How do I change sprites in someones mod?

Is there any way to edit sprites of mod characters? I want to give Soap shoes to Modern Sonic.

And the same question about vanilla characters. I dislike their sprites....

ask first
you cant unless you ask permission
brother in Gaming, permission is required if the intention for the mod is to be released publicly. this was neither made explicit nor implied in any way

Of course.
Basically follow the same procedure as you would for making a custom character, but instead of S_SKIN, you use a P_SKIN. Place the new sprites under the lump, making sure the name of the sprite lumps match the sprites you want to replace.

(Take this with a grain of salt - I believe this is the way to do it, but it's been a while since somebody patched a skin lol)

I know its been more than a year, but its better late than never. Thank you very much!💛

Just for the record, you only have to get people's permission if you're posting it online. I've got a PK3 on my computer that's just a compilation of mods I usually use together to cut down on load times and improve their compatibility with each other. I have an alternate version of a character mod that slightly adjusts one character's ability to be usable in more situations. I have a custom version of a palette mod that has the saturation decreased by 25% because I was tired of having to adjust the saturation every time I wanted to switch whether or not I was using it. Hell, I even have a custom music pack for personal use with nothing but songs from other games. As long as it's for private use, you can do what you want forever.
