Surge the Tenrec is bolting in from the Sonic IDW comics straight into SRB2!

Surge is rather skilled with her powers of Electricity, allowing her to charge herself up to enhance herself and her moves to clear zones faster and/or easier.
Be mindful of water though, that'll weaken your abilities.

So how do you build charge to enhance yourself? There are a few ways...

as always, characters with Green Fur and Blue Pupils will always be Sonic's equal rival (first Jet, then Scourge, and as of now, it's Surge)

Extreme Surge Up

really great character, tons of fun! I do think it might suit the character to have a few draw backs to her powers to add some character and unique balance to her, since she is so powerful. Having her powers not work at all when under water might make alot of sense outside of a basic jump and spindash. maybe having her static charge run out if you're standing still or moving slowly for too long? There's probably a few more things that might work as comical/balanced tradeoffs. she is EXTREMELY powerful feeling, though. Alot of fun, but maybe toning back in a few ways without removing her toolkit could help with her feel?

In testing she did used to lose her charge if she went too slow, but that proved to be too annoying on certain stages

hey, love the mod!! super fun moveset for a great character. I wanna ask, about the xmomentum support- is she supposed to still have vanilla physics with xmom on? as is, she's not gaining speed running down slopes or on flat ground, nor is she maintaining air speed on the ground, even though xmom is definitely on. I just wanna make sure that's not an error.

Lightdasher, you did it! Congratulations!

Surge is a very simple but satisfying character to play, if not a bit inconsistent. Sometimes a little slow/underpowered, sometimes super strong, especially in enemy spam levelpacks where she can go absolutely ham. I love the sprites where you were able to go wild with expressions, those always shine the most.

Oh, and sorry this all took so long, everyone. We were so close to being done, then I procrastinated on the final stretches of Surge when I had to do SA-Sonic's release rush, so she's out a week or 2 later than she probably should've been. That's on me.

I didn't disable anything Xmom related. Load order might matter here since Surge keeps updating her max speed every tic, so try adding xmom AFTER surge!

I think I found a bug. If you double-jump, then either gain a charge from an environmental thing like the walls in ERZ1 or something like another player's Surge Trail, you don't regain your double-jump and can't even Volt-Jump.
I don't believe this is intended behavior, considering your double-jump is stated to be recharged after every charge gained. I believe it acts like this for every charge gained through environmental means, as it acted similarly when I tested a wall in BCZ1 and the electric fence in BCZ2 (Metal Sonic fight).
also um i think you can get charge from an ally surges trail from way too high up??
Like, I used Botskin to get another Surge, CPU surge's trail could be WAY below me, and I can jump WAY above it, and I could still gain a charge from it. I think it's just the trail too, as I could jump over Deep Sea Zone's boss' electrical attacks and I wouldn't gain a charge.

Surge comes before xmom in the addon list, so that's the load order I used in the first place- I did test it with her (using 1.3.3) in both orders just now and she acted the same either way. :dramahog:

I also tested with xmom 1.2 (luckily had it saved in the downloads folder) and she worked as intended with it there, so if I may guess, 1.3 (or one of its bugfix updates) could be the issue...?

I played literally one act and I'm already hooked on her. Super fun stuff. Her momentum based mechanics and resetting abilities feels smooth and concise. Really great work with this one.

That indeed is a bug, I don't know how that slipped by, I'll see about getting it hopefully fixed soon.

Hopefully it doesn't dampen your experience with Surge too much ;o

It dampened my experience with, like, one room of Egg Rock zone act 1, and even then merely mildly. Even WITH the bugs, when I realized the walls for an entire SECTION of Egg Rock 1 was electrified, I was pumped! Even when I struggled to Volt-Jump, I just decided to chain together way too many Volt-Dashes instead, and get through THAT way, and that was pretty fun! And being able to bounce off the final boss when it has that electric barrier was a neat detail.
Yeah, Surge is a blast to play! The way the charges work makes me want to play record attack with her and go for time records, but I don't think that works with mods, and I don't know of any way to make it work.

I absolutely love this mod, but just a quick question: Are the idle sprites meant to be so slow compared to the ledge sprites? I still ADORE this mod, I'm just curious.
