When a spin character jumps into a space they could fit into while spinning, and that space involves a moving FOF, they get crushed instead of going into roll state, even if the FOF is widening the gap.
My best guess for this is that you entered the roll and went under the FOF, but then hitting the top of the FOF caused you to lose all of your momentum and exit your roll. When this happened, your height was too short for the moving FOF. Normally, the game would have taken you back into a roll, but since the FOF was moving, the game mistook it for a crusher and killed you.
