Sonic Superstars Is Not Finished (But It's Close)

BattleCrusher135

I know many things about old versions
I've been waiting to say this for 11 days: Sonic Superstars may not be finished. Evidence -

1 - In the files, beta themes can be found that use the Sonic 4 soundfont. A few final tracks use the Sonic 4 soundfont, though.
2 - Sky Temple only has 1 act and uses a boss that would probably be used in Act 2.
3 - It seems that many last-minute changes were made to the soundtrack, because music tracks posted before the game's release have some sort of difference(s) in them.
4 - Egg Fortress Act 2 is just Act 1 but flipped and with a different boss.

Also, people should stop spoiling Trip's face reveal, though I kind of expected a plot twist where Trip becomes good ever since I saw Trio of Trouble.

However, the game's hype was surprisingly worth it.

So, what I'm hearing is

The soundtrack isn't finished
And
Some zones are just one act (not actually evidence of an incomplete second act cut from the game, just evidence of zones without second acts. They are like twice as long as every other act anyway)
And
The second act of the final zone has the unique concept of replaying the first zone while time is reversed (while time reversing is, like, Eggman's whole thing in this game, I somehow doubt they would start a second act, scrap it, Completely change the second phase of the boss, and retroactively add sections in act one designed for reverse time)

sega needs to stop rushing releases out, both origins and superstars could have been easy slams if they had baked a little longer

and on that note, time to go post an update for the release i rushed out

I think they combined both acts of Sky Temple once they didn't finish the miniboss. Evidence of a 2nd act is in the level hub where there is a platform above the one you're on.

However, the game's hype was surprisingly worth it.
quick little elaboration, me and him haven't finished the game yet and have only completed the first 4 zones so it's more like "the game's hype was worth it so far."

huh, i think i saw a second platform but i'm not entirely sure i did. anyway yeah that's probably where the second act would be

2nd acts are never above the first ones. This would be much sooner evidence for a bonus act (a character specific or fruit act) than an act 2.

I actually agree with that, because remember that time were SEGA rushed Origins to be released in June 23, 2022? Which it's because that the devs didn't get to finish the touching of the game and SPECIFICITY the things that they were LITERALLY ANNOUCED IN THE TRAILER INCLUDING THE OTHER TRAILERS AND THE ADS TOO (expect for the launch trailer but I don't know how many to be exact). Yeah, it sucked. Which then they posted about it in twitter by the way, and it was so curious that, somehow they didn't get to finish it. Which that's how it was never finished, and then they had to fixed alot of bugs that were in the presentation of the game. And then we FINALLY got Origins Plus and... It was just amy and a bunch of stuff added including Game Gear games, and then the glitches were still present even though somehow some were actually fixed. Also in v2.0.1, somehow you can not even finish Tails in Sonic 1 at all. All because of gravity issues, and the crash in labyrinth zone 1. Which that's how the developement sucked alot back then in the middle of 2022 including 2023, all though it sucks that superstars is out 2 weeks ago by now because they could've TAKED TIME FOR ONCE so that way we would've get a clean sweep. Which would've made this way better, which I asked this already about origins in this reply. They didn't even do this in Froniters, so they should've done the exact same thing just like in frontiers.

Eh, I highly doubt that Sonic Superstars is ""unfinished"" (kinda dumb tbh, I would say rushed but that's maybe doubtful too)
like..

1. Having beta themes is not a example of a unfinished game that's common with development of video games to have beta/prototype tracks of final tracks literally other Sonic games have this and the final tracks are just a convivence (again, the tracks are not even that bad)
2. Ok???? I don't see how that's a example of a unfinished game
3. Yeah, it's called beta tracks, it's common with development of video games LMAO
4. it's called a unique gimmick

Overall, A another example of Sonic fans not understanding video game development (also sorry, I'm sorry if I sound pissed off on this, The Twitter Sonic community constantly spoiling me for even liking this franchise)

I will make myself clear and give the solution to the whole discussuion here (i didnt played Superstars yet,so dont spoil me with anything from the game):

Considering that Sonic Team got some actual budget from Sega, it was only a matter of time until they decided to screw things up with the deadline. I think its most promiment in Origins (including Plus) and Superstars, and for a simple, yet effective reason: the deadline.

