I've never made a map before, but I'm challenging myself to try to make an open world map by the next deadline since we all can't wait for sonic rangers. May as well do it ourselves.
I've been watching the videos, they have been a huge help! My main goal is to make something very slope inspired, to make people want to replay it and just be able to enjoy the level to matter the character. I want to also implement areas for wall jumping and grabbing onto ceilings since lots of new character wads take advantage of that. Of course those wouldn't be the main paths, but you would be able to access them easily.Unfortunately, due to limitations with the game's rendering, far-away level geometry tends to end up looking glitchy and broken. You'll be better off starting your mapping career by making something more traditional. It's a helpful tactic for getting used to Zone Builder and normal level design. You may want to check my guide on using Zone Builder to get started. I'm always excited to see what new mappers will bring to the table. Good luck!
They're all hosted here on the message board. The ones for v2.2 are in Addons & more, and older ones can be found in the archives.
I don't see why you can't. You should be fine because it's not explicitly against the rules.can I submit a level that is only made for one character (and write in the SOC ForceCharacter)?
Check the Rules & Deadlines post. The next deadline is in the summer, and participants can start creating their maps whenever they like. When is the next contest?![]()
Doesn't matter. It can be unpacked in SLADE regardless.Must the stage be in a wad or it doesn't matter and it can be in pk3?
