That's probably to point out that gizoids can't actually liquefy themselves. Nevertheless, I like your vision of this more, the roll always looked kinda stupid.

Yeah. I'd say maybe they were trying to keep it visually clear that the player was Emerl and not Chaos at a glance- one would think their different colors would be enough, but I get the feeling the Chaos palette complicated that.

I don't think it was that much of a problem considering Emerl can curl up in a spinball and one could make his spinball's palette look just like that of Sonic

and i know it's smth he can already do
but im asking in general

does he flap his arms super fast and we can only perceive it as mildly fast?
does he rely on the thruster-pack thing on his back for the propulsion and the arms are just cuz he's having fun?

i need to know

Unfortunately it's too difficult to provide an answer other than "he just does, okay?". No one really bothered explaining the mechanics behind a fictional character somehow flying by flapping his arms like wings. Considering how much can Emerl do maybe he somehow makes his hands hollow so that they function like wings? I don't know, no explanation sounds believable here.
