[February 2nd, 2026: The Reason]

I had part of a dream about saving the world. I know it was part of it because the dream picked up where a previous dream left off.

There was a large-scale war going on, and we were able to trace it back to a government military base. Due to how far it was in the future, security and confidentiality laws had lessened. That's not to say security still wasn't tight, but if you had connections or otherwise the skills or reason to make your way in, you could without being stopped.

There was a wish I made earlier (in the previous dream not documented here) for the war to end, not knowing of the monkey's paw nature of the wish: It didn't have to be a good ending.
The realization of what exactly I wished for is what pushed me and several others to start making moves, getting information, fighting with our own peacemaking force to become stronger so we could use the magic that did exist in this world.

After all that had occurred, we finally made it to the heart of the problem, the aforementioned government base where we learned that several recent experiments had gone terribly wrong involving both magic and science, causing an uproar and leaking great power that otherwise should have remained in check.

We made our way into the base using everything we learned to scale the outer wall, sneak in undetected, and "persuade" security that we knew what we were doing, even saved a worker from getting caught in the crossfire of another "visitor's" outrage after being denied from the government program.

After that, we had done about all we could for the day. The base was in lockdown because of the war outside, so the worker whose life we saved granted us access to the safe room within the base so we could continue our infiltration to the heart of the base and stop this unfortunate war another time...

The shelter within the base was nothing particularly special, similar to that of an older home: two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a common room, a kitchenette, and a storage unit. Getting the rooms sorted out for our stay didn't take long at all, then we cleaned up and got ready for bed.

In the middle of the night, I heard some squeaking coming from the storage unit. In fact, I could hear the sounds of raging war machines all night despite the security of the shelter, much to my dismay. Everyone else was still asleep, so I made my way over to the storage unit as quietly, but quickly as I could.

There wasn't anything out of the ordinary immediately visible, and everything we took inventory of was still there and accounted for. It was then I heard the squeaking again. Thinking it was a rat or other pest, I mentally prepared myself for the possibility of having to get it back outside or otherwise disposing of it.

To my surprise, it was not either of those things, but instead a really small kitten that oddly resembled my sister's own cat. It was crouched between the storage racks and the walls, shivering in the cold of the storage unit. I attempted to pull the storage racks out of the way, but it was near impossible because of how heavy they were with supplies. I knew I could get on the floor and crawl underneath them instead, but that was the last thing I wanted to do in a place like this.

I instead opted to call for the kitten that was tucked away where it was. It flinched in surprise, making me wonder if it could actually understand my speech, before standing up and walking past me to leap on the shelf behind me to get to eye level with myself. I was surprised its legs were as developed as they were, considering the kitten didn't look very old at all.

It stared at me with an expression of wonder in its big, round eyes, shaking itself dry from whatever it was wet from, and reaching out its paw towards my ears (I ought to mention that I had the form of an anthropomorphic rabbit that could turn into an anthropomorphic snake as well, as of recently throughout the course of these dreams). Amused, I folded my ears so the kitten could touch them, and a strange sensation filled my being, taking me out of the dream and waking me up!!!

[February 7th, 2026: The Beginning]

Before I went to sleep last night, I was thinking about the strange sensation I felt when that odd kitten laid its paws on my ears. I remembered that I felt it previously in the first dream I had before much else happened overall, and felt like I should properly write about its events here. However, my mind drew a blank whenever I tried to recall what exactly had happened, and I was mildly distressed. Figuring it wasn't worth beating myself up over, I opted to simply get ready for bed like I always have. Upon properly heading to bed, a familiar scene met me as I drifted off to sleep.

I was back in my hometown, before everything began. I had just finished college for the semester, and was back in town to spend the summer with friends and family. My brother wanted to go out for a walk by the lakeside, and I was itching to get out of the house myself. I was having no luck finding a summer job (an unfortunate truth that only seemed to repeat itself every year), and was feeling pretty down in the dumps. I figured that spending some time in nature would help remedy my lack of spirit, so I got ready to head out with him.

