SonicHeroX45's Development Thread

I'd rather choose not to have a double feature, because I more-or-less expect more quality over quantity for this project.
I'm not intending to sacrifice anything for said "double feature", it would just result in a longer wait for the next demo. I don't have any release dates planned that I would need to rush for other than of course, When It's Done.™ :3

I'm still alive lol. Mainly focused on OLDC stuff and preparing to move to my new apartment! After this round, I'll head back to Sonic into Dreams to finish the Side A Demo before the next OLDC! I like the OLDC. :3

Today is that day. I'm heading to my new apartment! Hoping it goes smoothly and quickly. See y'all later!

I had a strange dream last night. I was at an amusement park, high in the sky. There was no name for it that I remember, but it was quite the spectacle. The strange part... Is that I was an action figure. I could move freely, but I never felt fatigued or hungry due to this state. There was a woman there who I recognized from a previous dream. She was quite tall, with orange hair and blue eyes. She insisted there was something I had to see, and directed me to a booth behind the entrance. It was the operations for the entire amusement park, but something was off. She vanished as I entered the place, and there was a robotic monstrosity messing with everything. I had to fight it off with this action figure body, but I was successful, and it felt great. The woman appears again, thanking me for what I have done, but I'm not sure WHAT I did. The rest of the time at the park goes well, and I think she's taken a liking to my odd state. As I attempt to leave the park, she brings up that she can't leave the park herself, and I question why. She's being very vague, and I think I know why. She's a spirit of some sorts with unfinished business at this amusement park high in the sky. I offered to stay and get her out of this mess, and she's clearly excited about the offer. I head back into the park with her, and the dream ends.

Some explanation for that last post, since I feel it's needed as well as some other miscellaneous things. I feel like documenting interesting dreams and other experiences that I have as it could prove quite useful later if I want some story material to work with. Why here? No real reason other than it might be interesting to those who actually check this silly thread regularly. I've translated my own past experiences to my works, be it dreams or reality (most relevant here is Flowing Forest from the last Sonic into Dreams demo, which is based off of an actual dream I had a while back). Considering my current focus is Sonic into Dreams, a NiGHTS Mode Campaign based around well, dreams, I figured it would be fitting to have some stuff based off of my own dreams! On another note, took a small break from the levels (that SURELY won't cost me later) to work on the overarching story for the mod, and I got the Disclaimer + Story Intro, as well as the cutscenes for The Dream Gate and Midnight Meadow Act One done. Be prepared for some weird shit.

I was looking through my mess of files on my computer, and I came across a very interesting file: Version One of Holiday Heroes (Version Two is Heroes and Saviors, which is currently in development alongside Sonic into Dreams and Lucas the Tiger)!
Looking over it, it appears to have been a half-assed remaster of the original Halloween and Christmas Tech Demos for Sonic Robo Blast 2. It's never been released here on the Message Board, probably because I knew it'd get rejected (looking again, it infact has been, multiple times). While the WAD (yeah, it's a WAD) is pretty lackluster, there's some original content there. Most notably what looks like a Last Story where you deal with Metal Robotnik who has relaunched the Ring Satellite from the first Sonic Robo Blast.
There's also some thrown together extra stages for the Halloween and Christmas stuff. Halloween getting a 2D Stage, what looks like an enemy rush with button hunting, and three extra bosses while Christmas got an Emerald Hunt and another boss.
I'm thinking of remaking this with better quality and adding it to Heroes and Saviors as a neat little extra with the working titles of Holiday Heroes and Seasonal Saviors (Version One name and original Version Two name), Heroes and Saviors Plus Holiday Heroes (current title and Version One name), or Seasonal Saviors (the original Version Two name)! What do you guys think?

P.S. I MIGHT have ADHD.

P.P.S. I should probably go back to the older posts (like page one old) and update them.

P.P.P.S. This is getting ridiculous. Anyways, do y'all remember the "Audio Transmission Logs" from the Holiday Heroes days? I've been thinking about them.

P.P.P.P.S. Neat thing: I was able to recover almost everything from the Holiday Heroes v1.0 WAD! All that's left are the maps themselves. I'll resume in the morning, as I'm pretty tired from work and all this.

