Heavy Weapons Guy [Team Fortress 2] - The Heavy roars into the racetrack!

"Heavy race with walking egg and forest animals? Is very strange."
I would like to introduce my very first character mod for Ring Racers: TF2's very own Heavy Weapons Guy. A massive, lumbering bear of a mercenary, the Heavy is known for his boisterous personality, expertise with firearms almost as large as himself, and a penchant for taking snack breaks in the middle of a warzone. But this time, the Heavy won't be swiss-cheesing poor shmucks with his minigun...

Despite the crust i must commend the effort of getting the sprites through gmod, very soul. Did you use a kartmaker template for this or import the sprites manually?

Oh crap, I didn't know people are already in the addon's discussions tab.

To answer your question, I used kartmaker.exe and the assymetrical sprite template, both of which came pre-packaged in the downloaded game folder.

I'm aware of the sprites' crustiness, but that's just something that comes with creating pre-rendered sprites (I am extremely new to sprite-making and pixel art in general). I'm still happy with the results, however, and the CRT screen effect helps to make the crust look less bad. I would love to polish up the sprites in the future, so feel free to offer some advice if possible!

No worries haha. You're all good.

I'd personally recommend looking into the SRB2 Blender Template here (Says it's for vanilla but it should also work for Ring Racers). I'm aware from a friend who does model mods for another game that TF2 models can be a bit funky to work with, but there have been mods made with this kind of tool for Valve characters specifically (see the Half Life Scientist pack here) so it should theoretically work here also. The benefit of this would also be that you can theoretically squeeze a full 16-rotations out of the game, which I'm pretty sure is a feature in DRRR much like vanilla, although that might require manual importing. Besides that, my best suggestion is just going back to your Kart template and doing manual cleanup on the stray green pixels in your sprites, which should at least alleviate the crust in your current template.

It's almost done!

slippery sancocho updated Heavy Weapons Guy... And Friends! [Team Fortress 2] with a new update entry:

V3 (The Demoman Update)

After days of grueling trial-and-error, the black scottish cyclops is finally here!
  • Added the Demoman.
  • For rivals:
    • Added Demoman as rival for the Heavy and Scout.
    • For Heavy and Scout, added Bean as a stand-in for Demoman.
    • Removed Eggman from "rivals" array of each character's properties. I intended him to be a stand-in for Gray Mann, but I remembered that you don't actually face him in TF2 gameplay.
  • Added new hurt2.ogg sound file for the Heavy...

slippery sancocho updated [WIP] Heavy Weapons Guy & Friends: A Team Fortress 2 Pack with a new update entry:

V3.1.0 (The Heavy Update)

No, not that Heavy update.

This is a major-ish update meant to significantly improve the already existing content at the time of writing, most importantly the Heavy's sprites, as well as provide an overdue fix to some glaring issues. Sadly, no new racers this time, but I'll start working on the next one this month.
  • Added a brand-new spritesheet for the Heavy, with less crust, no misplaxed pixels, and improved lighting now consistent with those of the other characters...

V4 (Engineer Gaming)

The long awaited Engineer update.

I would like to apologize for releasing this late. You were probably expecting monthly updates containing a new racer, and I don't blame you. I was hoping this would be the case, but life and procrastination made it hard to deliver on time. But anyways, here's the hardhatted Texan boi I said I was working on, plus a few tweaks to the other racers.

  • Added the Engineer.
  • Fixed the paintable regions of each racer so there is less jarring contrast...