It felt nostalgic, talking with my brother as we went around the lake. There were a few people fishing and playing at the nearby park as well, which was refreshing to see in a time where technology has become so integrated within our daily lives (how ironic). As we were going around the lake, I heard a noise from the service plaza down the road, and stopped in my tracks to look in that general direction. My brother seemed to be confused by me doing so, implying that I was the only one who heard it. He called me crazy when I told him what I heard, which was disheartening, but I was compelled to investigate either way, so I ran off towards the service plaza, telling him to head back home and tell the others where I had gone.

Upon reaching the service plaza, I heard the same noise from earlier once again, but louder. It turns out that it wasn't coming from here in the service plaza, but the processing plant just behind the restaurant instead. I've never heard the plant acting up like this before, so I already knew something was wrong, but what it was exactly eluded me. Without thinking further, I jumped the fence around the plant and made my way in.

You'd expect a facility as important as a processing plant would have better security, but that was not the case here. It was within that I found a suspicious-looking guy attacking the facilities' staff and messing with their machinery. The staff seemed to be holding up quite well, but the machinery on the other hand couldn't be farther from alright, and looked like it was going to blow really soon. I tried to make my way around the fight to reach the machinery to see if I could do anything about it, before getting intercepted by the suspicious-looking guy. They stood in the way, looking at me with an expression mixed with curiosity and anger, but not saying anything or doing much else.

We stood off for a bit before one of the facilities' staff members took the initiative to try to fix the unstable machinery. The suspicious-looking guy immediately retaliated with a venomous projectile of sorts, and I snapped into action, kicking him and causing him to miss. He turns back to me, binding me with his tail (that, I'll be honest, had no idea was there) and glaring at me with sharp crimson eyes as I fall limp in their grip. The rest of the staff ran over to help the one brave coworker, and I figured that was the end of the line for me. Yet, they (the suspicious-but-highly-dangerous-poison-guy-with-a-snake-tail) spoke instead.

"Who are you, to foolissshly leap in the businesses of others?"

I tried to speak, only to find out I couldn't speak either. Meanwhile, the facility staff had fixed the machinery, and were cheering about their success.

The suspicious-but-highly-dangerous-posion-guy-with-a-snake-tail dropped me and prepared to take his leave, upset about being foiled, likely once again. It was then I made my response after catching my breath, and the only words of my own that I could make out clearly:

"Someone... who can't sit back and watch... while the world falls apart around them!"

The suspicious-but-highly-dangerous-posion-guy-with-a-snake-tail turns around with a rather twisted smile to address me directly:

"Then you've got a long way to go, rabbit."

With a lightning-quick leap, they bite into my chest and poison me. I feel weak while the facility staff rush over to stop me from falling over and call for help.

"However, I admire your conviction! Should you survive, you'll gain power sssimilar to my own. Make it your own, and find me again."

They laugh as they take their leave, and I fall faint to wake up with the same sensation I felt last night...

[February 11, 2026: The Power]

After finishing up a long overdue update for a project of mine, I got ready for bed. I was looking forward to the events of the next day, but had a lingering feeling that something was off. I was trying to get comfortable so I could fall asleep, but my racing thoughts were not cooperating. Eventually, I settled for lying limp on my bed, and something seemed to click into place as I immediately fell asleep...

There I was again, laying limp on the floor of the aforementioned processing plant in the back of the service plaza. It was nigh impossible for me to move, and I felt only the snake's venom rushing throughout my body. The facility staff were doing what they could to no avail, and I felt the fear of a slow, painful death. Suddenly, I remembered something from a book I read in relation to dealing with poison, and stopped moving to relax my body. If the venom was rushing throughout my body as I was frantically trying to move, stopping or relaxing that movement would slow it down as well, or at least, it should have.

Something else happened instead. The venom began flowing through my body slower like I expected it to, but my body was no longer getting weaker. In fact, it was becoming stronger, growing, and changing. My tail became long and springy, my teeth and tongue became smaller and sharper, and my limbs became bigger and stronger with more pronounced muscles. I could also move again, with greater efficiency than ever. The facility staff stepped back quite a bit, looking reasonably terrified, and I shot up from lying on the ground, bouncing on my tail in front of them. Was this the power that the snake was talking about? I wasn't certain, but it was certainly a power. I needed to find out more, so I exchanged thanks with the mildly frightened staff and took my own leave from the plant...

