Ring Racers Suggestions

Another suggestion I could give is about the 'Redo Level' is allowing the vote to go through AFTER the race finishes. I don't mind redoing a stage online, but if I'm at dead last getting hit by everything I would rather retire than forcibly 'run it back' even though half the server isn't even done with the stage just because 4 people wanna play the stage again.

Just let the stage restart once everyone finishes and gets their points. Something so simple not being in the game is kinda silly.

I don't think i've seen this written here so here goes

There's a massive oversight with keyboard, more specificaly foreign keyboard (as in AZERTY keyboards and other keyboards with different arangements than the standard QWERTY keyboards)

I'm not sure why, the game seems to think that i'm using a QWERTY keyboard even though I am not, and when I try switching keyboard settings using Windows, nothing changes

The only reason I don't think it's a problem just comming from my side is because i've heard others in Multiplayer Servers talk about how irritating it is that they have trouble typing things because of the difference in key arrangements

I hope this is fixed soon as this is rather annoying/inconvenient

Requesting the ability to enable/disable certain tracks when you host an online server similar to how you can with the items. Been trying to get more people into the game and it would be much easier if I could just totally disable certain tracks rather than having to swat them away every time bad RNG happens on the voting phase

This reminds me: in the vein of many other suggestions about a specific course, I'd like to propose something that could help reduce the split of people unhappy with it

I would like if a successful nomination for Death Egg Zone prompted every player to make a second vote, choosing between an abridged and full-length version. I imagine a simple left/right choice pops up, like how Core/Modded is chosen in the Online tab. I would hate to see the current vision of Death Egg go, because I'm quite fond of it, but I feel I can't vote for it on online servers because it would be discourteous. I realize the random vote system is supposed to handle this already - even if my personal desire for a map is unpopular, I should theoretically "get a turn" eventually - but in practice Death Egg is so polarizing that I feel it would be inconsiderate to vote for it. Not to mention that I'm disincentivized from it too, because strict 12 Lap Dislikers would simply leave and not leave me with anyone to race with. So having a compromise you can vote on would allow me to consistently at least enjoy the track's layout, and then I could also get the full 12 lap experience if the majority of the lobby also approves of it.

Just thought of another thing but this is more to the community of creators than the devs.

I love and respect your creative passion but PLEASE stop making racers with perfectly middle of the road knuckles stats. We have far too many of those now 😵

I don’t see this here, so i’m letting my thoughts spill onto the forum. I’d really like to see bagging (In it’s current form, such as camping near items) gutted via an anti-bag flag of sorts applied to a player.

“Such as when an item box spawns for the first time, it has a period in which barely any powerful items can grabbed, and applying a flag to anyone who sits near item boxes”

Mario Kart 8DX has the same fix, as seen here.

Ringboxes may fall into a different category, and probably can be excluded from this change, but the best thing to is to encourage players to keep moving. This has been put to good use in Ibuki’s competitive lounge, which sets the AFK timer to 10 seconds to stop camping near item sets. However, the AFK timer is too brutal for netgames, as it kicks you into spectate as soon as you reach the set limit of said timer.

Idk if Kart Krew looks in here much since it's like 9 pages, but the competitive side of ring racers want something to counter bagger action, like the individual above; I'd suggest maybe some sort of power item timer when you're in radius of item boxes that bars out people from waiting for power items, and that could be adjustable by the server host.

Also, some sort of balancing to how the roulette remains slower in later laps when at a certain distance from top half that allows plotting out which power items you want a little too easy, as well as some tinkering to shrink (possibly lessening how long the lasers are out, or more balancing of the lasers adding to the grow timer).

Just some thoughts

my suggestion is:

add a doppelganger mode where you gotta beat the same character that your playing as in a certain time

(kinda like record attack but each character has their own time to beat)

In regards to the item bag solution, I have an idea. If the distance between the lagging and the pack is too high, the power items on the box should be replaced with the respawn light snake. The moment you roll it, the snake activates and warps you to the then-current location of, say, third place in a 8 person match... but because it travels to the then-current location, and travel speed isn't that high, the pack is gone by the time you get there, and you are flagged with being unable to find power items on the roulette for about 8 to 15 seconds. This way, both baggers and people who are actually playing this poorly are at least put close to where the pack should be, encouraging them to get a move on.

