I started the grind of adding the functionality to every door on the map. And I'm happy to say that with me converting to the UDMF map format, making these doors functional never was easier. Back in the binary format I needed 3 sectors and 2 tags to make the doors function. Now I need only 1 sector and 1 tag, which is a large improvement and this makes the overall dev time way shorter. :D​


And beyond the technical stuff, I added a corn object and new (unfinished) sections along with an introduction to puzzle elements of this stage! Mainly in the form of a switch of some kind. But that still doesn't mean it will be just that. The 90% time I spent making those new sections was spent on making the cool effects of pulling the lever. I especially like the light switch effect and I'm wondering If I should use it somewhere else in the stage too! (Even though my max darkness level for this stage is 150. -_-)

And I'm happy to say that I'm maybe 65% done with the main ost for this stage. I really want to share it, but I'm not sure if I should post it yet seeing how it's a bit unfinished. (Missing a whole section that I have in mind.) So I will give the power to the masses again. Should I post it now? Or should I wait until it's finished?
I'd say wait until it's finished, great progress though!

It seems that I have to hold my horses midi notes... :dramahog: But in that case, y’all have to know that the difference between v1 and v2 will be like night and day! :D

But I can at least describe how the song sounds like now, because I already did it earlier anyway. And I want to share at least a bit of it.

So it goes like this. The 2 first sections are slow, but still quite up beat and after that there’s a fast section that’s a small reference to v1, but instead of my poor try at the jersey club genre it will sound more... natural? That’s the best way I can describe it, but just know that this section has the most fire drum pattern I ever made and it’s easily my favorite part of the whole song. :3 And after that there will be a calm wind down section so the loop won’t be so harsh between lofi hip-hop and full-on DNB.

I’m not sure if I already shared this, but I also plan on making more music for this stage than ever before, so here’s my plan:
1. Main theme.
2. Farm field trip theme.
3. Camping field trip theme.
4. Theme based off the new light’s out ”event” from BB+ v0.8 for a night theme like in v1.0.
5. Maybe a remake or a remaster of the sunset lobby theme.
6. Some calm tunes for the art gallery, so you’ll be able to experience the most horrific horrors beyond your imagination with big’s fishing type beats. :3

And probably some more small tracks If the stars align.
 
I didn't manage to finish the track, but I made a new "secret" section. And I just realized that the time that would take to even get there would be longer than just completely skipping it, and for the effort you only get an extra life, which effectively makes this section kinda worthless. But I don't want to let it go because it seems cool and I don't know what I should do now. :sadthumbsup:

My preservation plan is that I will move it in place in which this section could be used as an actual shortcut, or just make it a part of the main path later in the stage. So what I should do with it? I genuinely don't have a clue and it makes it hard to focus on decorating the rest of the stage that actually needs some work. :C​
 
So I have a huge announcement. I have finally finished the main theme for this stage! :D
But it doesn't mean that I'm finished with it, because this isn't the final version, but instead it's a version that's fully complete, so just treat this as a v1.0 of this song that may or may not get slight tweaks.

I have really improved since the last time, but that doesn't mean that I don't need help nor opinions. This song might sound good to me, but some other people might find problems with it, so I rather play it safe and listen to what people also have to say about it.
(For fact I feel that the last section of this song referencing the intro jingle might get some tweaks or get entirely removed because I feel like it appears in a odd way and out of nowhere.)


And I also have some actual stage updates too!
But it's not that much, I finally decided to get rid of the secret supply room section and instead move it somewhere further in the stage and replace it with a simplier one:

I think I found kind of a pattern that I'll try to follow with future sections, so if a room is outside the main path and it's inside three layers of room, then it always will be a "special" or "bonus" room. A.k.a a lot of goodies along with the "secrets" poster.
I also added more decorations and functional doors and finally found out how to make the metal doors move without messing up the textures next to it. :>​
 
This is a bit different update compared to the rest, but it's still an update. I have quite a lot of ideas for gimmicks and how I could morph them, and I decided to finally test them out in terrain. So the sections/concepts you see here have a chance to be in V2 in one form or another.​


I plan to use that crusher thingy as a way to spice up the combat sections by you having to dodge strong enemies and lure them to a spot with a crusher and be fast enough to squash them all instantly by switching a button in a room. And the rest of the thingies here is basically self-explanatory... Yes, I am kinda in the "new year rush" so that's why I don't elaborate on this that much. Sorry. :C

But I still can say what I added back in the actual SSZ. So I added a new faculty room, made a new chalkboard that hints to a secret/puzzle that rewards you with an extra life, I made some tweaks to the main school track, added more decorations and made a new poster.

