The technology of the SRB2 community

So, I've had a bit of fun with this personally in the past, and decided I'd try and share it with the whole forum. The whole point of this would be the same reason we play games in the first place: To have fun.

So, if you'll notice, most modifications for the SRB2 forums are one of a few things:
Graphical modifications, to make the game look different.
Gameplay modifications, to make the game play different.
And, a just-for-fun classification, which I like to call Technological Modifications. This is what I'm focusing on here.

Most past Tech Mods have been simple stuff, cloaking and super monitors are the first things that come to mind. I've a bit of unreleased stuff that I wouldn't call bug-free enough to work. But for the most part, our tech mods have been pretty simple. To this I say: "We are in a very early era of technology around here"

So now, I challenge you all, to create more complex tech mods. Elaborate monitor designs, vehicles, the sky's the limit. The only rule is that you can't break Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, and you can't break the default levels. Otherwise, SOC/Script structures, state-change linedefs, whatever you feel you need. Just come up with random useless stuff for us to play with for 5 minutes.

I myself have a few ideas, if this gets far enough I might actually be motivated to work on them. So yeah, start nao if you so wish.

Mainly SOCs, I just tried to avoid that word because there's more to it than that. EXE mods are probably a bad idea, as that kills the whole point of using what we have to create things.

Essentially, just apply what we have in the ways of editing, to create stuff resembling technology. Things work a bit in reverse, but that's what makes it fun. (IE, it'll be easier to create a hovercar that can go over air than a boat that can only go over water)

Again, vehicles are a very good example, as are powerups. Any sort of interactive structure.

Skill at coding in C is something some people have, so hey...

You're not getting anything from me though, SRB2Live is too early in it's beta stage to release to the public :3

Though Veichles would be hard to create, and most things have already been created, though i might make....no wait that's been made, um....how about....no wait, i think that was made too, oh i know, a moniter that changes you into a ghost for a short time, no wait, flame made that, =P

Anyone made a free-flight soc similar to All Range mode in Starfox? If not, that's what I'll try to be doing.

And don't tell me I can't, because I'd like to find that out for myself.

I think the spike wall that Boinciel made is a great example of this.

Well an old idea I had before.. Superspiker:

Superspiker.png

Superspiker2.png

This thing was going to be disguised like a normal spike, it would pop up as the one with the black holes then spines would pop out, during all this it was going to change size and radius with each frame, plus the damage directions were going to change. So all in all it would have gone: Spike, get close to it, pop up, spikes pop out of the sides, it stays there until you move away from it then it would hide as a spike again. Also these sprites here are just ones I edited from Boin's spike thing, I had an older/kinda better one a long time ago but lost all my progress with the sprites. I gave up with the soc cause of the damage crap not working right.

hmm, with all these spikes, sonic has no holes in him. =P

but i might try this, just, most of the ideas have gone, making climb no glide wouldn't be possible without an exe (i think)

oh i know, make a sonic next gen (sonic the hedgehog) HUD, though it wouldn't be used much though in my opinion. Could you give me ideas, after all, were near to the srb2 10th anniversary, so there's been a long time to make soc's that havent been made.

Here's a cool idea IMO (also I can't SOC for crap, so I'm just throwing out ideas =D): Allow someone to grab onto Knuckles while gliding similar to Tails' ability. That would take the cake.

Just a stupid question, is taking stuff from other games acceptable? For example, taking the enemies from the MegaDrive Sonic games into SRB2, or maybe some other item.

Anyways, I think the two main issues are enemies and bosses. If you can make a mod with different enemies and custom bosses (that are not just edits from SRB2 bosses) you'll feel you're playing a completely new game, just because that isn't common. And isn't very hard to do if you know how to make new objects.

Alright!
I managed to create object based, horizontal floating platforms!!!

*silence*

Ok it might not sound that spectacular but it is something that has always been missing in SRB2 since now. The potential is enormous, trust me...
To give you an idea what I mean I'll give you a testwad with very simple moving platforms.

Oh, I had an idea for those. But for it to work right, you need invisible thigns to the sides of the platform to keep you from falling off, and even then, it's glitchy with big platforms.
