Sunset Heights

[Open Assets] Sunset Heights 2024-03-03

This review is semi-late and I forgot to post it.

I loved the stages you made for Sonic and the Gunslinger so seeing your name pop up again was exciting. I have to say I really enjoyed this stage with both vanillia and modded characters. You really have a way with designing stages that makes it feel destincly you.

My only real complaints was the stage feeling a bit empty was a downside, it did open up speedrunning possibilities (mostly for modded characters) and I can definitley see myself coming back to learn a new character if I don't feel like playing through vanillia.

Also I really need a seperate pk3 so I can do proper time trials.

Anyways, can't wait to see more!

Thanks for the kind words!

Re: time trial, what does that involve? Countdown, metal sonic race, or something else?

This is a super interesting interpretation of the unfinished Dark City map. The new textures give it a very cool city vibe. You put in a lot of work to sell the aesthetic of this stage, and it shows!

The biggest issue with this stage currently is the lack of directed obstacles. Right now there's a lot of running without much that really pressures the player. There are an abundance of large flat planes that make it rather boring to run through as vanilla characters, especially on repeat playthroughs. Honestly, it's probably that Road doesn't lend itself into making the most engaging gameplay; That's definitely a limitation you have to work around.

I have a few nitpicks as well, none of the rings have the float flag, which looks super awkward, and it's inconsistent which grass edges have midtextures. There are lots of visual errors in software. In that case I think it needs a little more time in the oven to cook.

Good stuff, Welcome to Releases!

Thank you!

I will check out software mode again, but I didn't see major errors in 2.2.13