I had another strange dream last night, but my memory is fleeting as I write. I was at a Detective Agency, with some friends from other universes. There was the Ghost Girl from the Amusement Park in the Sky, Miles "Tails" Prower, Sonic the Hedgehog, both of the Mario Brothers as well as Bowser for some reason (they don't appear later at all), Ren Amamiya (better known as "Joker" from Persona 5), Phoenix Wright, and Maya Fey. I myself was working a standard shift, organizing files and evidence from various cases. I'm approached by the Ghost Girl who talks to me about what I've been doing. Keep in mind I'm the only one who can see and talk to her, which is odd as is and makes me look crazy at times. I considered asking Maya to see if she could communicate with her as well, but never actually followed through. As I'm talking with her about these things, Tails comes into my office and insists he has something to show me and pulls out one of his... Interesting devices. It's a radio of some sort, and there's a transmission on it from an unknown location. I bring it up to the chief, and they immediately trace the coordinates and put together a party to seek it out. The party consists of several Police and SWAT units, Phoenix Wright, Maya Fey, Sonic, Tails, and myself (the Ghost Girl tags along, since nobody can see or talk to her to object). I ask how we're going to get there, and the party leader (one of the Police officers, high ranking, can't remember the name, or any of their names for that matter) states that we'll have to go on foot since air isn't a logical conclusion for the stealth we're trying to maintain some degree of. Sonic and Tails offer to go on ahead, but dash off before anyone can object. Wright makes a remark about how I'm able to even keep up with them at times, I simply sigh. I take the time to finally tell Maya about the Ghost Girl, who picks up on her almost immediately (you can thank her Spirit Medium background for that). After some QnA between me, the Ghost Girl, Wright, and Maya with the units (the Police and SWAT guys) not knowing anything that's going on, we notice that quite some time has passed since Sonic and Tails ran off (roughly 2 hours, a short trip never takes that long for them). I start to worry, and head off myself as fast as I can without thinking about the rest of the group getting left behind. They call after me, but I'm already gone. As I go along, I realize that I don't actually know where I'm going despite having the coordinates. I stop for a bit and look at my surroundings. It's a remote forest area, communications don't work. The Ghost Girl brings up the question of how the transmission was sent to begin with in such an area, and I begin to think about it too. As we're discussing this, I catch sight of what looks like Tails running around and I attempt to intercept him. It's Tails alright, but something is very off. His eyes have lost all color and he's acting like a wild animal. He lashes out at me, without any memory of who I am. I attempt to wrangle him with my limited animal handling knowledge and I'm successful to a degree. It's at this time I find out I'm no longer an action figure like I was at the Amusement Park in the Sky, but rather I'm wearing a film detective outfit with... ears and a tail poking out... Huh... Anyways, I've wrangled the wild Tails and carried him over my shoulder like Santa Claus would his sack of toys. Tails growls and claws at my back, my outfit gets torn up, but he's not able to do much to my... fur... Well, this is getting weird. The Ghost Girl helps me reorient myself after all of that, and we follow Tails' trail out of the forest and to a heavily guarded base. It seems like he was taken out of the base before being left to run around like a wild animal. Makes sense, don't think you would want an animal going crazy on the premises. As we approach the gate, we notice the guard is absent. Upon closer inspection around the booth, he's not just absent, but knocked unconscious behind the booth. Stepping into the booth, around the body, and out the booth door into the premises, the Ghost Girl picks up on a portal of some sort but is unable to open it. My phone starts shaking violently as I pass through the "portal residue" as I'll call it, and I check it out. Suddenly, I black out and the dream ends.

The Holiday Heroes WAD has been decompiled and merged with Heroes and Saviors (aka Seasonal Saviors, Holiday Heroes v2.0, etc.)! All that's left are the map files.

Heya! How's your night going? I'm fixing to head to bed myself, I did a LOT today.
  • Finished Decompiling the Holiday Heroes v1.0 WAD I found on my computer last night and merged it with Heroes and Saviors/Seasonal Saviors/Holiday Heroes v2.0 for one massive (and convenient) package!
  • Begun the "Quality Improvement" process for Holiday Heroes. New Textures and Stage Edits for the original Halloween Tech Stages (Ghost Maze and Ghoul Passage) and the first half of the original Christmas Tech Stages (Springin' Around through Egg Arena/Havin' Fun?)!
  • New Hub, "The Hub Zone", housing most of the content in Holiday Heroes and what's currently done for Heroes and Saviors/Seasonal Saviors/Holiday Heroes v2.0!
Download for this "Merge Demo" is below. Knock yourselves out, I'm going to bed!

