SRB2 Heroes (Real superpower of TEAMWORK!)

STHE123O

Little Monster
Here it is! Version 3 (more like an update to version 2) of my Sonic Heroes level pack. Team mechanics implemented like in the real Heroes game. There is a total of 34 emblems to find. Each level is a combination of act 1 and 2 from the original game. The Chaos Emeralds are hidden in the levels, think you can find them all?

Zones are:
Sea Gate
Seaside Palace
Power Metropolis
Casino Highway
Rail Station
Frog Jungle
Mystic Castle
Egg Fortress
Metal Sonic race
Metal Sonic boss

Characters by: Lat (Tails), Speedwagon (Shadow), Chrispy (Rouge), .Luke (Amy), D00D64 (Cream), CZ64 (Team Chaotix) and me (Omega, Big).
Sonic Heroes logos in the HUD by Lat

Thanks to:
Zipper, for converting and looping all the music.
MotdSpork, for the original team codes for version 2.
Monster Iestyn, for the LUA code to change skybox in game.
Tripel the fox, for the Team mechanics LUA codes for version 3.

I tried my best with this wad and I really hope it is a fun experience to all of you. It is far from perfect, but be sure to check it out and enjoy it!

Important:
- Spindash button is for Lightdash (Sonic and Shadow only)
- Custom Action 2 and 3 are for changing characters.
- Big wad is from my SADX mod, so he is kinda outdated.
- Omega wad was made by me for this mod. He is not the best but its the best I can do at the moment. At least there is an Omega wad now.
- Use command "resetcolors" to change colors in Multiplayer depending on the team you are playing as.

I must say I absolutely love Sonic Heroes, and this level pack really made me wanna play Heroes again, you nailed the level design and gimmicks. I can't wait 'till the team mechanics are implimented!

It lags a bit in certain areas of later stages like Casino Highway, Rail Station and Frog Jungle, but that's to be expected since these maps are so big. Other than that, I love it!

I'm really happy how this turned out, with the alternative paths, some of the gimmicks introduced (the hang glider B.A.S.H's was neat) and the over all level design. though, annoying in some areas (the lasers in egg fortress above bottomless pits T_T)
Another thing that bothered me at first was the metal sonic race. Metal Sonic seems faster than he should be, or maybe I'm rusty at the game. but i could barely beat it with Sonic. not sure how Knuckles and Tails will handle against Metal.

I can't wait for future updates on this level pack and i wish you luck.

Thank you! And Metal Sonic is as fast as Sonic. After a few tries you should have no problems in beating him. The speed thok helps a lot. Oh and Tails and Knuckles can actually fly all over the level so... the race is not a problem for them :P

Alright, I've played through (almost) all of this, and I admit, it was fun! You captured that heroes aesthetic approach with the textures, while still leaving it classic enough to not look TOO alien to SRB2. I'm not going to go into an in-depth review since that'd take forever, but I want to share my few gripes with this:

-Most of your gimmicks start out as punishing.

You used pits over gimmicks VERY liberally and frankly it got annoying after I accidentally pressed left at an automatic rail and fell to my death for the 3rd time. A few example of this would be : The first dice platforms in Casino Highway( which shouldn't be a problem since hey, it's just a vertical platform, right? except that jump is...a little too tight), almost ALL the automated rails after Rail Station, the falling platforms and the rails you have to JUMP OVER in Egg Fortress, etc. I'm sure you can figure out what kills you instantly. You should give the player SOME leeway to move with error.

(also rails killing you if you move is stupid overall, just make them zoomtubes or something)

-Some gimmicks are not introduced at all

This mostly goes for the last 2 zones, but; Mystic Castle's "breakable walls with the fan area" left me stumped for a good 3 minutes, and I only proceeded because I remembered that the original level had that exact same gimmick. This is because the walls blend in SO BAD, I actually had to actively hunt for black dents in walls. Either make it more obvious, or...yeah just make it more obvious.

Same goes for the falling platforms in the Final Fortress portion. They fell much more slowly and gave you an easier time in the original. Here? You BETTER know they're going to fall, because those are the platforms you'll land on 15 seconds into the area! You can make them slowly descend I guess, just use a "move floor/ceiling by linedef" trigger.

-The bosses suck.

It's not your fault, but they're unfitting. Not that there's anything to do about it.

-The last levels...killed me?

I don't know what bizarro bug I encountered, but the Metal Sonic race just kills me around the 1:20 marker, on some grey platform outside. I can't exactly tell where it is, but it's the exact same place everytime. And I know it can't be Metal Sonic, because if that was the case he'd have a countdown first...right?

Aaaaanyway, what might look like a dumb wall of text is actually a few nitpicks you can fix in no time, so don't worry. I might get around to writing reviews for each level sometime in the far future. Still a great WAD!

(also egg fortress' songs don't loop properly you said they were perfect what the hell)

Thanks for the review! And about the rails... yeah, I knew they would be a problem. Guess I ll have to add platforms under them so you wont die if you fall off.

In the Metal Sonic race you die at 1:20 because thats when Metal reach the finish line. I should try to add the countdown or either put an extra life at the beggining of the level.

And I thought Egg Fortress music looped right? Will check it out again...

So, I think you may have messed up on Rail Station. Early on, there's a big room you're supposed to jump into the middle of to proceed, but jumping there just gets me killed. Over and over.

Were you playing as Sonic and Tails? Because thats listed on the problems in the first post. Dont know why that happens...

Can you please tell me what the deal with Metal Sonic and the Chaos Emerald is in Mystic Castle? I can not for the life of me figure it out. I tried jumping on everything in the other rooms, tried collecting all the rings, collecting all the eggman monitors, breaking the walls, steping on only the ring areas, stepping on only the eggman monitor areas, NOTHING WORKED. It got so bad that I looked in devmode and since the map feature is broken for some reason in this version.I decided to look at the map in slade, which again, revealed nothing. I objectplaced my way through and took it by force it was so bad.

Please add some sort of hint and make it a little more obvious, and maybe tell me what to do in a spoiler because I'm legitimately curious what you are requesting and expecting the player to do here.

I sent you a PM about it...

The cannon at the very end of Rail Station doesn't send me far enough to land on the exit platform, so I always fall into the pit and die.

To Puppyfaic: Weird... every time I play as Sonic solo in either Single-player or multiplayer it works fine...

To 742mph: Try not to move before taking the Cannon. If you passed the first one then the second one should work well

The cannons were a bit buggy for me, too, but I know why. I was using lua_playershadows, which for some reason made the cannon loader move upwards a lot faster and crush me. But when I wasn't playing with it the cannons worked fine. On another note, I love the use of rails!

I made the elevators before the cannyons slower, and I think it works fine now :) Link updated in the first post.

hang glider B.A.S.H

I was definitely not a fan of how these gliders were introduced myself; I had completely forgotten how to control them since Great Divide last used it. It took a while of fumbling and crashing into a couple of walls to remember to use the up and down arrow keys to rise and descend. I think if they were introduced in a safer and less obstructed area, newer players wouldn't have to struggle with them as much.

I really like this pack regardless, especially concerning the amount of detail put into making each level fit the original theme Heroes portrayed. When I played through Casino Highway the first time it really felt like a casino level in SRB2, what with all the flashing neon buildings and trees everywhere. All the different and unique textures really help make this happen and you really went the extra mile in that department. Kudos!

I had to give up at Mystic Castle. The part with the looping hallway and Metal Sonic gave no clear answer of what to do. There was no way to progress.
