What is with you guys with recolor wads?

In the long run, if you don't like the rules, you can quite easily leave, nobody is forcing you to stay here except yourself. To be honest, we could really do with less people complaining about the rules, which have a perfectly good reason to exist and be followed.

Fan Characters suck. Period. Having a comic doesn't make a difference. It is just a terrible sprite clash like there always is.

Try to make an interesting WAD. Having Sonic with a Darker color doesn't make a difference. Nor does powers, taunts, or hyper forms.

I'm not complaining about the rules, I'm making a rant about recolor WADs

Sik, around here the word "recolor" and "fan character" became synonymous somehow. Senku's WADs aren't really recolors, but since the word basically started to mean every fan character ever, they still fit in the bubble here. Obviously he did a little more than recolor the darn things, but they're definitely still fan characters.
Why arent Senku's Characters recolors? Adding clothes doesnt make it a recolour you/someone said, well that's what senku done, just because he put effort into it dosent make it not a recolour, he's just a brown sonic, with clothes on

He means: "It is, but at least something came out of it."

The main problem is that making a REAL character requires drawing about 200 sprites by hand, something that basically nobody except AJ is interesting in doing.
I would do it if the scanner was working >_> (confirmed, the photo trick simply is a pain in the back of our body, for not saying the exact word).

Besides when making a comic that you're going to put yourself in, a fan character is pretty much required, otherwise you'd be playing a natural character like the author in Sonic and Pals
And you know people often hate those comics, right? :P I must admit, according to what I heard SRB2-Town was an exception... but crap, I never made Sonic look like a stupid or myself look like God >_>

And what does something about a comic have to do with SRB2?

Then your fanchar is a recolor. Seriously, because a character is a hedgehog it automatically is a Sonic recolor? >_> Senku has many changes to be merely a recolor, because if I'm not wrong, he doesn't have just clothes... What about the thing he has between his eyes? :P

Well actualy, if you think about it, all fan characters are recolour of someone, Light Dasher may not be a Recolour of Silver, But he's a recolour of sonic (in a way)

No, he's meant to be an enemy (a boss really if it ever gets into SRB2), so no WAD for you all D:

They're fun to make, but you probably wouldn't know since you hate them

I've done work with characters, and I hate recolors.

It's fun to make characters, yes, but it also soon starts to take effort. Putting effort into anything is important, and recolors take no effort. None. Try making real characters that people want to see.

First off, *throws Mystic out a window* how dare you dislike my wads, even if they are supposed "recolors"(Still attempting human spriting). :< Next I don't mind recolors much, but lately I have been seeing a lot of really CRAPPY ones ones with weird overpowered S_SKINs and stuff, such as thrustfactor 6 and 8, normalspeed 58, and other junk. Then you got the sprites themselves, a red sonic with yellow stripes all over him blue eyeballs and etc. Some characters look pretty nice though, such as Nitro's character though he always seemed like a Nitemare rip in a way. Also about that drawing and scanning characters thing, I've actually tried that before. It came out like crap, so I see why others might not do it. I might try it again sometime though. Anyways, long story short, work carefully and slowly after you think your ideas through and you'll most likely come up with something great.

For normalspeed, SRB2 would set that as 36 because it'll never go over that :P

Anyways, about the scanner thingy, make sure you scan the images really large, then convert them to purte black and white. Might look crappy at first, agreed :P But color them (use any auxiliar lines if needed), then scale them down making sure the sprite gets filtered, and no, bilinear isn't enough in most of the cases. There you go, sprites will look amazingly well :D

What is worse than a recolor, rip sprites from a different game, that is ever worse. and even worse than that, recolored ripped sprites from a different game.