I think the name "Holiday Saviours" would be much better to make as a "merge name", since the one you have said is way too long. At least to me, that is.

Also, since the current mod is about seasons, how far will the name stretch? For example, Angry Birds Seasons really strecthed the "Seasons" part of the name with all the diffrent episodes not being based around seasons.

The current plan as is is simply 4 episodes: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. I intend for each Episode to have 9 levels for a total of 36 maps for the Seasonal Saviors portion. I also have to go back and finish up Holiday Heroes itself as there are a few levels that are severely unfinished, some not even having placeholder maps! It's quite ambitious with a total of 62 maps in total for just the campaign.

On another note, I was thinking about how to go about the story to span across BOTH sets of maps, but ended up drawing another picture of Lucas. I don't know why.

I've had some great developments on my end, and I finally got my schedule together (for this semester, anyways)! As a result, I know exactly when I could work on all these projects of mine! Here's a rundown on what I've got going on and what needs to be done for each:
- Holiday Heroes + Seasonal Saviors: New textures and other updates for Holiday Heroes, complete the campaigns for Holiday Heroes and Seasonal Saviors with a new story that spans both campaigns, as well as finish the multiplayer rotations for Race, Match, and Capture the Flag!
- Sonic into Dreams: Finish Toxic Tours Zone and Starry Skylines Zone, as well as the B Side and Emerald Challenges!
- Lucas the Tiger: Just make his sprites. That's literally it. :3

I had another strange dream last night. I was in a mall, and it was past closing time. I attempt to leave but am locked in by the shutters closing. After coming to terms with the situation, I get myself settled, taking what I need for the night from the shelves. In the morning, the shutters open again, but before I can leave, a wave of people flood the store, as if stirred up like a herd of animals. The last person to enter the store is a strange looking man, accompanied by a large amount of men wearing suits and shades. I start to feel faint, and I pass out on the floor of the building. I wake up some time later to see the shutters closed again, but the mall is as busy as ever. As I get back on my feet, one of the suited men approach me and look me in the eye with a menacing gaze. I try to ask what's going on, and he simply directs me to follow him. I try asking again, but he once again directs me to follow him, this time in a more assertive voice. I gulp, and follow them. They take me to the main plaza located towards the center of the store, where everyone else appears to be discussing among themselves about something. The strange man appears again, and almost immediately draws everyone's attention without any assistance from the suited men. He tells everyone that the mall will be "altered" for a "special event" hosted by themselves. The lights turn off for a long time, and when they come back on, the entire mall has been practically transformed to an arena of some sort. They vanish without a trace afterwards, their last message being "let the game begin!" The suited men leave the rest of the assembly and go elsewhere, leaving the assembly to fend for themselves. A presentation comes one documenting various objects in the building and a point value for each. This is followed by a timer for about three days, and the assembly immediately scatters and looks for the highest value items. Myself and a few others prioritize our essentials before going out for points. After getting the essentials together, I head out for points in the direction where I felt the least amount of people headed to. I wasn't exactly paying attention to the items and their point values, so I was just grabbing anything that looked important. Some time passes and it was getting harder to carry so much stuff, so I headed to an out of the way store to inspect everything behind the counter where nobody would see me. It turns out there were tags added to everything in the store with their point values, how convenient. I calculated that I had about two hundred and twenty one points, which I certainly did not see as much given the scope of the building. As I was getting ready to head back out, one of the suited men intercept me and asked for the items I collected so far and thier point value. I asked why and he said that himself and the other suited men are acting as referees for this "game", keeping track of point and items for everyone to make things run smoothly. I certainly did not expect that strange looking guy from earlier (who the suited man told me was the organizer for all this) to actually have some sort of enforcement and regulation for this event. I handed the suited man my items and reported my score, and he checked my score the items I gave him then got out of my way so I could continue. I headed back to the rudimentary camp site I set up last night, and noticed everything was worth quite a bit of points. It was about 1500 points total. Another suited man approaches me with a smirk on his face and says, "So, are you going to turn in these items for points? Most everyone else who set up camps already has." I look around the immediate area, and find it as the suited man said. I decline, and he walks off and says, "Your loss." I decide to rest and think about this whole event. I'm getting ready to head out again, and the strange man comes in through the intercom with a score report from the suited men, and I'm in dead last by quite a margin: 1500 points. The strange man follows with a reminder of the items, their point values, and how much time is left in the game. Two days remain. I asked myself if a whole day has really passed since the start of the game, and I'm uncertain. You can't see outside due to the stutters, and most of the clocks in the building were either broken or gone. I overhear some people talking about a crown, and I get in a bit closer. The crown was said to be an "instant win" item and how fights broke out and people were badly hurt or even killed whenever the crown was being contested. That "instant win" was highly sought after, but nobody even knew what happened if you won! The strange man never addressed it once. Suddenly, the suited men start getting everyone together again and we return to the main plaza. I noticed the change in atmosphere immediately: the fountain is broken and many decorations are either gone or also broken. One of the suited men is on the overlook high above the fountain. They lower an object from the overlook and it takes no time to figure out what it is: the crown. Chaos ensues as the crown comes down, and several people slip into the fountain and get cut against the chipped marble. It's not long before the fountain turns red from all the blood. It's horrifying. I tried to grab my phone and call 911, only to find out that it was missing. The suited men are torn amongst themselves, some pale at what was happening, while others laughed manically. This whole thing is a nightmare. People pulling at the crown caused it to snap from the string it was lowered down on and fly through the air and by some stroke of luck landed on top of my head. Nobody seems to have noticed except for the suited men, and they just stare at me for a while. The suited men who were laughing at the violence earlier rallied everyone's attention to me, and I broke into a sprint of pure adrenaline. The other suited men tried to hold the stampede of crazed people to no avail, and collapsed under the masses. As I'm running for my life, I feel something inside of the crown on my head. I barely got enough time to break away from the crazed swarm of people to dive into one of the stores and hide behind the counter. I take the crown off of my head, and a security card falls out. I pick it up, and recognize the level matches with the shutters at the entrances! I could... leave. As I breathe a sigh of relief, the store door flies open and I hear footsteps enter. I panic and begin planning my escape. The footsteps near the counter, and without thinking, I throw the crown across the store. The footsteps seem to follow the crown, and I get out from behind the counter. "Did you think that would work?" I freeze and sweat pours down my face. It's the strange man. The dream abruptly ends afterwards.

