Sonic But BAD v2

Welp... Mission accomplished.

Fair warning to anyone planning to download this, you have to go through several zip files within zip files to even reach the wad. All for a character with poorly made sprites and reusable abilities that have already been seen several times before. Not worth it tbqh.

Ah, uh... Normally, with poorly rated mods, I can say A for Effort or something. Normally. This feels more like a mod to push the submission boundaries on how low can you go, not something honestly meant to be the best work you can manage for a joke. I suppose it's on me for not taking the title to heart, though.

I’m going to be completely blunt, this mod stinks. I know you think that means you did what you set out to do, but you failed to do that by a long shot. I’m going to criticize what this mod does right and what it does wrong. I feel like I’m in a position to make this review simply because I’m making a mod of a similar nature.

1. The Moveset - He’s playable, but it’s very generic. There’s not much going for it. I could easily get a better experience by playing MCSonic.

2. The Sprites - You kinda hit the mark, but it looks like a very basic and uninspired version of TerminalMontage’s Sonic, which is also a very basic design. Kudos on actually making all 200+ sprites (I’m hoping you did, I haven’t opened it up in Slade yet), but that’s the only positive that I’ll give you. No real effort seems to show through the character’s design.

3. The Memes - Holy cannoli, this was a very rough way of intertwining memes into it. First off, you should know that memes expire. Second off, you should already know that the memes included have already expired. The “I like ya cut, G” Scream and Amogus have been dead for a long time, so this just comes off as very cringey and out of the loop.

4. The Inspiration - So, you mentioned how this is based off of the “Friday Night Funkin’ But Bad” Mod, but it doesn’t feel that way at all. First off, FNFBB isn’t overloaded with memes. Second off, the “But Bad” refers to the poor drawings and poor audio. There’s people that took actual effort to make super basic designs of the characters and the stages to give it an unfinished look and, on top of that, actually demastered the audio to sound really unfinished. This mod does neither of those particularly well.

For a first mod, this shows you have an understanding of how to use Slade. That’s it. I do hope you take these criticisms to heart and take it with you when you decide to take modding more seriously.

I'm not against joke mods at all but... You know you can do them better than this, right? This is appealing to the lowest of low brow humor by just being "haha lmao it sucks" and acknowledging it doesn't excuse it from being a bad joke.
Hell, joke mods have released here with actual substance to their jokes (see: Inawheelchair, Panic/Trolled), but this is just... way too simple. Even extracting the damn character out of 4-5 zip files is annoying in and of itself. That ain't really funny, its just a waste of time. The character itself doesn't even do anything funny, nor does it have any gameplay that differs from the norm. You could have AT LEAST made his controls terrible, or his abilities mess you up intentionally if he's meant to BE bad.

I do have to commend you for actually making it through the filters with this, and for doing what it says on the title. It truly is Sonic but bad.

You know for a mod called "Sonic but BAD", I thought there would be some social commentary on the bad Sonic games or even with how the MB has been filled with different Sonics. Instead we've just got a generic Sonic moveset with Among Us memes....a lot of Among Us memes with maybe some screams thrown in because "haha loud = funny".
The MS Paint sprites aren't even well drawn with noticeable gray pixels from the brush tool plaguing multiple frames, and the shape of the character being inconsistent between animations. It can get bad to the point I couldn't make out that Super Sonic had the "drip" until I looked at the artwork section on the release page.
I'll be lenient with the quality of this since it's your first mod but I think this joke character could have been done way better. There's only so much you can do when doing the ironically bad gimmick before it becomes stale in a world where people are now realising that "cringe culture" was a big mistake and Sanic isn't funny anymore.
I hope if you do another mod like this there's a bit of a bigger push in just making a neat mod in general, so that it can still hold up on its own once you look past the parody.

This mod is so bad it's bad at being bad. Amazing. Next time, I'd advise you come up with a more creative premise than "crude mspaint sprites + reusable scripts ft. amogus".

I won't lie when I say that this mod is extremely disappointing. The spritework has some major issues. Inconsistent outline sizes, crusty dirty pixels, and inconsistencies from angle to angle makes the whole experience very eye straining. The abilities are extremely bland and nothing to write home about. The 'jokes' are very bare bones and don't really amount to much. Even I, the guy that loves amogus memes, didn't find any of the jokes here to be funny. Its all very basic and generic "haha amongus" jokes. Everything in general just feels very "childish."

