Some concept art for the JAMMA City boss arena.
I'm thinkin that the boss fight will take place inside a large skyscraper elevator.

So I'm finally back modding for you! If you know the words you can join in too! Put your hands together, if you want to clap, as I take you through this mod update. HUH!

Heya folks, its been a couple minutes, hasn't it? I went out for the holidays but now I'm back and I'm ready to do the things.

So lets cut to the chase. If you've been reading the previous updates, you'll know that I'm working on stage 1, JAMMA City. Well I'm happy to say that JAMMA City is nearly complete! All thats left is to add in the last section, the boss, and to make general improvements. I would of been able to get the last segment done, if I didn't have some run-ins with SRB2/Doom's trademark modding bullshit.View attachment 58725

Oh yea I should probably mention the level structure. Instead of having 3 maps per zone: 2 regular levels, and 1 boss fight. I'm just going to have 1 act per zone, with the boss fight taking place at the end of the level. This is to have a smooth transition into the boss fight and to add a bit more challenge.

Now lets get into the story of the Arcade levels...the plot I mean.
Now I haven't really gotten it set in stone yet, but I'm thinking that maybe one of Eggmans creations goes rouge one day and attempts to eradicate all humans and mobians (including Eggman!) in an attempt to "save the planet." Yea that's just sort of a basic idea of what the story's gonna be, but I'll be sure to expand upon it later.

Now onto the character roster. I'm definitely gonna get some backlash for this but for the Arcade Levels, I'm basically going to be removing every other character except Sonic and Metal Sonic. Why? Well you know how every vanilla character (except Sonic) is downright OP and break the stages in two, such as Tails in Arid Canyon and Aerial Garden? Well since this mod is meant to replicate the challenge and feel of an arcade game, those game breaking abilities will have to go! Originally, I was just going to nerf their abilities, but while I was away for the J man's birthday, I thought to myself "You know what, fuck it. I'll just get rid of them entirely!" Well "remove" is kinda of a loose term here, I'll most likely just make them unobtainable through normal gameplay, and even then I'll add in a script that prevents progression if some smartass switches to them through devmode. And if you're wondering why I'm keeping Metal Sonic, well it's because he's going to be integral to the story. Maybe before that rouge robot turned against Eggman, it could have been comrades with Metal Sonic.

And as for what's after JAMMA City, I'm thinking that the 2nd stage could be a homage to the Clock Tower stage from Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (AKA one of the greatest video games known to man.)

yea it's gonna look like that.

Sooo yea that's all I got for now. Stay tuned for more!
You do realize amy isn't one of those op characters right, but metal is? Also, certain mod characters better not be excluded, also I got a feeling since it based on the challenge of arcade games, are the other characters going to be unlocked through some real tough means and challenges?

While yes, amy isn't one of the more op characters, I'm removing (or rather, making her unobtainable) because of how she (and fang) aren't really speed focused. You know how in the later Street Fighter games Ryu and Ken have differences between them such as their attacks, yet they still have the same sort of playstyle? Or in various schmups where you're given the choice of choosing various fighters with different speeds and attacks. Their attacks and movespeed may be different, but they all have the same general idea, shoot all the things. That's what I'm trying to accomplish with Sonic and Metal Sonic in AL, different characters with different abilities, yet play the same way. Also I can't really do much about custom characters as players can basically add in whoever they want, whenever they want, so I can't really do anything about it.

And if you're wondering why I'm keeping metal sonic, it's for story reasons, I have plans for Metal Sonic to play a big role in the story, so I thought it would be a good idea for players to be able to play through the game through his perspective. And don't you worry about his broken abilities, I might add in some stuff to him to offset his broken hover, like maybe he flies farther back when taking damage or maybe he can't hold as many rings as Sonic can.

And since you mentioned unlocks, it gave me the idea to maybe make Tails be a 100% completion unlock.

hows this for JAMMA City stage music?

hows this for JAMMA City stage music?

I had an idea for a suggestion

Perhaps a bit too jazzy for what you're looing for though

Yea a bit too Jazzy for a futuristic city. I'm lookin for a track that gives off a sort of futuristic and intro stagey vibe. But thanks tho

Would this count?

Ehh I'm not really feelin this one. This song has a more final stagey vibe to it. Plus I've already decided on Geometric City Metropolis mix. I mean for petes sake the track is literally called Geometric City!

Possible Boss Music? (For any boss you had in mind)

Hey this actually sounds pretty good! I think I might use this for the JCZ Boss! Thanks man!

Some concepts for a new ability for Sonic and Metal Sonic: The Variable Thok. It's a thok that scales based on a certain factor.

also drew some new HUD elements to go with the V.Thok.
Internally, these would work differently from SRB2's vanilla HUD.

Here's some concept art for the main antagonist of the Arcade Levels, G.O.D (Global Obliteration Droid)
G.O.D is Eggmans latest and most powerful creation, a very powerful superweapon that's based on Metal Sonics blueprints and is infused with chunks of the Black Comet (Y'know, the thing from the intro that everyone skips.) G.O.D can easily destroy planets and it's power is on par with the Chaos Emeralds.

However, due to a bug in his programming, G.O.D's morality shifts from evil to good. This morality shift causes G.O.D to often disobey his creator and his fellow robots such as Metal Sonic, as well as causing him to develop a strong liking towards nature and the environment. A lot of times, G.O.D can be seen enjoying nature, taking care of plants and flowers, and observing animals....when he's supposed to be hunting down Sonic and co.

This fondness of the environment would get the better of him during a mission to destroy a small village to clear the land for eggman to build an outpost. There G.O.D would witness the amount of pollution that both humans, mobians, and even his fellow comrades were creating. Large sewage pipes pumping slime into rivers, trash everywhere, all juxtaposed with the beauty of nature. This causes G.O.D to snap and announce his hatred of all of mankind, "These insufferable beings have created enough pollution in this world! They've torn their planet from the hands of mother nature! I now see what my reason for being created is. I have been chosen by mother nature to return the planet back to its rightful owner!" Said G.O.D as he goes on a murderous rampage, slaughtering every human, mobian, and robot he sees (and in one instance, nearly kills Eggman!)

In the game, Sonic's and Metal Sonic's story start at different points. Sonic's story starts just a few days before the incident that caused G.O.D to turn, whereas Metal Sonic's story starts two days after the incident, where Metal is searching for G.O.D so he can return him to Eggman.

Before the incident, G.O.D and Metal Sonic had a..let's just say, unhealthy relationship. Due to G.O.D's disobedience to his creator and his fixation on nature, Metal Sonic would often ridicule G.O.D for disobeying his master and being too obsessed with the environment, thus causing G.O.D to develop a hatred for Metal, which would get much worse after G.O.D turns rouge.

Nice story. 9/10.

Thanks, the idea behind G.O.D is that he's a tragic villain. He doesn't want to be evil, he wants nothing more than to see the environment flourish. But Eggman and all the pollution humans and mobians have created drove him insane, and made him think that the only way to save the planet, is to get rid of what's causing the problem, that being mankind.

So yea thats why Metal Sonic's still gonna be playable but not the others :knuxsmug:

I never expected such lore from a level pack with "Arcade" in the title