It's 7 p.m for me and I already hear fireworks going off and I rather not spent the start of the year by working myself, off so yeah.​

Those slope activations are actually a cool idea. I am really intrigued by it since you could make some interesting level sections with it.
 
There was quite a bit of time since the last actual update of this stage, but fortunately I've done a lot of stuff in that time period.

So I made 3 new posters:

The out of order one will be used for a secret area with 1st prize in it. And the misspelling of "unknown" in the attention poster was on purpose, the original poster also has it and I decided to continue the legacy of "unkown" >:3

Here's the footage of all the stuff I did.

So I added more decorations to the earlier and later version, made slight tweaks to the main theme, added a shortcut and a secret. And about that secret, I wanted that secret to actually be hinted towards in some way, so I decided to make this chalkboard.

So here's what it exactly says. The numbers next to the icons are the requirements for the secret to reveal itself so:
1. No hazards, aka no enemies.
2. Wait.
3. The secret is at the left side of the classroom.
4. Means that the one of the walls will open like a lockdown door.

Is it too obscure? I'm not really sure, but I rather ask first. Also I have a small fever after the new years so might forgor some stuff. :dramahog: (Not because of that type of "drinking" but because I drank cold water and then went outside in the middle of winter. -_-)​
 
I have a shmol update this time, I made three new classrooms and replaced the long classroom with an outside area, as a small foreshadowing for the further section being all outdoors. (And I'm experimenting with custom level card graphics. :3)​


And I have some rather spooky news, I'm either having a worse day, or I'm getting close to the b a l g i burnout. So I may focus on my other map for the time being, because I tried to make new sections... and nothing. I tried to work on music... also nothing. :C So... ye... We've run into a brick wall again. -_-​

Thanks, in moments like this one I just switch projects I work on for a bit variety. -v- (Which explains the peak in SA2 GHZ development speed. :P)

It's been a pretty long time since I made any update on this stage and it's because of more than few reasons. So for first, and the easiest one to explain is just school... But the rest is a bit more complicated, so now I'm going through... something, I can't really tell what it exactly is, but this can pretty much be called the great burnout... period. I've just been doubting my skills a lot since the start of this year which caused me to not be able to make as good level design as I used to do when I was confident in my own abilities. This also spilled out into me just not being able to work as much on stuff as I want to, and every time I turn on my PC I spend maybe 10-25% actually working on any of my maps, or doing anything productive... -_- I felt and still feel kinda tired, probably because I can't remember when was the last time I went outside to have fun and exercise due to temperatures dropping and snow falling. (And the way my body functions is pretty much just a plant, the less sun the worse... :dramahog:)

I feel kinda better now, but it's still not the 100% of the potential I always had, yet I still managed to do some stuff for SSZ, mainly some tweaks, and a new unfinished section. And this period also spilled into the way I act, so sorry if my way with words is odd.​


So I got rid of the supply closet shortcut, because you won't really know why you even should interact with lever in the first place if you never entered the main room, so it basically skipped an introduction of a pretty prominent gimmick I feel, and that might be confusing for the player later on. And because I can't make good shortcuts... :dramahog:

I also made a new faculty room and decorated the lever room. And the new section is based off a section from SSZ, just more full instead of a straight slope.​

So to end this thing off, I need time to recover, which will slow down the progress of my addon really badly, yet I don't want quit, I still want to have this stage hit it's full potential, but it's not really possible with the state I'm in...​

O h . . . You probably went only through like 25% of the whole stage in that case... There are both field trips in this stage, so the farm and the camping one... I don't really know how I should feel about this, but I know that this doesn't feel the best... (Remind me to make V2 more clear and easier to progress through than V1... :dramahog:)

There's not enough content for a full on demo sadly... :dramahog: Roughly 1 minute or 1:30 of gameplay, even less if speedrunning too... Also there's no reason to be one seeing how I release public demos either way. (But those will probably be released at the original W.I.P thread probably...)