One thing that particularly bothers me was how vivid the transformation and growth was.
It was exceptionally more "detailed" than what I ended up actually writing down.
I decided against it because it might be considered sensitive content.

A transformation that occurred to me in a dream.

This is no place to get personal, so I'll say what I can and leave it at that.
I'm taking a break from development for very personal reasons.
The last thing you'll get in the foreseeable future is the Personalization Palace Showcase Video.
If I can find it in me, I'll chip away at Sonic Dream Blast v2.0 as well.

I hold on to a glimmer of hope that everything will be alright, but until then, Farewell.

The light of hope shines brighter.

After taking a little more than a month off to get my life figured out, I'm happy to say that I'll be returning to development with Sonic Dream Blast v2.0! I'm not sure how much I'll actually do beyond the rest of the main stages, but here's me throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what sticks:

- Dream Battle multiplayer maps! I've found out they aren't mine, but the original author's done their part. It's time for me to do mine...
- Better environments for Hillside Haven, Flowing Forest, Toxic Tours, and maybe even Altitude Amusement!
- Open Ocean: A seaside stage featuring palm beaches and radical reefs. Who knows what lurks in the depths?
- Icicle Island: A frozen isle sporting chilly peaks and frostbitten caverns. Steer clear of the swirling spikes!
- Magma Mountain: An active volcano filled with lava falls and boiling labs. Ironically, a steel-cold threat guards the core within.

- [REDACTED]: Find the chromatic crystals beyond the dream to open the way to a extra challenge for those who dare.
- [REDACTED]: The dream has been saved, but why do you remain asleep? YOU NEED TO WAKE UP.

That's that. See y'all later!~

Honkmimimi land seems a bit different.
(Glad to have you back)

3/18 Progress Report:
- All Music for Open Ocean, Icicle Island, Magma Mountain, Chromatic Conscious, and Escape to the Waking World has been compressed, imported, and set into the MUSICDEF.
- Level Headers have been defined for all upcoming stages, Campaign and Dream Battle alike.
- Progression and related Unlocks have been recoded.
- "Remastered" Dream Battle stages have been merged with the rest of the maps.

I'm in no rush to get v2.0 out by Easter, as nice as it would be, but the technical side of everything is as good as done!
I'll chip away at the maps themselves whenever I'm bored. :3c

It's been a while since I last "dreamed" at all. The following weeks after my last one had just been noisy black voids, usually filled with fragmented, incoherent speech. I received the impression that something was calling for me, but every time I tried to respond, I would wake up in a cold sweat instead, at only 3 or 4 in the morning. It persisted up until last night, where something new happened instead:
I was on a nondescript beach, looking out at the setting sun. As the slow, soft waves lapped against my bare feet, I heard a melody out from the open sea. It was a comforting, compelling tune that felt directed towards me. Due to financial troubles, I had to take on a new, larger schedule for work. I had little time to relax, and most of my free time was spent catching up on schoolwork for my classes. The previous nights being filled with noisy voids didn't help either, and my quality of sleep was degrading. To be here, on this beach, looking out to sea, and listening to this melody that seems to be crafted for myself in particular by something, or someone, was rightfully entrancing. I wanted to find where, or who, it was coming from. I walked into the sea, first wading through shallow waters before lifting myself up and beginning to swim towards that comforting song of the sea. I had no difficulty pressing through the waters as I was a good swimmer, the only issue came from me beginning to tire quickly. My stamina has never been the best, so having to stop and breathe periodically was something I usually had to do. The problem here was that the middle of the sea is no place to take a break, especially with all the potentially hostile marine life I could not see below the surface of the waves. I pressed onwards as far as I could, before running out of energy and simply lying there in the middle of the sea. Some time passes without anything happening, as I try to breathe and catch my breath. Stopping again, I heard the melody from before filling my ears as the waves gently rocked me up and down. It reminded me of what a mother would do for her infant when they cry in the night, unable to sleep. I lie there in the midst of the waves, looking up at the stars and listening to the song of the sea whilst my eyes slowly closed on instinct. Once they were closed, I felt the jolt of a rushing current picking me up, and everything went white as I woke up.
Writing this now, I don't know what the deal was with those noisy voids that filled my slumber for the past few weeks, but the fact that something different finally happened last night, albeit the abrupt ending, has provided me likely the best rest I have had in a long time. The melody from my dream remains clear in my head, indescribable by words. I think I'll pick up my old keyboard and try to recreate it.

