"Our three very unexpected heroes managed to bring the Dark Stone back to Dragonspiral Tower after a long journey in the Greenflower Region and managed to awaken the legendary dragon Zekrom within the stone. Unexpectedly in return he lent over some of his power to the trio!?"
This addon consists of three of my absolute favorite characters from various franchises, with each having different playstyles to get through each zone. Which one will you be playing as throughout their second journey in the Greenflower Region? The Tiny, The Cheater, or The Speedrunner?
These aren't your average characters you'd see in their respective origins. Find out below!
Pokémon Gold and Silver (1999)
"Out of all Pokémon, you wouldn't expect a Spinarak to be responsible for saving Unova from being taken over multiple times, now he has a whole region to revisit."
Spinarak is the smallest amongst the trio, he can easily fit gaps that normally require a spindash to get through. His Lunge and Toxic Thread abilities make him an ideal choice for those who are just getting started with custom characters! Going up steep slopes will be a tough challenge for him though.
Lunge: Press jump midair to preform a secondary jump. This jump may make you fall slightly faster but you are able to break bustable floors and walls with it! This jump can also make you cling onto walls and climb them but not for long though...
Spinarak can only cling up to 5 seconds before being forced to let go. However, the countdown restarts when clinging onto another wall. While either Super or playing Tag/Hide and Seek, there is no time limit on how long you can climb.
Toxic Thread: Press spin to fire off an explosive web from where you're facing that damages enemies caught in it. Alternatively if there's no target, the web can instead used as a spring once it's dried out, allowing usage of Jump abilities when sprung on as well! It could also be used as a trap against enemies that happen to walk into it! Dried out webs will despawn after 10 seconds of no interaction from any players.
You can also spin these webs while midair! These webs will dry out even faster to safely use as springs!
Battle for BFDI (2017)
"Stapy came into this world from a space-time anomaly during the Yoylite Incident, and now he's here to accompany Spinarak in his journeys. He has no need to be apart of a competition anymore."
Stapy plays a lot differently than the rest of the cast. He may be the slowest among the trio but he has the strongest jump amongst them! Stapy can cheat through most portions of some zones thanks to his Stapler Gun ability, but obstacles that require quick speed (like Egg Rock Zone 1's crushers) are gonna be a huge challenge for him.
Stapler Gun: While midair or during a Long Jump, press jump to shoot staples from above and hover! While there's no duration of how long this ability can be used midair, you'll have to mash jump to keep up! His ascent is not really good, but if you collect 25 rings or more his ascent will increase and make it easier to reach high places!
Fastfall: While in the air, press spin to swiftly fall down onto the ground and easily break bustable floors! You can also bounce off of enemies and monitors really high with this attack if you land on them! Try hitting a spring with this attack and you'll spring up way higher than expected but won't be able to continue your current fastfall combo afterwards!
Long Jump: While Stapy normally jumps high. he can also make a low yet faster jump with the spin button! Best used against high speed obstacles. Stapy's long jumps can also break bustable walls and floors. This is Stapy's fastest way of travel.
Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)
"A badnik that gained sentience and turned over a new leaf!? Now re-programmed to defeat Eggman once and for all after being transported here during the Yoylite Incident. Though, he was responsible for taking the wrong turn into the Greenflower Region in the first place... He really doesn't remember his past before the incident but he really loves to race!"
Motobug relies on his heavily upgraded wheel to zoom through the zones, making him the fastest amongst the trio and has the strongest spindash capabilities yet! However due to entirely relying on speed and lacking any ranged attacks, Motobug finds it the most difficult to deal against bosses.
Drop Dash+: Press jump midair to instantly charge up a spindash that releases upon hitting the ground while gaining a tiny boost midair. Repeated usage can give even more momentum! This move can also be cancelled by pressing spin midair.
Unlike other spindashers, Motobug instantly regains control to his mobility by simply just jumping. If you drop dash directly onto a spring, your spindash charge will become even stronger and you can even release it early midair!
Rocket Boost: Hold Jump midair to charge up a second jump and let go to release the boost! It charges up pretty quickly so time your best boosts! Additionally, charging up this move while in Boost Mode can almost instantly fully charge it! Charging does not slow your fall and landing mid-charge will cancel it so be careful!
Just like all other badniks, Motobug will release a Flicky when he dies, or sometimes a Pocky in multiplayer. This is intended to not work when drowning, avoid reporting that as an issue.
dsh_darkstonepowers Default: OffCan be toggled back On for those who are interested with the AU. Beware that some may find this ability out of character, too overpowered, etc. Turn it on at your own risk!
Spinarak, Stapy, and Motobug cannot go Super normally but if
dsh_darkstonepowers is toggled On, all three can go Super and utilize the Fusion Bolt attack (and a little surprise Zekrom cameo in their transformation sequences while Spinarak gets the full cameo since they're both from the same franchise, still no alternate super sprites for these guys). When enabled, All regular character jump spin abilities are disabled and instead replaced with the Fusion Bolt attack while Super. (This may get out of character from beyond this point)
Press Spin midair to become one with a massive ball of electricity and charge up the attack! Hold Spin to ascend upwards and fly to your heart's content! This will only work if you haven't used your primary ability after jumping.
While flying midair, Press Jump to divebomb and quickly unleash the devastating attack that damages anything in a rather large radius! This attack also goes off automatically you make contact with the ground even without divebombing. You may slightly bounce off of enemies and monitors if you end up landing directly onto them though.
In Multiplayer (either Splitscreen or Netgames), the electricity will be changed to match your original color to distinguish others using the same attack, otherwise it'll always be yellow in Singleplayer.
- Only the full pack is available for download, I do not plan to add or distribute any individual versions of these characters at all. However, older versions with only a lualess Spinarak are still available in the history tab if you're only interested in him.
- Motobug's internal name is actually
moto-bug to avoid conflict with an already existing playable Motobug addon. Keep that in mind just incase if you plan to make an external addon that intends to be compatible with this pack.- Feedback is heavily appreciated and can really help me with what I plan to add or change in later updates for this pack! Feel free to report any issues you find within the pack since those also help a lot!
- For the Super Attack, I was originally gonna refer it as "Bolt Strike" but some players (like me most of the time) might end up flying in the air the entire level without even trying to release the attack, so I instead referred it as the other signature attack "Fusion Bolt". It was a really hard decision for me on what to name it either between these two. I had this whole thing in mind first when I was first planning the update.
Currently cannot fix these as of my current knowledge on lua, avoid reporting these issues when sending feedback!
- Spinarak may "glide" if rubbing against a wall, or has to press jump twice in order to jump again afterwards.
- Additionally, Spinarak may attempt to spin a web when pressing Spin while clinging onto a wall. Though this could just be something the vanilla climbing ability usually does.
- Demo replays will likely desync when using one of the characters' abilities.
- Switching to Spectator mode won't play any custom death animations.
- In some occasions while taking damage as Motobug during his Rocket Boost state, his pain sprites may not show up.
- In external levels or gametypes that disable vanilla abilities, all three characters may still be able to use them regardless...
