Retro Monitors

Retro Monitors v2.3.2

i am still wondering how to activate the specific monitor sprites
If you're talking about the different eras of the Final Demo monitors, there's an object field in the "Edit Thing" window in Zone Builder called "Parameter" (renamed to "Behavior" for these monitors) that chooses which era the monitors should emulate. The README included in the PK3 has details for which era each parameter emulates.

If you're talking about the actual sprites themselves, the monitors for each era (besides Final Demo-2.0) of SRB2 have their own object types, all categorized under the "Monitors" list in the "Edit Thing" window in Zone Builder. You should be able to find them there.

Shield and UDMF Update

This update brings a couple of new features, including era-appropriate shields!

CHANGES:
  • Shield monitors now give the player an era-appropriate shield, instead of a 2.2 equivalent!
    • This behavior can be disabled by setting the "Extra" flag on the monitor's map thing in Zone Builder.
    • Additionally, Demo monitors can now have their "Parameter" field set in Zone Builder to give players an XMAS shield (displays below the player instead of on top).
  • UDMF...

i am actually kinda shocked they put the old shields in the game, i commend you for somehow working them out
i did notice that the force shield from 2.1 looks purple, might just be me or 2.2.13 though...

"MIDIMan" updated Retro Monitors with a new update entry:

2.1 Shield Update

This update changes two shields from 2.1 whose sprites were changed in 2.2.

CHANGES:
  • Updated the 2.1 Armageddon and Force Shields to use their 2.1 sprites.
  • Made changes to the "era-swapping" code (LUA_SHLD) to be more modular.
    • Modders should now be able to pick and choose which shield orb objects they want in their mod(s) without worrying about SRB2 spitting out errors for "unknown object types".
Special thanks to...

Recycler Bugfix and Improved UDMF Support

This update brings better UDMF support, as well as a bugfix for recycler monitors.

CHANGES:
  • Improved UDMF support!
    • Arguments are now properly labelled in Ultimate Zone Builder.
BUGFIXES:
  • Fixed a bug where the recycler monitors wouldn't transfer any shield's era between players.
    • A_RecyclePowers has been re-programmed from the ground up in Lua to handle this, so it may cause conflicts if used with other addons that re-write...

1.1 Monitors and Renamed Scripts

This update brings a new "1.1" era option for the Final Demo monitors, and renames all scripts to be more clear in what they're for.

CHANGES:
  • Added a new era option for the Final Demo monitors (1.1/IRC Match beta).
    • Similar to 2.0, but with a couple of differences:
      • The Armageddon Shield is black.
      • There is no recycler monitor.
      • The spawn randomization uses Final Demo's system, rather than 2.0's "strong" and "weak" randomization pools.
    • For...

TGF Power-up and Whirlwind Shield Bugfixes

Just a small update this time.

CHANGES:
  • Makes the TGF power-ups physically disappear if they shouldn't respawn (co-op, Special Stage, etc.).
  • Makes the TGF time power-up play its collect sound effect from the player rather than itself, like the other power-ups.
BUGFIXES:
  • Makes the Whirlwind Shield use the correct color when obtained from a 2K3-1.08 era monitor, even though it didn't exist before 1.09.

I got an error in zone builder for the demoyellowbox lua. Idk why but I can't seem to fix it. Also none of the custom objects in my mod are appearing in zone builder either, idk if its related to this error but they're just gone. All the FD crawlas i put down from badnik pack dx are seen as missing objects. (Edit: just moved the monitor's lua to a "Momentarily Unused" folder turning them off and the crawlas came back, so the monitors are the problem on that side, just how do i still include the monitors without them breaking my mod's objects?)

What version of Zone Builder are you using? I can not get this error to show up in the current version (v3.2).

For some reason certain demo monitors aren't loading (EX: armageddon and elemental) in srb2 but load perfectly fine in zone builder, i've tried everything but only loading the retromonitors file itself works. Problem is since SPSTART is set to b0 on that mod I can't just tell people to also load that addon. I haven't implemented all files from the addon because i really just need demo monitors but i have tried adding all files for all era monitors and it wouldn't work. Do i have to use init.lua or something?

The "common" scripts need to be loaded before the other scripts in their respective category/era. I would recommend looking at the init.lua script in the PK3 to see what order the scripts are loaded.

ohhhhhhhhh, thx midi! Guess im adding the lua to the maps wad.

Another small update.

  • Replaces undefined var1 and var2 variables for the Demo monitors' MobjDeath hooks with 0.
