SRB2 Kart Bots? Oh my god! Player Bot Mod Version 1 (Beta)

I wonder if the mod will have a way to add more than 3 bots.
If it still ends up relying on splitscreen for adding bots, then likely no. You can use more than 3 bots in the current mod but with a bit of a complex setup (Its explained on my guide under "How to do 4+ bots/no Splitscreen Kart magic"). If the new mod does support adding bots WITHOUT having to use splitscreen/local players at all however, then I'd bet it will.

Edit: Okay, this is coming from someone that still didn't get used to the game yet, but they're a bit too skilled. It still works great though (aside from a couple of maps.)

Ok so after a moderately long search through the internet, I found the mod. After playing it for a bit I can say this, While the setup for the bots are still the same, the race bots now behave like players. They no longer recover from spin-out instantly and seem to be more spread out than before. Also, I've noticed that the bots take the shortcut in Green Hills at least thrice. More maps have also been given bot support (notably CTAP and Arcade Pak) which is always good to see. The battle bots however... have no changes whatsoever.

Actually, the bots in Battle mode now target you if they have an item or are in "Attack or Protect" mode.

First of all, bot setup is as simple as ever, using a new "addbot" command allowing up to 16 players. This means that you'll no longer need split screen, batch files, and multiple instances of Kart in order to play with more bots. Moving on to the bots themselves, the bot's AI feels much better than before (that or it's just because there's more of them). Although not as much as before, the bots still feel relatively constricted to their racing lines. this is most evident during the first few seconds (especially when there is more of them) of the race, as they tend to rub against each other a lot. The bots also have support for more tracks and the Team Sonic Racing mod. Honestly, the bots were extremely fun to play with and the mod feels very complete.

I did check that out, though it does bring some questions about the legality of the mod or even discussing it here since its an outside update from the MB (which is why I haven't updated my guide to cover that updated version as it doesn't reflect the one here which was posted before the dev's ban), but also because I saw it included some few custom trackpacks with bots. While I don't know what the other track pack creators would think about that, I feel flattered to see ArcadePak included there with PlayerBots...and at the same time 100% baffled over the fact that guy included an OLD version of ArcadePak in it (I kept adding support for PlayerBots even in the newer tracks included) and how while IDK if he modified that version to accomodate for "bots updates", I tried that with my latest stock version and they still worked the same. With all the item madness and stuck-to-railroads thing and everything.

...so yeah.

(Ok so now the developer of Playerbot is unbanned so I can write an essay about this. Could post it as a review, but whatever.)

All I got to say is: That changed my life. This is a favorite mod on the early days of the "New era" of the SRB2 forums; as it adds what SRB2Kart is missing during the last 2 years (during the time), AI Racers. I, myself, have been playing this for at least 3 years, and it works almost flawlessly. So here's what I've picked up over the last 3 years... (Including bugs.)

  • The reason Playerbot can't work with Custom Xitem Items is because the way the code it written. The thing checks for certain items so Bots can use these that said Items, but it's strictly for vanilla items without any source of compatibly with Xitem. Also Xitem actually disables Playerbot's Bots from doing any racing at all.
  • Uses P_Teleportmove but that's whatever, easily fixable.
  • They can use Gliders, but they can't move during the Gliding state, they can only freefall. It's because it's the way the code for Playerbot is written I guess.
  • Menu is ok, could have made like a "addbot" command or something.
  • There's this rare bug that happens when a bot throws the Eggman Box and gets fooled at the same time. Doesn't effect anything I guess but it's annoying. Here's a pic of that said bug:

(Don't ask why it looks like that; or the add-on's named "commando's eye" that's just my version of Playerbot)

Overall, if you didn't get banned, then this mod might become more popular than it was now.

Also I heard there's a update to Playerbot that's listed off-site. Is there a chance that the MB Playerbot can be updated to the off-site version? (I'm not begging by the way, I know that creators (and you) have a life.) If you ever make a update to this (MB) version of Playerbot, you need to remove any and all custom tracks (unless you have permission). I know I sound mean, but it's for your safety, OK? Hope the best of luck of something I guess if you're ever deciding on updating on this add-on.
(*when I said the word "You" I mean the creator of Playerbot)