I had not one, but two dreams last night.
The second was a school competition set in the world of Captain Underpants (if you know, you know) where me and my brother were competing against all the other students also split into teams of two. There were things like Dodgeball, Tag, and other Track competitions. The whole thing is cranked up to eleven when Professor Poopypants shows up and starts brainwashing those who get eliminated. The thing ends with a musical showdown between me, my brother, and Captain Underpants against Melvin, Poopypants, and the Turbo Toilet 2000 (don't ask how that last part worked out, I have no idea either) we emerge victorious and the baddies (minus Melvin, he just gets scolded by the other teachers pretty harshly) fly off in a comic book explosion. The dream ends with a clap and handshake between me and Captain Underpants right before a storm rolls in. The sounds of the clap ends the dream.

The first was another dream with a pretty large emphasis on my brother. My own details are kinda screwy due to the "double feature", but I found a notepad with a crudely written summary of the first dream on my desk.

I can... Attempt to transcribe this in text. "Mario and Luigi game, playing with my brother. It ended up turning into a trip between dimensions. For some reason, Sans (from Undertale) and Ness (from Earthbound) were also there and hosted a pretty messed up game of Red Light, Green Light akin to that 'Squid Game' show." The writing just ends there. I guess I tried to reenter that dream after I wrote it down but ended up with the Captain Underpants dream?

Getting started with this guy finally in MS Paint. I'm not sure how the pallette-ing works, so I'll come back to it when I know how to.

You know, I've got a lot in development at the same time. I really ought to home in on one thing at a time until everything is complete. There's a lot more than I would like to admit I'm not happy with too. So... what do you all think I should focus on first?
  • Holiday Heroes
  • Seasonal Saviors
  • Sonic into Dreams
  • Lucas the Tiger
I've got my own personal biases in regards to what I would like to finish before everything else, but it wouldn't hurt to get a general opinion of what y'all would like sooner than later, right?

Given how far along Holiday Heroes is, I ought to finish it first! Maybe it'll finally be accepted after all I've done for it since I last tried to submit it... back in 2023. There's only 5 maps left I need to complete alongside finishing the updates to the old stages, which shouldn't take long at all.

As of tonight, every Halloween, Christmas, and Secret stage has been updated!
All that's left are the Finale and Holiday NiGHTS updates, and then the last few stages.
