Hey everyone, here to make a quick update on how the project is going.
1. NEW CHARACTER IS COOKING, specifically the Decepticon: Barricade. The reason why I've decided to add Barricade is due to similar Car, shooting and climbing mechanics, so I can reuse a lot of the script.
Of course, I'm planning on giving Barricade a different special ability from Jazz, as you recall Jazz is inspired by ROTF where he's able to speed up temporarily whenever interacting with rings, killing enemies, or using springs (Props to Blackout07 for giving me the hint). I'm thinking of giving Barricade some predatory or chasing ability to reflect his personality and police mode: perhaps being able to sense enemies through walls, or scaring enemies in the vicinity. But what would you like to see Barricade's special be? I'm open to discussion! There's my unfinished concept for a standing sprite, but I'll change quite some things about it.
2. I'm experimenting on the last ability I'm planning to add for Jazz, which is the breakdancing move. The duration is a bit meh as well as having to let go of the gas button to activate it, but it will be released in the next update.
3. The major things to be done are the following:
a) Adjust Barricade into the mod, so give him the Jazz's ability of Car mode, climbing, shooting (having different weapons) and implement unique special
b) Finish Jazz's special ability
c) Continue the sprite work by focusing primarely on Jazz first, while simultaniosly having a little progress on Barricade.
4. When I will be finished with all aforementioned goals, I could be open to the addition of the new transformer characters in the future. Since the last one to be added is a Decepticon, my next probable pick would be an Autobot: probably picking from 2007 movie characters such as Optimus Prime, Ratchet, or Ironhide. But these plans are quire far ahead since I really wanna get first Jazz done then Barricade.
5. Next update will be released when I get my hands on it, but the Jazz's breakdance should be somewhat playable and drawn. Barricade might have his alternative mode functionality ready too, we'll see. It's kinda hard to balance the mod creation with college :3
But what do you guys think? Should I give all my attention to Jazz first? Should I work on sprites of Jazz while doing Barricade's mechanics? Do you have any current complains about the mod? I love every bit of feedback I'm getting since it gives me a direction and sense that people enjoy the mod!
I think you should focus on jazz for now, working on multiple projects at one time can make you burned out. as for barricade's moveset, i think you should base him on ROTF game sideways, since he looks alot like him.

That sounds fair, I would be focusing entirely on Jazz, specifically finishing final ability, some rebalancing, and doing a lot of sprite work. Right now I figured to completely simplify the color choice and focus on shapes because I've noticed a lot of inconsistencies in the current sprites.
All the barricade source sprites and some code will be in included in the next update, and also I will be renaming the mod and pk3 to focus on "Transformers" as a hole instead of just Jazz to include future characters. You've probably noticed the discussion was renamed. But Jazz will be the only one getting updates until he's decently finished.
Thanks a lot for the feedback! The frequency of the updates would probably be lower due to college taking time, but I'll try my best to deliver!

Take all the time you want. little by little, you're gonna make progress. don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it tho, there's plenty of people who'd be willing to help you out.

