I don't know if it will help or not.. but you should try changing the your resolution from your current one to minimum one... I am not sure it if will help but you can try it.
I did it almost helped for that I have 10-20 fps in some places

I tried all resolution to play (besides the pixel lowest) it didnt help but the fact lags happens in some places lag in cyberspace none and that's a good fact I just think becouse the open world have alot of things for that we all have lag but not a youtubers lol

Hey hey, just tried the map!
I've managed to find 1-5, but 6 and 7 have me stumped. If anyone could give me a visual hint on where to go, I'd be super grateful!
(Also this mod is AMAZING!)

for 6 you will need a power character to get passed that wall (looks like the under side doesn't break) x sonic can get pass it tho, and as for 7 you will need a character with a light speed dash ability like adventure sonic

also i see that sometimes when you reset at 1-6 it takes you out of 2d mode

retro ruby what if I use REAL frontires sonic will it still be completeable?
 
I kinda wish that Software has better compatabillity with this mod because OpenGL isn't working on the version of 2.2.15 I have, that being bitten's android port.

Unfortunately, that would require cutting the maps' size in half (or in thirds even). And I'm honestly not sure this person wants to keep working on this mod, given the vague (and lowercased) details of recent updates.
