Doom Ship Zone Act 2

Doom Ship Zone Act 2 1.0.0

This is an abbreviated version of my review; the full version can be found in the Discussion tab. There was no way I'd be able to fit all my thoughts here.

• Avalice tried to make a level that could have fit in with 2.0's campaign - IMO, he failed
• Few rings, no alternate paths, no powerups, just a linear enemy gauntlet
• Enemies are incredibly annoying but aren't lethal because...
• There's barely any environmental hazards for what would have been a late-game level in 2.0
• Some obstacles were not thought out or tested well enough (i.e. the ejection sequences)
• Good visual setpieces
• Starting area feels like absolute hell to trudge through - forced combat plus an ejection sequence that gives no time to react
• 2 stars instead of 1 because I can see the flashes of genius in Avalice's work - if he didn't restrict himself to 2.0 limitations, he could absolutely thrive

You know, i haven't experienced a really challenging addon map in 2.2 in my life, but now because of this, i can say that it was really challenging, like not gonna lie, specially the fact that i only died 2 times in this stage, but still, it was a pretty good challenging addon, specially for those who want a challenging addon to beat.

this is a pretty bad level even for 2.0 standards, it's just not fun to play at all and it feels like a kazio. I gave up on it, next time try to prioritize fun instead!

note: rating based on the oldc version, idk if this had changed since the oldc but i wanted to rate it since i saw it became a standalone

i think the resemblance to 2.0 is ALMOST impeccable but you missed one of the best parts of 2.0's level set: the forward thrust to it all, that makes it feel incredible to thok-surf in
though, this would take an entire overhaul of the level, unfortunately
at the end of the day, it's aesthetically fitting to 2.0, and has the same difficulty level (which i appreciate as someone who feels like srb2 has just dipped off in terms of difficulty out of fear of some nebulous idea of fairness) but it's not as fun or fluid to pull off a good run as a 2.0 level would be, which knocks it down a few points for me.

3 stars: it evoked nostalgia, and helped me get something i feel is missing in 2.2 levels, but it's lacking a good chunk of why i come back to 2.0

This was a living nightmare. I've never felt so viscerally thrashed by a level in terms of design and jank.

In other words, it's exactly what I expect out of a 2.0 level, so you 100% hit the mark. Well done.
