Choice Speedrun Character?

Which character do you use most often for, say, Marathon Run or time trial emblems, and why? Depending how I feel, I tend to go with either Tails or Metal.

hello, even though I rarely try to speedrun levels unless it's for record attack, I usually tend to play Metal Sonic since he technically is the fastest character in the vanilla roster and the fact that he can cheese through entire sections with his hover (that is if he built up enough speed beforehand), I've also tried Sonic once and he was surprisingly faster even tho he doesn't feel like it.
As for tails I've never tried but he could be a good choice as well.
For modded characters, I usually go with X Sonic because that is his strongest suit (when I don't screw up a zip dash haha)

modern sonic probably has to be my first choice for speedrunning, it's moveset is so perfect for it. when the new update comes out, it'll be more perfect for speedrunning.

Rose Gold Amy, Maimy, Skip, and Kris are usually my picks, though my main is RGA since she can gain height and then drop like a brick when needed and can recover from getting hit pretty much instantly, and can also act in the air even if she hasn’t jumped

As for Maimy, I haven’t used her in a while so I don’t remember what was so great, but I’m going to assume it was her double jump ability. (read below)

Edit: After a couple of days I've come back to Maimy and realized that she is actually goated for speedrunning. Dashmode makes it easy to skip spikewalls (or spikes in general), and the mace flip is very easily chained with the rocket boost, and also gains more height the faster you were prior to using it. Even if I didn't have too much speed built up, I can still perform minor skips over otherwise inconvenient hazards
also, she's just fun to use

Skip has a moveset I’m already familiar with, having already played A Hat in Time, and I can also make a super sneaker box if I so please.

Kris is obviously extremely fast, though I always end up not wanting to switch to Susie or Ralsei (because I have slow reaction times and if I switch in the middle of a run I will ALWAYS lose my flow)

I will say I'm not the best at speedrunning but Maimy does get me some pretty fast times for what I can do well

I just love using silver. I'm not good at speedrunning, so using his flying and hover abilities makes things pretty much easier.