1. Breakdancing ability: Press spin on the ground during Car Mode to transform into the bot AND hit enemies in your way. Holding the spin button will extend the duration of the ability.
2. In Car Mode, now the Spin and Jump buttons are remapped to "transform" instead of "movement". Jump will transform and make Jazz jump instead of applying Gas. Spin will transform and start the breakdancing ability instead of applying Breakes.
3. Some HUD work, made it look a little bit more simplistic
4. No spring empowering, I figured that since Jazz is quite small compared to other Transformers, it doesn't make sense for him. Also, Jazz can only break walls and spikes when driving into them in the Car Mode
5. Weapon ring requirement! Now to use two long-range weapons, you must have a minimum number of rings. For a slug repeater you need 3 rings and a crescent blaster needs 5 rings. This is primarily done to try and balance the easy damaging capabilities of the long-range weapons, especially in the boss fights.
6. Sprites are being worked on, which is why you can notice a simplistic color for the sprites. Since I'm not an artist (at best amateur), I thought it would be better to reduce the number of colors to focus on maintaining the correct shapes.
7. Renaming the project .pk3 to Transformers instead of being just about Jazz. All the work will still be towards Jazz, this is primarily done to account for future Transformers characters to be added. (There are some Barricade sprites :3)
Hey there, just wanted to keep you updated on the new look of Jazz. I'm still trynna experiment with shapes, colors and proportions of the character. Hands are not done yet tho!
The PNG below shows the thought process from my very first to the newest prototype. I'm trynna add more shiny and bright coloring while maintaining a relatively small color pallete to ease the process of animation. I would love your feedback!
Hey there, here's my rotation concept (with pallet) for the neutral sprite which will serve as a reference for all of Jazz's in-game animations. This is NOT the standing sprite, his standing (and walking) sprite would probably have him cross his arms to portray his nonchalant personality just like in the previous versions.
To save some time and ease the animation process, I've decided to not draw a lot of arm and leg rotations. Legs only have front, side, and back rotations; and arms actually have only a single front rotation.
What do you think about these sprites? I'm paying attention to any suggestions and concerns! The next sprites I'm planning to draw are: Standing -> Walking -> Running -> Jumping -> Falling;
I had some time to polish a few standing sprites, as well as finally completing the car model. There's a new icon for having an empty magazine as well.
Planning on drawing more sprites, and I think I should do something with the climbing mechanic, because sometimes, instead of climbing, you just transform into the vehicle. And also, I definitely will tweak the transformation inputs and the transformation breakdancing move.
There are four little parts to this little update. Just want to let you know that I want to focus on adding Jazz's sprites and mechanics first.
1. The main part of this update is a (barebone) addition of Starscream.
It's nothing too special. Right now, he can only transform into his Jet Mode and jump higher; no other abilities have been added yet.
What abilities should I add? I will most likely add 2 weapons from the ROTF game, of course.
I still want to focus on sort of finishing Jazz first, the only real reason Starscream made it into the roster is because he was sitting in my source files as the first Transformers character I've attempted to make a long time ago. I also have Blackout's front stand sprite somewhere else with a transform script, but I won't care about it now.
2. I've replaced a little bit of old Jazz's sprite work with the current, more blue-ish color. Just the shooting, waiting, and transformation animations. I'm hella procrastinating on it, but hopefully all angles of walking and running will be up in the next update.
3. Also, I've made it so that you can only transform with Custom 1 or Custom 2. So now you won't accidentally transform into a car when trying to climb as Jazz, it was so annoying, I swear.
4. I've also considered changing the weapon system to be more like ROTF.
Right now, the enemy (except bosses) die immediately because they have one HP, but I wonder if it would make it so that you require to hit like 2-3 times to damage once. Shooting bosses would not be insta win now >:3
If implemented, I'll remove the requirement to have a minimum rings shoot because you will be shooting much more obviously
Also, it would probably be balanced to allow shooting projectiles while in the vehicle mode
Plasma cannon should probably do twice as much damage to be useful
Honestly, the best part of making mods for me is the programming part. I'm not a good artist, so this is the reason I'm sort of procrastinating a lot on Jazz's sprites. I fully intend to make a sufficient amount, but sometimes I just want to have fun with making abitlies which is why I've added Starscream (and sort of Barricade) into the main roster.
Plus, now there's a jet and a car to be playing with, which is kinda cool. I haven't seen SRB2 addons that add vehicles like that (and YES I KNOW ABOUT SRB2 RACING KART WHO DO YOU TAKE ME FOR---)
- Addition: I've added only one full rotation this time, just for walking animation, which surprisingly takes me quite a lot of time to finish. And added one angled Jumping sprite.
- Polish: Other than that, I've been polishing some of the other sprites, particularly correcting the perspective on the Pontiac Car Mode, which looks much better now (I haven't modified side A3 and frontside A2 yet). And I've been adjusting the Standing sprites a little.
- Bugfix: Also, there was a bug that overrode the pflags whenever you transformed from the Alt mode while jumping. I'm glad that's fixed.
Suggestions to see Jazz perform any particular animations are welcome!
