercenary" turned wielder of the Phantom Ruby's power of virtual reality,
Infinite's brutality turns his enemies into stepping stones on his way to the top! While he does struggle a bit with verticality, a skilled player can use his moveset to blaze through levels, particularly those where Eggman's troops are abundant.

ABILITY: Hover Dash
Infinite's most fundamental move, the Hover Dash, acts as a sort of compromise between a dash move (like Sonic's Speed Thok) and a hovering move (like Knuckles' glide or Metal Sonic's hover). Press and hold Jump after jumping, and Infinite will begin hovering forward and picking up speed, breaking any spikes or fragile walls in his way. After a few seconds, he'll begin to droop down and eventually fall. While you can't directly control Infinite's direction during a Hover Dash, you can use your directional inputs to steer him left and right. Hold forward to charge ahead faster, or pull back to turn more sharply. If you run into a wall while using the Hover Dash, you'll slam into it and bounce off. If you're not being careful, this can be an issue, but if you pull back before hitting a wall, you'll bounce off much more gracefully, hopping off of the wall and gaining more height in the process.
While using the Hover Dash, you may notice targeting reticles appearing above enemies. If you press Spin when one appears (or just hold Spin to attack the first thing you come across), you'll perform a...
ABILITY: Homing Snap
An extension of the Hover Dash, the Homing Snap is Infinite's most powerful combat ability. Infinite teleports to the nearest target, delivering a kick to the back of their head. From there, he'll go flying off in a direction influenced by the direction you're holding when you execute the move. Hold forward for a burst of speed, or hold backwards to hop back, putting yourself into prime position for another hit on a boss or durable enemy. Infinite can also use this ability to boost off of springs.ABILITY: Tidal Wave
Press Spin while on the ground, and Infinite will harness his ability to form harmful blocks of illusory energy into various shapes. He'll snap his finger at the ground, causing a wave of phantom energy to shoot up from the ground, travelling forward. Any speed Infinite has will be transferred into this projectile. The wave will also home in on any grounded opponents. Additionally, this wave puts stress on the ground beneath it, which can cause fragile floors to crumble.infinitevox - Can be set to On, Off, or Some. Defaults to On. Determines whether or not Infinite will play voice lines. Setting this to Some will play short grunt clips when doing things like attacking or getting hit, but remove the longer voice clips when doing things like clearing levels or encountering bosses. Some say there's a secret, fourth option - one that may enable silliness undreamt of, if you can tolerate the noise...
Voice Lines: And lots of 'em! Infinite has plenty to say. Use the above console variable to decrease them or turn them off, if his blabbing gets to be a bit too much for you.
Extra Animations: Infinite has a unique animation for clearing a stage, as well as a taunt that can be performed with the Toss Flag key. Be careful, though - this taunt is committal, meaning you'll be locked out of moving for a bit when you use it! Maybe don't taunt in dangerous situations... or do, if you're feeling cocky.
Overclocked Form: One would think the Phantom Ruby and Chaos Emeralds wouldn't quite get along, but if you collect all 7 emeralds, get 50 rings, and press Custom 1 in the air, you'll find just the opposite - Infinite will go Overclocked, a state much like Super Sonic, but using phantom energy instead, complete with its own unique music!
On top of the usual benefits, Infinite will see some improvements to his moveset, as well as some other passive benefits, such as unlimited air. For one, his Hover Dash will extend infinitely, keep its speed when released, and can be stopped and started as many times as you like in the air, even if you hit a wall. Additionally, the Homing Snap will target from much further away.
Infinite will also gain 2 rings every time he successfully hits an enemy, and he passively attracts extra rings from nearby. He'll need those extra rings, though - in exchange for power beyond the Chaos Emeralds' usual abilities, Overclocked Infinite consumes rings twice as fast as Super Sonic.
Battlemod Support: Infinite has always been at home on the battlefield, so of course SRB2 Battle is no exception! For one, he's nerfed in a few ways - he can't use his Homing Snap on players, and he'll get tired if he tries to spam Tidal Waves. Projectile spam is no fun, and neither are unavoidable attacks. In exchange, though, Infinite gets an ability that makes a big impact: the ability to summon Phantom Sentries!
Press Fire, and Infinite will summon an effigy of the Phantom Ruby. If this sentry spots a foe, it'll rev up for a few seconds as it prepares to fire. It takes 2 hits from an opponent to go down, or 30 seconds to disperse on its own. Use it to catch people off guard, or distract them to give yourself an opening to attack head-on!

This mod has been in the works for, quite frankly, a ridiculous amount of time. Windows places the file's initial creation around October of 2023. The third ever post I made on the MB was a few observations I gathered while working on an earlier iteration of this mod - one that, funnily enough, may have looked closer to Sophia the Crawla Commando than what I wound up with, had I not gone back and rethought his design.
I had initially wanted to release this mod with the 2024 SRB2 mod direct, but, to my knowledge, that just kind of never happened. So I kept holding onto it, improving it little by little over time, including a full resprite (which took about a week, rather than the months it would have taken to do it by hand rather than prerenders), until eventually I wound up with what I have now.
I've still been tweaking it, even up to the day before writing this, so despite this long development cycle, I may still go in and update him a bit more at some point - as an artist and a programmer, I'm well aware that my work is never done. Either way, though, I'm glad to finally get my longest-running SRB2 project out into the world (although, another project I've teased being in the works is a pretty close runner-up, and may very well overtake Infinite...)
Working on Infinite has been a part of my SRB2 modding journey practically since the start, and it's been a joy the whole time. I don't think it's a stretch to say that the release of this mod marks the end of a chapter for me. Here's to hoping the chapter that follows is a good one, eh?