Dreams are weird, man. ;-;
Glad you had good rest, though!!!

It's funny how this relates to development in a roundabout way, since Open Ocean is slated to be the next map completed.
Still need the free time to work on it though. I've been really busy with work and school since the break.

When I went to bed last night, I was thinking about how small I was. I feel I should add that it certainly wasn't in a literal sense (6'4" male, and larger than most people I've met by a couple of inches besides my brother, give or take). Rather, I was small in knowledge of the wider world around me. I don't watch the news. Every time I've tried it's just been depressing shit like how many people died in the latest disaster, be it natural or manmade, and the latest things the government's done to fuck over everyone other than them and the rich guys that they're buddy-buddy with. I'm not a psychologist to know what's going through their heads, or a politician myself to be able to debate the logistics behind everything they're doing other than "it's bad."

I know things could be better in the world, I want them to be better, but I can't help but feel I'm too short of understanding to do anything about it. Instead, I've adopted a sense of naivety regarding everything, "if I hold faith in the desire that everything will be alright, and that things will eventually work out for the better, I can simply focus on my own part." My mother often said that it's not a bad sense to have, to keep my head held high and ignore the worst that comes your way, but those people that are truly evil will see that too, and will exploit me because of it. If anything, I suppose my biggest dream is to change the world for the better with what I do, but I need to be bigger in spirit and understanding first.

My dream last night seemed to be nothing more than a continuation of the last. I had washed up into a rather large aquatic hollow, drained and hungry. Colorful coral lined the walls, reflecting light off of the waves and onto the ceiling of the hollow. As I sat up, my face was hit by the brunt of the reflected light. It didn't blind me, but instead filled me with warmth, rousing me from an otherwise drowsy state getting washed ashore(?) left me in. It was then I heard that oh-so-familiar tune from back on the beach, clearer than ever before. Someone was singing not far from where I currently was, but I did not have the strength to get to them. Instead I laid back, resigned from the long swim and getting dragged through the current.

To my side was an array of tropical fruit, likely left behind by someone who found me here and taken from a nearby beach. I cleaned my hands with the flowing water leading back outside before taking some and sitting back down to eat my fill. I was careful not to take too much, under the minor possibility of it, in fact, not being for me. As I was eating, someone came beside me and sat down before attempting to speak with me. I couldn't understand them, but their expressions and body language implied they were relieved to see that I was actually alive. I attempted to reply and keep the conversation from feeling one-sided by mimicking their mannerisms, but they laughed, probably because I had no idea what I was trying to say. Then, they started to sing instead. This I understood: The one that was calling out to me on the beach, was none other than them. Ecstatic and enamored, I took a breath before matching the tune they were singing with my own voice. As our duet filled the hollow, in that very moment, I felt that no matter what came next, I could handle it with melodious confidence. As everything faded to white as I woke up the next day, I felt a warm light like no other, enveloped in glorious melody.

As I woke up from that luminous, song-filled dream, I looked at my calendar. It was Easter Sunday. The first thing I thought about was what happened on this day, many millennia ago, when the light of the world pierced through the tomb. Maybe, in another way, this dream was similar to that ancient miracle. It now occurs to me that I can't recall the face of the person who sang to and with me during my dream, but there's likely a reason for that, as is the nature of dreams. I would say I have to find that person here in the waking world, but I can't help but feel I've already met them... How odd.

The next.
To reiterate, this is the audio-and-video version of the post from April 5th.
It's later than I would like it to be, but here, nonetheless.
I will likely do the same for standard development posts as they occur from here on out!

New design for Lucas that takes a little bit from all of his past designs.
He's ALSO the "Visitor" for Sonic Dream Blast v2.0's A Side!
Can you guess who the "Visitor" is for the B Side?

Sydia follows suit, complete with her... mildly obsessive wolfish attributes.
As such, she doubles as the "Visitor" for Sonic Dream Blast v2.0's B Side.
Only time will tell how their adventures through Nightopia and Nightmare will unfold!