Though I will applaud you for at least putting the effort into making original sprites. Honestly you have potential to be an awesome sprite animator. I feel like you should explore trying to take your art more seriously. Challenge yourself to make higher quality sprites and don't be afraid to seek out critique! Don't limit yourself to these low effort lame 'joke' mods.

2) the mod has bad in the name so I don't feel ripped off

3) I'm pretty sure this got into submissions for the sole reason of its name sake

Ah... were to begin with this... Your sprites are terrible, this is filled to the brim with bad memes, and this looks EXACTLY like a friend of mines. So, calling it "bad" just upsets me in every way. I get this is a joke but you didn't make it funny, If you're a beginner at modding you should have just made a normal mod. The DJ version crashed on me so luckily I won't complain about that, though that would have made it worse because I already wish I can give this zero stars.

i'll give it this, it does what it sets out to do, but not only has this set of moves been done to death before to the point where there are at least six mods that do it better, but the "funny" aspect just doesn't hit at all.
you'll get as much of an experience out of this mod by just watching somebody play it on youtube.

So, I won't repeat too much said below I hope, but one of the reasons the mod fails so hard is that the joke is just "it's bad". I mean, the joke with HMS123311 is that it's a parody of people who make Sonic OCs that just barely change Sonic and slap a bunch of lines on him, give him ridiculously overpowered abilities and call it a day, a bit like that one Cinos bit from Sonic Shorts. Like DOOD64 has said, this mod references FNF But Bad, but fails to understand what makes that mod charming.

Just putting in a bunch of memes doesn't make it funny by itself, you're just referencing something else. There's nothing being parodied or satirized here, it's just Sonic but bad. Which I guess was the point, so congrats on a terrible job well done. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because despite the sprites being, well, bad, you actually took the effort to replace all the frames, which I've heard takes quite some time.

Typically, jokes are funny. I mean-- I guess here, the joke is that you thought it was a good bad joke. That's funny in its own way, but not because it was trying to be.

On the bright side, you can't get a rating any worse than this!

Okay, I'm not here to shit on your mod with another one star review like everyone else here.

Even if it's objectively and intentionally not that great. I admire that you were able to actually put together a character wad. That's more than I could ever bother to do.

If anything, this is a valid start. My gateway into srb2 modding too was with joke mods as well, albeit with maps instead of characters (and I never tried to release them :b). They provide a way to learn the programs and software necessary without getting too worked up about quality or pressured to make something of a quality you're unable to at that point. It doesn't take as much time as a full scale mod, but it's definitely a learning experience and a way to improve.

All in all, your starting off point here is pretty okay. Use what you've learned from this and take a serious attempt at a character. If not now, some time in the future. I believe in you!

Okay, from the start of the mod being zipped multiple times to the many amogus memes and reusable scripts, this doesn't even seem like a mod that is supposed to reference "FNF but bad". (other than the sprites)

Speaking of the sprites, they're awful. Even if they're meant to be awful, they could at least make it look like they looked natural when moving around and such.

I'm going to cut you some slack with it being your first mod that actually made it to releases, but even though it IS your first mod, it still needs some improvement if you want this to be any sort of close to funny.

I do hope you'll one day become great at making mods instead of being known for this.

I'm sorry but this just looks like a shitty mod, as you know i'm aware that this is your first mod but it isn't that good. sure you said it's inspired by fnf but bad but this is just a sonic with a bunch of reusable lua. The Super music doesn't even load and gives me a bunch of errors, i find mcsonic more enjoyable then this.

If you look beyond the "amoogoos" and the crappy sprites, this feels empty, without anything unique, maybe add/revise a few features.

At most, ... jokes were made. Though I don't remember FNF but Bad constantly shouting among us jokes and have the Over the Hedge ass shake that everyone uses now. Also there are sprites. Really all I can say about this.
Won't repeat the negatives that other people have shoved down here, to which I agree with wholeheartedly but all I can say is that this mod fails to imitate the source material, and I am very disappointed.
I do hope that following this, there could be something good from you, but right now I'm not seeing it.
