To be completely honest, the SRB2 community is slowly dying every day, probably because of the lack of updates and mod leaks
 
Lack of updates? The game literally updated earlier this year. As for the mod leaks... it's bad, but acting like it's killing the scene is a bit silly. Things are slow now, sure, but we don't need the consistent hits of 2021 and 2022 to keep the community alive. I'm sick of seeing all these "the community is dying" threads, man.

It's just pointless pessimistic groupthink.

About the lack of updates, STJr works on this game on their spare time. It's not their job. They've also been working on 2.3 more than ever recently so obviously updates are going to become fewer and farther between because 2.3 is shaping up to be comparable to what 2.2 was to 2.1 as far as I can tell.

And about mod leaks, that's an aspect that's out of anyone's control. We can try to mitigate that but there's always going to be some impatient child somewhere in the world.

Even then, popularity isn't everything. It's okay for things to calm down. You shouldn't expect constant public interest forever. That's stupid.

I think he's talking about the volume of updates. (I doubt anyone would count hotfixes, btw :P)
The last non-hotfix update we had was 2.2.14 and it was released over a year after 2.2.13. Just because it was somewhat recent doesn't mean the game isn't being updated less.

SRB2's development doesn't depend on its popularity, and those who enjoy playing the game will do so with or without the rest of the community as well. Slow periods aren't a big deal, and the popularity will spike again when the next major update drops anyway. If the slower pace of things bothers you, you could try working on some mods of your own to contribute, or find other things to do with your time while you wait for things to happen with SRB2.

Moaning about it isn't helpful though. The community isn't about to come roaring back to life just because some random forum user is complaining about how dead they think the community is getting. The forums will still be here when things start picking up again eventually, so don't get so worked up about it and find other ways to enjoy your life while you wait. You'll be happier that way too.

The low point is expected because the bulk of development work is on 2.3 now. The same thing happened with 2.1.x as it wound down to eventually make way for 2.2.

There will be another 2.2.x version with minor new features and fixes yet, but all of the big new things like Ring Racers ports will wait until 2.3.

Now on total activity, keep in mind that over time it becomes more dependent on new content from the modding scene (because I do not think it is realistic to think that someone would, for example, continue to avidly play the official campaign after 5 years unless they are new to the game, even with different ways available to play it).

Even if it was dying, who gives a fuck?
You can still play it.
You don't need an Adventure Sonic size hit every damn year for a game to be alive.
Why must people assume shit's "dying"?

(As a matter of fact. SA.S itself got a major update few days ago so I'm not sure what "dying" he's yapping about. :P I bet that if X Sonic instead got a major update then this thread wouldn't exist smh...)
 
Tbh, this is a really bad mindset to have

a lot of people are working on stuff but sometimes you just don't hear about it. there's also still people joining the community too.

I'd consider it dead when we have literally no new add-ons for a whole year

as someone who's in charge of a semi large project/ collab, having stuff leak is not fun since it could spoil surprises that the team is excited about and could cause a add-on to be cancelled.
 
SRB2 Updates: if you think srb2 updates/forks are dead, you are very wrong. there are literal fan-made updates for srb2 that are still being made today like 2.2.16/17 (EVEN 2.1, 2.0 AND 1.09.4 HAVE FAN-MADE UPDATES)
Leaks/Recreations: this is not much of a big deal as people say it is. leaks of a popular mod maybe but recreations are pretty hard to remake, they just use stolen scripts without permission.
overall the srb2 community is FAR from dead because of very well-made mods being possibly released this year, and calling it dead because only a few mods came out this year is just dumb. you just have to be patient. people have waited 4-5 years for silverhorn to be released so you can wait longer for other mods
and also for cancelled mods.. demotivation is WAY more persistent in not only just the MB, but projects in general

They brought them up as a reason the community was dying in their eyes.

This is unfortunately a common trope of internet behavior these days, which is why it is very important to have the ability to control just who is let in. While the staff here can closely monitor everything for unwanted leaks, this is far from the only place where people might post them.

That would apply for collabs anyway, individuals meanwhile like myself have the option to just not post anything anywhere online unless it is seen as worthy to reveal, but that is not how everyone prefers to work especially if it involves a large scope.

It's a bit ambiguous in the wording, and could be taken either way. Assuming you are correct, if it were me sharing such a sentiment I'd word it "mod leaks and a lack of updates" so that the subject matter "mod leaks" doesn't come after "a lack of" to keep the spirit of what is being said clear. As actually worded however, it could be interpreted either way and requires clarification from the OP for us to know for certain what was meant.