When making games with high ambition, you must not make a deadline at all costs, otherwise you need to rush the whole game development. This is what Sonic Team did with the previously mentioned games (except Frontiers),and also with other games in the past. For example, think of that terrible year of 2006 when Sonic Team rushed Sonic 06 and that port of Sonic 1:
- For Sonic 06, it was rushed significantly for the 15th anniversary and the game development was crushed to the bone by a publisher who wanted to make as many Sonic games as possible for the maximum profit
(hence why Sonic & The Secret Rings exists in the first place)
- For Sonic The Hedgehog: Genesis, they have also rushed the development for the anniversary, making the game look, sound and play extremely sluggish. I'd rather be playing Sonic Blast out of anything than this.

This is just a habit that Sonic Team does every so often:
- They reveal the game
- Make people hyped
- Reveal that dam deadline
- Rush the game significantly
- Release the game that eventually got bad reviews and reception
It goes on and on to the point where fans will eventually quit the franchise because of them making the game rushed for that deadline.

Looking at Metroid (who doesnt get many games as much as Pokemon),i think they do a better job at doing the whole game development. Here is how they do their games:
- Reveal the game for a bit
- Develop it secretly
- Do a Reveal Trailer (WITH NO DEADLINE)
- Make people hyped
- Keep making the game for some years
- Release the game that eventually got great reviews and reception
This is why i became a Metroid fan again: they make games cooked just as much as needed and then they succeded in making a game that remains unforgetable. Litreally every game made (except the NES Metroid, Other M and Federation Force) is like this. Its a thing that Sonic Team shuld learn from them.

At the end of the day,i think the reason why Superstars is unfinished is because of rushed development and the deadline, which i think that half of the people who responded here might agree on.

i agree, the sonic 4 soundfont tracks in the final game aren't actually that bad surprisingly (besides Jun was probably allowed to have a few of his songs in the final) and its expected that games will have beta tracks down in the files somewhere

I have to do clarifications because everyone is slamming my opinions. I've made it to Sand Sanctuary, but Special Stage 6 is a hassle.

1 - What I mean is that they may have had no time to remake themes to not sound like Sonic 4.
2 - Sand Sanctuary is also like this. I see a pattern with 1-act zones, so I feel like I am wrong about that.
3 - Apparently, Egg Fortress Act 2's flipping is a unique gimmick. If the music is reversed, I'm in for the ride.
4 - Lagoon City is just a generic water level with lore that will never be solved. The Amy act has some tedious gameplay.
5 - Over time, the game gradually gets less fun.
6 - Sand Sanctuary has almost everything lifted from Sandopolis of Sonic 3.
7 - The reason Jun Senoue keeps using the Sonic 4 soundfont in classic games is because Sega wants his music to sound like the classic games, but he doesn't have a real Genesis soundfont so all he can use is the Sonic 4 soundfont.
8 - The emerald powers have no need in some places.

Also, Arzest developed this game, and they made BALAN WONDERWORLD, WHICH IS JUST A BIG MESS OF FURRIES AND EXTREMELY SLOW GAMEPLAY AND GENERIC VILLAIN CHARACTERS!

i know the last one looks like a specific mod character but the little pig looks like vomit

we are at egg fortress act 2 and no the music isn't reversed but it's rock, finally jun makes something good for a classic sonic game

4. it's called a "unique gimmick"
i know this is months late but here's my response:
so you believe that playing the EXACT SAME FREAKING LEVEL in reverse is some sort of cool gimmick?! i cannot figure out what crappy logic you and another person used to come to this conclusion, it's the same layout and everything just with the final boss in it and given act 1 is pretty hard how would doing it again be unique and neat?????

Yeah, duh
That was literally the main point of the level, it was designed like that for an reason like, just because the same level but in reverse, doesn't mean it can't provide an different experience as playing it regularly

well sure it provides a different experience but you basically do all the things you did in act 1 in reverse order. where's the fun in that?? gimmicks should be fun and creative not boring and bland

I mean, I personally ain't the biggest fun of sonic superstars in general, but I certainly wouldn't call designing a stage to be played front to back and back to front bland...

The fun part is tackling the same things in a different way
