You know how I replied to a thread a few months ago, saying that I'd like to see a Super Sonic true final boss in the game, then explained how I imagined such a thing might work? Well, earlier today, I was randomly possessed by the urge to put that into practice. One evening later, I wound up with this!

A chase/race through space, catching up to Eggman as he escapes from the collapsing Black Rock Station with the ????. If you let him get away, he'll surely use it to ????, and we can't have that! ...Yeah, I couldn't really come up with a good justification for this to happen. Just enjoy the spectacle.

Eggman is trying to get away through this conveniently-placed asteroid belt, and you have to catch up to him. If you run into an asteroid, it'll bounce you back and waste a little time. If you catch up to Eggman and hit him, you'll get a few rings back.

I'm not quite ready to release it yet - I still need to have a friend do some playtesting, and there are a few things that could probably use some extra polishing - but it's mostly done. Even on release, it'll be a little bit janky, though, just due to the restrictions of the framework SRB2 gives you.

Has anyone else made a Super Sonic boss fight like this in SRB2 before? If so, I'd like to see it, just to see how other people handled it. I know a few NiGHTS bosses have popped up in OLDCs in the past, but I feel like those don't quite have the same high-spectacle spirit as Doomsday Zone and its plentiful derivatives.

That looks neat, I look forward to trying it.

In "Sonic and the Gunslinger" I had Super Sonic up against multiple copies of Fang in different parts of a canyon maze. You had to defeat the three copies before taking on the real one.

I used a transparent floor to simulate flight, which I think you did too.

Ah, right, I forgot about that! Yeah, that fight was pretty cool, even if the story surrounding it was a bit confusing.

And yes, the flight here is done via a transparent floor! I also gave the illusion of a proper chase via plane scrolling - the arena isn't really that big, but the meteors flying at you and the floor constantly pushing you back give the impression of moving forward.

Interesting, I never thought to use a scrolling floor.

There's also a Perfect Chaos boss fight somewhere, but I can't remember what mod it's in

Well, there was one mod, it was heavily inspired by Sonic Forces and it was more of a fight than a chase, but I really can't seem to remember the name right now.

Edit: Oh, yeah! It was called Destructive Illusion. It hasn't been talked about as much because the mod never got updated, but that's probably the closest actual example I could find.
