Who has been randomly hit by viruses and spyware?

That's strange, the other day this computer that I am on now kept opening internet explorer, and when I opened Task Manager, there were three weird programs, that I know did not belong, so I run Microsoft Security Essentials and Spybot, and it found one Trojan downloaded, Some malware that downloads more viruses, and just some spam malware. I found it weird, I did nothing to my computer recently. Anybody being hit by any Viruses lately?

Man, I almost was in a panic. I just recently brought this computer back up from the grave, for it's hard drive was shot. And I'm still getting my Gaming PC set in it's BIOS. I swear.. The Internet gets more dangerous every damned day, it seems.

Arrg, I have to deal and fix the sort of messes on other prople's computer for the last couple of weeks. If people would follow some simple rules, they wouldn't be hit by malware.

1) Stop using using the admin account all the time, just use a limited user account till you need to install/configure something.

2). Use ad-blocking software, some ad networks do not check the ads they run, and are used to push out malware.

3) Keep your software up to date (or disabled), like your bowser, flash, quicktime, java, AV, and the OS. A peice of software call PSI can let you kown if software needs updates.

I advise running a scan with Malware Bytes to get rid of stragglers. Also if you don't want to switch accounts all the time, shift right click allows you to run a program as any user (select Run As).

Seriously though, use Firefox or Chrome, use Adblock too.

I've recently have gotten a lot of those persistent, fake "anti-virus" trojans that ask for your credit card numbers. Oddly enough, those types of viruses have only struck me whenever I've visited Wikia pages.

If all else fails get superantispyware. It actually works and its free. My computer systems teacher told me all about it and I knew she was probably right. I got more adware and trojans revealed in the superantispyware scan than I did with norton!

Getting into the topic's title:
Eh, you can bet my computer's got plenty of viruses, now, if I give a damn about it, it's another story. If I ever have problems, I open my task manager and force programs to close.

Either way, it's not like there's "OMGUBERAHAX0RSECRETOFTEHUNIVERS1234321!" information on my computer, so I don't really care being spyed.

A virus struck my computer when I still used my danie account. Then I had to have another email but afterwords I forgot my passwords and had to get all new accounts, I was Angry.

Yeah... No. Tracking protection won't protect you from viruses, since they usually use exploits in the browser, and IE is generally target #1. There's also social engineering techniques, such as tricking you into installing it yourself.

Yeah, I switched to Firefox a long time ago.. Got tired of the IE nonsense. Xrl.exe Xrm.exe were the names of the two mysterious files that I got rid of. Malware, Trojans, Trojan Horses, and Trojan Downloaders. all in just they two mysterious two files, which one day randomly popped up. I'm thinking it was a hacked javascript or flash object or something.

Yes, NoScript is really useful, but I only use it to block XSS attacks (ClearClick) and to manually block scripts.
I do not use the "block all scripts" standard setting because it blocks way too much things I actually do not want to block. I find it annoying to manually allow each script before I can use it; but I know that that would be more safe.

I use Linux and I never had any Linux virus in my life. And if I should get a virus some day, ClamAV will be happy to kill it. :D ;)

No, I recommend keeping NoScript on the whitelist mode. Reactive security never actively stops threats. All it can do is clean up after the fact. The proactive security is what makes NoScript so great to begin with.

I have to say I found NoScript to be more of a nuisance than it was a help, having to allow every site's JS got very annoying after a while.

Maybe a ad that when showed downloads a trojan that itselfs downloads other viruses etc.?

Well a couple of months ago my computer was infected with a really nasty piece of malware. F*ck you Sony Multi-Products Keygen.
P.S. That was downloaded for Sony Vegas

I haven't gotten a virus in fucking months, prolly cause I spend my time playing Steam games.

Last time I got a virus it was from piracy I think and it disabled my Windows Aero, fucked up my Internet, and took away my Create New Text Document button from my right click menu which Notepad++ kindly gave me back. Windows Aero was a matter of enabling DWM and Microsoft Security Essentials now takes care of my virus issues.

Haven't gotten effective viruses in a long time. I say effective because I have downloaded several viruses, fake registry keys, and trojans, but none of them have affected my system (so far) in any recognizable way. I use Malwarebytes AntiMalware and Spybot Search and Destroy. These two are both free and work amazingly well. Their databases are updated just about every day. I just download whatever I want, install them, and then run these two. I don't even worry about keygens giving me trojans anymore. Perhaps this is a bit wreckless, but those two just work so well that I haven't had any problems for the past few years.

I did on this laptop and it was from a keygenerator. :/ It installed some real nasty stuff called "100Ksearches". It didn't matter what web browser I used or what program I tried to get rid of it... It didn't go away and I decided to format the laptop and now I created an image that would bring me back to a pretty usable state within an hour or 2 instead of like 6 hours. :)

I was on this website and randomly got a virus that made everything close and i couldn't do anything so i had to kill the computer and buy a new one.
