The SA1 question

Linlam

That's cool and all but u should watch Evangelion
The adventure games are the most polarizing game in the Sonic fandom in my opinion. There are plenty of reviews of these games with mixed opinions. In this thread I wanna talk specifically about SA1, I wanna give my opinion and read yours.I personally love this game, it's my favorite 3d Sonic. I recognize its (big) flaws, but I think the good in SA1 is way greater than the bad.

Talking about gameplay, I think SA1 nails it, the movement and level design are really good (specially for the first real 3d game in the franchise). Sonic's stages are perfect, the only nitpick I have is that I wish they were less linear. Tails' stages are a missed potential, but they're still good. I like Knuckles' stages, they are fun to move around and the radar works really well. I like playing as Amy, but she has some acceleration problems and there are only 3 stages for her. Big is a mistake, there's nothing more to say about it. I love Gamma, his stages and gameplay are also great, only wish he had more stages.

Talking about story, I also like it a lot, it's my favorite of all the games actually. It's not too simple but also not complex, it's perfect for a Sonic game. All the stories (except for Big) are quite charming and interesting (even Amy), and some of them are just great. I love Tails' arc in SA1 and Gamma's story is perfect in my opinion. I've heard people criticize his story because it doesn't have ties to the main plot, but I think that's the beauty of it, just a story about the one badnick that gained humanity.
The main plot is also incredible. It builds on the Echidnas from S3K and I just love it.

Now about the graphics. Yeah, the graphics aren't good, but I think there's a little thing to it, it's a 22 year old game after all. The graphics and animations are more nostalgic than awful.

In the end, I think SA1 is a pretty great game with missed potencial. If the game had been polished a little more before its release, It would have been in the same level of quality as the classics. I want to know your opinions too

I never understood why there are so many people complaining about the graphics of a 23 year old game, they would have to understand that it was the best there could be in its time.

As for my opinion, it is the best Sonic game ever created without counting the Fangames, of course, the Sonic team put a lot of effort into making it, the gameplay seems to me the best in a 3D Sonic game, the story is very good, the only bad. What I see is the duration of the stages of the other characters since I wanted to play a little more with them.

ironically the only sonic game that actually could compare to adventure was srb2 itself

Sonic Robo Blast 2 is a more legitimate 3D sequel to the Classic games than Adventure and the subsequent ones.

Generally this is true, though even back in the day when Adventure first came out, the character expressions in cutscenes still looked jank even by the standards of the time.

The biggest tragedy in my opinion to come from the Adventure series is the rather terrible translation the localization team did when translating the game to English. There's mods that convert the subtitles to more proper English translations, and the overall script ends up coming off as much better.

I’m actually confused

Yeah, because it conserves the classic formula and aesthetic. I'd love to see SEGA create an "official srb2", but I also think the Adventure games have their value (a lot of value). It's kinda sad to see so many Sonic fans just trying to get back to the classic formula when the Adventure (and boost) games also have potential to keep being developed.

Big is a mistake
All the stories (except for Big)
Actually I like big, his history is rescue his best friend, and he go everywhere to find him, I think is cute
And his gameplay is not that bad, the abilities where ok, if he has more acceleration and he didn't have to fish (instead of that his level canbe puzzles or like sonic and amy ones, but instead of reach the goal or the ballon he have to find froggy), so the level can be more enjoyed, it would be one of the best characters, his fishing road can be for short attacks, but also he can throw the fish hook for long dstance, so if you play good you can complete a level without taking damage

Apart of big I agree with you

Sorry if you don't understand, but I can't use english very well

I'm not a native speaker either, it's ok.

I can complete his levels pretty easily too, but it's boring. Big's levels get in the way of the story, they're not fun.

His story is pretty cute indeed, I also like Gamma's arc a lot.

Yeah, Big's levels are boring, that is the point of my criticism, his gameplay is ok, but can be better, big don't have to fish in his levels, he can do interesting things in a level disgn similar to sonic, amy or even tails level design, not put the same things of that, they can adapt the formula to do other things for example 2 buttons activated by stand on them but if you go out they will desactivate, so you go to the first one and use the fishing road to activate the other, and some things like that, it would be more fun, right?

Not really if we refer to the dreamcast at that time in terms of other consoles it is debatable but as for the Sonic Adventure that is due to the inexperience of Sonic Team with that type of technology

No, Crash Bandicoot 2, Metal Gear Solid and even Mario 64 had better cutscenes than Sonic Adventure.