...It's probably not the best solution, and I'm sure KKD is already cooking up something better, but I also find the idea of an item box being so disgusted with your performance or exploitation that it forcibly drags you into the race to be really funny.

item sandbagging is already discouraged because if you get a box from a set, you cant get a box from that same set unless you fulfill a condition like going a lap or getting hit. its not perfect (see the jackpot stacking robotnik coaster runs) but i think it'd be unintuitive to add a second layer of prevention. if i had to give a suggestion to increase it, i'd say "spinout damage doesn't count for that reset", just so you can't Manually activate a new set of items. But i'm not even convinced that's necessary

I'd really like if online games constantly "exiting" was changed in some way, such that you don't suddenly realize "oh, I didn't actually Legally join the race." To my understanding, the game needs to kick you out on stuff like initial join or character switch for some other reasons, so maybe just a notice of "hey, you're not actually In The Game!" if a round approaches starting without you. I'd especially like if it popped up a prompt like when voting on retrying/skipping a course, but only for you, so once you see it you only need to press the action button to enter. Right now it's a little cumbersome - feels especially strange when you get the "YOU WILL JOIN THE NEXT RACE..." message, except no you won't, because you haven't entered yet. Maybe changing that screen to say "YOU WILL SPECTATE THE NEXT RACE..." if you've yet to join would also help

Yeah, I'm not quite sure what a second layer of anti-item sandbagging would do since, as Casual Koopa mentioned, a set of boxes are deactivated for a specific player if they've already picked up an item, until certain conditions are met (such as finishing a lap).

I do have one thing in mind now that I've finished all of the cups and gotten some secrets...

Please let us access Mean Blend Eye from the Lost & Found Special menu. Having to redo the hidden access route in Espresso Lane Encore just to re-fight it SUCKS (especially the pogo spring part). You don't even get anything for beating it!

That would be nice if it worked. Unfortunately, you can just activate a respawn (either by falling into a pit, or activating the respawn button for just a second), and grab those very item boxes you weren't able to grab before. I know this because I've exploited this myself when I was getting spray cans, I can only imagine other people have figured that out by now too.

And if not, well, sorry in advance, but that needs to be fixed.

You already can, it just requires a certain other unlockable first.
If you have SPB Attack unlocked, it can be toggled on in the Special menu when selecting Adventure Example - doing so puts you into Mean Blend Eye.

One request I have would be to expose a few more of the in-game variables and userdata to Lua.
Being able to change bot name sin particular would be nice, similar to how it's done in the test track stage in the tutorial.

Suggesting a GrowShrinkTimer cap for the Grow lasers.
Currently there's none, so you can last a long time grown even after the lasers are gone.
10-20 seconds cap should be good? Mostly so the focus is in touching the grow lasers and not the aftermath

This footage is about the most I could get. In regular games I've gotten around 30 seconds of Grow AFTER the lasers are fully gone.

Some fun facts about grow lasers:
-Every grow laser you touch gives you 6 extra seconds of Grow... regardless of being already grown or not.
-No matter if you touch the trail or the laser itself, you get 6 seconds

If you lose a level, then Emerald will have 1 less HP in the next attempt (up to 15), but I believe that this should not happen when testing the level (via editor, for example) - I've to re-enter the level through the editor or through the menu

Any chance we could remove the "continue" penalty from restarting the first race of a GP? I know it's not that big of a process the regular way but it's just a little more convenient?

Maybe just a "Restart GP" pause menu option in general for the mode would be very helpful. Especially considering how many of us are bound to restart the first race of a GP on later difficulties.

big agree on this. there is a ludicrously small chance for any one person to be in the position to prefer losing one life and getting the difficulty drop On The First Race compared to just restarting. But you could even avoid messing with this by having "restart GP" be a separate button. Maybe have an "are you sure?" for it, but it'd be a lot better than exiting the entire GP. Having that distinct button would also help a lot if you get stuck on the *second* race: early enough that you might want to reset about it, but Not-First enough that it *also* makes you say "no, I don't want to resume my old run." Looking at you, Storm Rig Zone
