The dumbest man
Hello! In this thread I'll post WIP and any interesting stuff that I've made in ZB/UZB
Mysteries Zone
At the moment I want to do a complete rework level that I did three years ago. I made a lot of mistakes and gained some experience, so I decided to make it from scratch in UDMF.
Despite how terrible ATZ level is, I really like its aesthetics and atmosphere. I'ld like to try to bring this to the absolute. I'm planning to make three levels, but you can't choose characters, you take turns playing as three characters - Sonic, Amy and Fang. Unlike regular ATZ, there are a lot more puzzles and overall the gameplay is much slower. Slow gameplay in a sonic game? are you mad?
Puzzles are actually not very easy. PUZZLES IN A SONIC GAME? Dude, what are you writing?
Of the puzzles that are in the current demo-level, there are interesting ones that I'll transfer with a little modification, but there are also those that I don’t like. The main problem is that you are underwater and constantly drowning (surprising, right?). But if just place an Elemental/Bubble shield, then the whole point is lost... I think? I don't know exactly. Although I liked one gimmick in my demo-level - the shield is simply located in the corridor, but if you pick it up, a trap is activated and you need to go through it without taking damage so that your reward remains with you. I need to think about this.
The main gimmick, besides the puzzles, is that the levels are specifically aimed at using abilities. I chose these three characters because I think that playing normal levels doesn't fully explore the abilities of these characters even if you go through a path that is designed specifically for them. Amy and Fang can interact in interesting ways with monitors, badniks, springs, and slopes. Sonic, I think, is the most misunderstood character in terms of his abilities.
Another gimmick - you need to collect chaos emeralds that are located on the level, however, they send you to other sub-levels from vanilla company (technically, they teleport to another area on the same level). My demo level only has a draft version of ACZ, but I want it to be about the size of ACZ1. This is actually not very easy to do in terms of map size. I don’t know if it will be possible to make a truly live sub-level.
I recently started making a level. UDMF was a bit tricky, but it's going well now.
Music Box
I love platformers. One day I came across The messenger - side-scrolling action-platformer and I really liked one level from this game - Platforms on the level move to the rhythm of the music. So I thought, is it possible to do something similar in SRB2?
I was able to create such a monster, which works perfectly with the help of linedef 450
Monster at work. This mechanism moves the floor, the ceiling, and both one, two, three... nine or ten steps. The size of these steps can be easily changed.
For now I'm just messing around with this, because I don't have much idea what can be done... I'll definitely make a level in the future
I'ld like my own textures, but I'm bad at drawing :^
Here are a few things I made because why not (you might have seen some of this in srb2-discord):
