Blue Heaven [v0.6] - A v1.09.4 level pack port featuring 5 complete zones!

View attachment 82761

Sonic Robo Blast 2: Blue Heaven
a v1.09.4 level pack by Tets, ported by Radicalicious

SUBMISSION NOTE: Due to the usage of the UDMF map format, a recent build of next is required to play the mod until v2.2.11 releases!! Vanilla v2.2.10 will not work.

The Blue Heaven level pack for SRB2 was designed by Tets, known in real life as Bill Reed from 2003 to 2007 for SRB2 v1.09.4. Tets has since left the SRB2...

Radicalicious updated Blue Heaven with a new update entry:

v0.6.1 - a day one patch

I worked on the pack a little bit more after v0.6 was "done", so here's a day one patch containing the following fixes:
  • fixed Sound Test tracks all having an identical BPM
  • fixed v2.2 decoration being used instead of legacy v1.09.4 decoration (flowers, bushes, and snowmen)
  • ported the pre-v2.2 title cards (which I had lying around for SRB2 The Past months ago but never used)
  • fixed title screen demos playing when they shouldn't

so i have to wait till 2.2.11 releases? cause the way that sentence is worded is kinda confusing at least to me.

In theory, yes, but by compiling a build from source or obtaining one from one of the many merge request threads on GitLab you can obtain a build with UDMF support as the code is present in recent builds of the next branch. If you can't compile for whatever reason, ask someone on the Discord in #hardcoding and they'll probably help you out. Otherwise, you're unfortunately out of luck.

I decided to do so for maintenance reasons. UDMF is planned to be the default mapping format going forward, so having all the maps in UDMF now will save me the hassle of doing it later, say, for v2.3 if binary was chopped.

Plus, UDMF is way easier to map for and I want to MRv6 this pack at some point...

UDMF is planned to be the default mapping format going?
So else old maps packs won't work?
HEY WE ALL CAN LOST OLDC MYSTIC REALM AND SONIC 2006!

this was the crappiest decision ever, why release the port FOR the next build, when that SAME build is being worked on?
who knows, when that 2.2.11 is going to be released?
the binary format is still very reliable, so you dont have to use UDMF for it, what was the problem here?

Ah yes, the crappiest decision ever, forcing you to have just a little bit of patience! Foresight and future proofing is just so terrible when it comes at your slight inconvenience... :threat:

2.2.11 has been feature frozen, that means all new features have been implemented, and its simply in the bug-fixing phase. Release is not that far away.
Anyways if you want to play this nab latest buildjob from the stjr appveyor here:
And the necessary DLL to run it here:

not my fault lmao, you shouldn't release a mod, that gets delayed immediately because of the new version, and oh yeah, not everyone can compile the next builds of srb2 so ye, i hope the next big port gets delayed until 2.3 comes out

Radicalicious updated Blue Heaven with a new update entry:

v0.6.2 - a day one patch day one patch

This version fixes some title card code jank, which I deemed important enough to just release as-is. Consider this a v2.2.2 situation, if that's a relevant reference 3 years later. Don't expect regular updates, since for now this port is complete.

Also updated the thread to link a build of next + SDL so people aren't confused. Thanks, Othius.

Interesting that the staff here appear to be accepting mods that require a build of Next with UDMF, though since it is now more or less safe to port our maps to the new format, and since this pack is a new entry to the 2.2 maps section, I guess it is fine then as long as the release is not too far off.

Though for those of us who already have a pack on this forum, I would personally hold off on overriding the current download link with a UDMF version until the actual release. Otherwise, keep working, keep expanding, keep polishing.

Now I have played the first two full zones, it looks like something that would've been a feat for the SRB2 engine back then. At least it plays nice without issue.

I'll admit that I'm slightly upset that future versions of SRB2 won't be able to run any maps that aren't made in UDMF (and vice versa in the current versions) but that doesn't mean you have to act like a smart aleck, slamming people who are only just thinking ahead. The fact that you want the next port someone makes to be delayed because of this one level pack using UDMF for a future SRB2 update is a bit rude tbh.

If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

I'd like to add that binary format isn't getting axed for v2.2.11, and it will just be slowly deprecated in favor of UDMF. UDMF will absolutely be the standard for v2.3 and beyond though, and I have no doubts that binary could possibly be axed in the distant future. Instead of a coin toss of whether or not this outdated format will still be there, I'm making sure the pack will absolutely go to v2.3 with as little issue as possible. If for any reason you can't play v2.2.11 even with it being linked on the main thread and previously by Othius, please just be patient.

I do have a question. What if you played the Blue Heaven without using the UDMF version and used the latest version, version 2.2.10?

Loading the mod into v2.2.10 results into many features not working properly or at all, due to the partial UDMF implementation. Midtextures aren't pegged, water becomes opaque, platforms and crushers break, and all sector types are broken - including exit signs.

As I said, it's unplayable. :p

Alright then, so I guess it won't be playable in v2.2.10. Because you have to use UDMF of course, or wait for v2.2.11 to release

EDIT: He released the compatible v2.2.10 release, so guess now we can play that with the latest srb2 version yet

Why not? What harm does it cause to anyone? It's clearly communicated, and any mild inconveniences caused is completely inconsequential.

oh yeah, not everyone can compile the next builds of srb2 so ye
dear god romine I gave you a publicly accessible download link. You click the link, and it directly downloads the exe. How hard could that possibly be?

either way it was up to the judges whether or not to pass it through before or after 2.2.11 so you're really in no position to rag on Rad for any reason

where can I download this for 1.09.4 because I refuse to get UDMF
"I refuse to get UDMF"🤨 Why on earth would that be the case? I would sure hope it has to do with you being unable to download / run the file, and not a petty refusal to just use another version of srb2
